I LOVE all of your recipes! I’m such a fan of Vietnamese food and I have to drive very far (approximately 4.5 hours each way) away in order to eat some! I do it at least once a year (I live in a place where it’s snowing for 6 months of the year and the driving conditions aren’t good) and I do a huge shopping haul of ingredients. I buy all the fish sauce, shrimp paste, lemongrass, noodles, and freeze chillies/Pandan leaves/whatever else that I can! Your recipes are absolutely delicious and easy to follow, clear and authentic and filled with flavour. I truly appreciate you sharing your delicious food and culture with the world on UA-cam so I can (try) to recreate the food I eat when I’m away! I can never make my food taste as good as the restaurant but as long as I’m using YOUR recipes, they come out absolutely delicious! Thank you for sharing your recipes and food and culture with the world, Helen! Thank you from Canada! ✌️🥢❤️
Which part of canada ?
You’re the only UA-camr I trust for Vietnamese soup recipes. I can’t wait to make this 😋
Yay! thank you for your trust. You definitely must try this recipe!!!

I second this.
My entire family is from Huế. I have never been to Việt Nam (I was born in USA) but this is one of my favorite dishes that my mom makes (my next favorite is mì quảng!). Now I can make it for her! Thank you for sharing your recipe :-)
Hope you enjoy 🥰

Helen, thank you so much for this recipe,
I'm so happy to see this recipe and very happy there's no blood in this recipe ❤ 😋
You are amazing Helen. So young but so talented.
Bun Bo Hue is my favorite period!! Thanks for sharing.
i made it today :) so yummy. i added more fish sauce & shrimp paste to my soup. sooo good 💯
made this for the first time today, came out better than the local restaurants! Thanks for another great recipe!
Hi was in Hue for 3 days in 2016 , Bun Bo Hue at small restaurant near hotel open at 6 am sold out by 9 am , never had it that good again . Miss Vietnam so much !
The beef noodle look so beautiful, and delicious. I like your choice of ingredients
Thanks so much!
Yay I can finally try to follow a video that actually looks like how my mum makes it, only problem is probably finding all the ingredients 🤣. I don't live at home anymore and it's really hard trying to get my mum to give me a recipe when she eyeballs everything lol.
Im Vietnamese but I haven't actually cooked Vietnamese food, relied on my mums cooking because she makes everything so perfectly. I needa practice but how to cook for one 🤣 the struggles lol.
Thank you for this recipe
We had this inHue’….they served it with side of wonderful Baguette bread. Wonderful.
You’ve made me wish to try this at home….or go back to Vietnam! (better!)
Hope you enjoy this recipe 🥰
*wow! the picture is amazing*
This looks so good!
I tried your first ever Bun bo hue recipe and loved it. But this one looks even more amazing and the colour so vibrant. Haven't made this in a long time and only tried making it twice! Will be making this new recipe version soon! Thank you
I am so glad to hear you explain your recipes!!
Thank you
Looks so yummy, I already tried your old recipe. Will try this one oneday as well. I miss the scenes where you taste the food.
Bun Bo Hue is one of my favorite bowls of noodles. I can eat this every day. But too much work to cook it myself. I reserve my privilege to go eat at a restaurant.
Hope you find your favourite restaurant that has the amazing Bun Bo 😂
You're the BEST Helen!
My friends ! It looks so delicious. Your cooking skills are amazing. Thank you for the good food. ❤️❤️😍

