Rip my man Leon Spinks. 1953-2021. Thank u for the footage and the great fighting spirit. I’m so sorry things went the way they did, you deserve so much better.
It was an impressive showing for Leon Spinks who had been pressing the fight from the first round, had a rough go at it in the second round and continued impressively to the end of the fight.
Anybody notice Mr. T in the ring at the end of the fight?
Yeah Mr T was Leon Spinks bodyguard so he was around him often
I loved Leon Spinks, but this was probably about his skill set. A step above the European Champs and a step below the contenders.

Evangelista went for broke when he had Spinks in trouble in the second round, and he didn't have much left after that.
There are very few in the sport of boxing who become champs .....Leon Spinks was one of them!
Yep and also a olympic champion.
Spinks was a talented fighter. He needed more time to develop. Had he had more time to develop he probably wins the cruiserweight title and holds onto it for a wile and maybe wins the HW title later in his career. He might have been a little more like Michael Moorer. A somewhat undersized HW who was still good enough to win the title a couple times.
Spinx was a talented young fighter who sold his soul to fight fixing and drugs

spinks had talent ....i liked him....was not handled well...and his up n down lifestyle hurt him ...if he could have used the jab more and tightend up his defence and stamina...
Leon wasn't as skilled as his brother Mike but was much tougher and had a decent chin plus he was a small heavyweight with punching power rip Pete knows
It almost looks like Evangelista tried to keep fighting with a broken jaw.

Coetzee fucking bit Spinks in the neck then suckerpunched him......he beat Dokes in the amateurs if he'd stayed sober and trained and fought more,I don't know that WBA belt allowed a bunch of guys to call themselves champ

Did Evangelista even train for this fight? He never had a great physique, but here he looks especially soft with very little musce tone.
I wanna know who Evangelista beat in his career to get all those wins...little old ladies? Owners of Italian restaurants? Children?
Evangelista wasn't a great fighter or anything, he was just a tough journeyman...but he has some pretty good wins,he has a win over rudi lubbers,(who ali also fought)after he lost to frazier.....evangilista has a win over lucien Rodriguez, who was the European heavyweight champion,who also fought holmes for the title...Evangelista has a win over bob stallings (who has a decision win over mid 1970's ernie shavers)Evangelista also has a win over Jody ballard,who fought young george foreman, (after his loss to ali)plus Jody Ballard also fought jimmy young,so some of evangelista wins were better than old ladies or children....
Everytime I saw Evangelista fight he was on his back counting lights!
I forgot to mention that evangelista also has a win over Reynaldo snipes.who almost took holmes's head off
