    well said by Bublik, people before they comment whatever they like need to put themselves in the player’s shoes, where emotional and physical state were already taxed as the match went on for 3 hours or so, and to put in context that the outburst happened in deciding points, especially considering what is at stake here: millions of money, etc which will put tremendous stress on the player

    No consideration for the fans. They were cheated. A point penalty would have been sufficient. Especially since it was a case of I said/you said. The director didn't know who was right. Personally I've been tired of officials who think they're bigger than the game.

      Maybe they were watching him for a while and decided the next time this kind of behavior will be punished? It’s not like it’s the first time he is intimidating someone like this. I feel bad for him but also he has himself to blame, no one else. Kids are watching him and taking example.

      I think it would get a bit ridiculous if the crowd has to wait for the umpire to listen - possibly with the help of interpreters - what was SAID. This should be done carefully after the game to determine whether fines are justified. The default was unfortunate, a harsh judgement call, but maybe it'll help Andrey control his temper a little bit better in the future.

      Yelling a ref a moron should never get you disqualified. It’s not classy or appropriate, but to be DQ hell no. Sports is about emotions- sometimes if it goes over then a point penalty is fine. In basketball players go at refs and get a Technical Foul. If it happens again then 2nd tech and DQ. Calling a ref a moron and yelling at that point of the game and to be DQ is embarasssing to any real competitive sport

    One of the best matches I have seen in a long time. 42 winners before the end in a 3 setter for Bublik. 13 unforced errors. Rublev similar. Amazing. Terrible ending. I remember bublik saying: I’m ok to continue. (Even at the risk of losing). The fans lost today. Respect is important sure. Point penalty even game penalty. Same result but less drastic. IMHO. The bigger problem here is umpires and line judges act like they are above the rules and they’re too subjective to be professional adjudicators. If you’re going to act on your ego and take players for a ride at least let them know early so they can prepare what to expect. Otherwise you’re being chickenshit. It’s too deliberate to believe it’s a simple mistake now. I empathized with Coco and her set-to with the chair umpire who was patronizing her throughout that entire dialogue and didn’t allow her the right to consult with the supervisor. I’ll empathize with Rublev here. Most people are concerned about Rublev’s outburst but the bigger problem is the umpires actions have been driven by their ego and nobody wants to talk about it. I would hate to see this be a trend. It’s time to keep the umpires honest.

      I dont like to see Rublev behaving like this, when he seems like such a good person, always, off-court. I think a point penalty would be fine. Not a DQ.
      Also agree about the Umpires, many feel the need to self-insert themselves. Rules need to be enforced, but many give problems due to perceived disrespect, real or otherwise,
      their job is to be impartial.

    No, one point, warning, is not enough. It doesnt matter what Rublev said . What matters is he behaved in a threatening, extremely aggressive way. The linesman was timid and clearly he was scared. Nobody knows if Rublev winds himself up to a point when he strikes, hits, fires a shot at someone . He is a very good player who has a problems containing his nerves and following the code of conduct.

    Rublev should have stopped and challenged the call if he was so sure the ball was out. ELC would've shown the ball was in and he wouldn't have have shouted at the linesman. Rublev is the architect of his own downfall.

    • @broncoguy4862
      @broncoguy4862 8 місяців тому +2

      His behavior warranted disciplinary action as outlined by the rules...code of conduct violation that progresses from warning, to loss of point, to loss of game, then default. The word of one linesman should not set the table for an immediate DQ and loss of earnings and points. It's outrageous and if Rublev was from a country other than Russia, he would have been warned and nothing more. Serena Williams actually threatened an official with violence, and she was sanctioned as is appropriate by the rules with code violations. Once again, the rules are enforced whimsically and inconsistently depending on the location and player, and that hurts the sport.

    This whole thing reminds me that pro tennis desperately needs to stop letting Europeans frame the discussion on "emotionality." I promise: this effete, bourgeois, therapeutic take on human psychology as articulated by Europeans (and many of their descendants) does not comport with the experiences of the rest of us. "Verbal abuse" is a debatable concept. Pretending otherwise is propaganda and (Western) cultural supremacy.
    Basically, Rublev did nothing wrong. I love his passion. He can come yell at me on a public court any day of the week. I'm a man and I live in a country with free speech codes (for now) and I'm not at all threatened by curse words. Lol