I love my moms bun bo hue and it's probably my favorite vietnamese noodle soup. I have never made it yet but I hope I will one day. My husband and I don't like pork hock(gio heo), is there another replacement or can I just leave it out? Thank you in advance. Bless you always for taking the time to make videos for everyone. Oh yummy i have not had this for a while it was very good as i remember
this looks amazing. Is it okay to freeze I wonder in portions with cooked meat and soup?
I'm not sure about that but you can try ^.^
Great recipe and very clear. Thank you!
Hope you enjoy
Ngon lắm
Muy rico
Oh snap funny to see this when Im making some tonight. I love this almost as much as pho.
WOE.. HELEN... This looks top notch indeed.. what can I use instead of the Shrimp Paste tho.. I grow my own lemon Grass and I think I have everything else... I have shrimp Bulion but I'm sure it's not the same at all...
You can use Korean fermented shrimp and use pestle to make into or anchovy paste. Its more salty than anchovy tho
@@twiiFM that is genious.!! Thank you.. I should have been smart enough to figgure that out... 😉👌👍👍👍
so excited!!
I’m going to try making this tomorrow. Thank you, this looks so good!
So how was your result? I would love to know more 😊
@@HelenRecipes it turned out great! I had family come over and everyone loved it! Thank you for this awesome recipe!
Hi Helen, could you make videos to go over regional variations of the same dishes? Thanks
I love all ur Vietnamese recipes! It’s all my go to recipes
Yay! Thank you!
It looks so delicious. Thanks for sharing.
Love the update!! I can just smell the fragrant paste through the screen haha.
Could this be used to make a vegan version also? Your Pho Chay recipe is single handedly the tastiest / authentic Pho I've had!! So if you ever feel like adapting this to a Chay version that would be super!!
Might be hard to find something that has the same type of flavor as the shrimp paste and fish sauce to replace them.
@@willowsprite It's probably not widely available as of yet, I'm here in Australia and some stores stock Vegan Fish Sauce and also Vegan Shrimp Paste! www.lavidavegan.com.au/products/red-lotus-vegan-shrimp-paste Hopefully it becomes more widespread!
She has chay version:

I’m going to see if I can order this.. I’ll have to make it soon’
I ordered and it was really bland, I’m going to try to make it at home 🙏
@@AngelekaL Bun Bo Hue taste way better at home. Vietnamese restaurants in the states make it really bland. We are from Chicago and every restaurant we went to was a disappointment.
@@ruthbridgeton5431 yes you’re so right!! Sorry about your experience!

This looks great!!
It looks amazing!
It was!
Fun Fact there is also a city in China name Hue and like the Vietnamese form Hue they also speak thier native tongue with an arabic accent, Chinese beef noodle soup origins track back to this city, I'm guessing there is some kind of muslim connection here.
Ngon quá chi ! ☺️
My favoriteeeeeeee
You forgot to mention the noodle for Bun Bo Hue is much thicker than the other noodle soups like Pho or Hu Tieu.
I’m not from Hue but I heard many people from Hue said that it’s a misunderstanding. Bun bo Hue noodles are just normal noodles :))
Helen, you have so many subscribers!!!! Awesome 😎
Thank you
Love your recipe! I was always too afraid to do this dish until now :D
Try it now, guy.

Helen, I don’t know if anyone has told you but the way you pronounce “city” is funny because it’s a slur that means ugly. It’s funny lol
I'll note it down and fix it. Thank you 😂😂😂
This is fantastic but one thing. I don't eat pork. Can I do it with just more beef instead of the pork? Should I tweek the spices accordingly? Or is this just not the right dish for someone like me to cook?
I know this is kinda late. Anyway, you can do it with just beef and you can also tweek the spices according to your taste.
Nice
I’m sick snd I need this
Oh yess!!!
Miss Helen, I would like to ask you the substitute for the noodles because we don't have that kind of noodles in my country. One more thing is the pork paste(is it ground pork?) tell me more coz I am interested in your recipe. I once lived in Ho Chi Minh City(10 years) but I didn't try to cook any Vietnam dish coz I was busy then teaching. Thank you
1/ Almost any kind of rice noodle would be an okay substitution. You can just use instant ramen noodle (remember to adjust the flavor since those ramen have a lot of salt even without the flavor package)
2/ You can make you own pork paste. Just put some ground pork (ice cold), fish sauce, salt and a tiny bit of sugar in a blender and blend them together. Then chill the mixture in the fridge so they become a little cold again. Put a small amount of crushed ice, oil and corn or potato starch in the mixture then blend one more time for about 3 minute.
The blending process make the pork become smooth like a paste, but you need to keep the meat cold the entire time to create that chewy texture (hence the chilling and crushed ice), if the meat is not cold enough the meat will be kinda separated and can not form a shape, just put it back in the fridge to chill and try again. Good luck
@@duynguyen216 thank you so much
