The latest flagship is mostly just ai, don't think that you're gonna miss anything big. Also most of the ai features will come to the s22 with oneUI 6.1.
I've had my s22 for a whole day before just now seeing your review, and couldn't agree more with what you had to say about it. Battery, very decent. Not amazing, but good. Camera, takes some great pictures. Better than my s10. UI, much more appealing than my s10. Device is sleek, comfortable, fast, reliable, and overall I'm pleased
@@maccasmgg123 after a few days of heavy use, it is a good phone. No real complaints. The battery is good for every day use, but when doing anything like gaming, you really can take lots out of the battery pretty quick. It feels comfortable in the hand. I'm not a fan of not having an SD card slot, or a headphone jack. Sad to see Samsung going the way of Apple.
@@hwiatslgeord2887 did you buy it? I bought one a few days ago and yes the phone is great, but the battery... it's really bothering me. I mostly surf the Web and use WhatsApp and UA-cam and the battery simply won't last thru an entire day. One other thing is the network signal. I've never had any issues at home but now with the S22 it is very low. Tried the sim card on two other phones at home and it was fine so it is definitely a phone issue.
@@GB-um9oc It's because you don't like it doesn't mean they share the same opinion with you. It is obvious that none of these guys cares about what you like over what they may actually need.
You are totally right. Now if I could enable an Spen to work with the S22 I would have the perfect mini Note I always wanted. I just need the Spen to right some notes here and there so I don't need a huge canvas for drawing.
Samsung did exactly what I wanted them to do, short of giving it the same cameras as the ultra. I prefer small phones because of all the adventures I go on. Hides way in my pocket nicely and takes great pictures. I'm excited to get my S22. Coming from an S10
I went from an S7 to this, huge upgrade! My S7 finally broke after 6 years. The S22 is roughly the same size as my S7, I don't want to go any bigger than this!
Note fan here. S22 ultra is great successor of note philosophy in terms of design as well. No rounded corners of the display make it resemble piece of paper shape which add to note taking experience bu after getting used to it using diffrent apss with corners trimed off feels weird. Althouth j prefer slimmer side metal frame of Note 10 plus rest of s22 ultra makes me really like design of this phone.
@@GB-um9oc I personally really like the S22 ultra's design. It's super clean and just nice overall, but still went with the S22 plus because I like that design as well and prefer a bit of a lighter and smaller phone
This is exactly how I feel about my S20 FE 5G. Cheap? Yes. Is the camera good? Yep. Battery life? Pretty good. Proportions? Good. Screen? No complaints. It doesn't blow me away but I don't want/need it to. I love this phone because it fills everything I need in a phone, without costing me over $400. I really miss the S Pen though so I might pick up the S22 ultra when the S23 comes out.
yeah, honestly, I like the s22 and s22+ so much more than the s22 ultra, but I'm going to get the ultra only because of the s-pen and 10x which I actually would use a lot. It's a shame though, I really liked the s22+ display, flat and all even 😪
Yeah had to copy iPhone's premium design to be the best design in android lol, but what about other hardware and software of samsung tho can't even beat older iphones lol especially with that exynos🤣
damn, though. My s8 looks like it is so much thinner, having curved glass on the back at least makes it look so much better and is much more comfortable
@Diogo probably true tbh, but i don't think it's a good thing. there's a thing called ergonomics. I wonder where removing headphone jacks and not including chargers in the box came from
I bought the S22 last week. I ordered it on Tuesday night, after the official presentation, and it arrived less than 2 days later, on Thursday morning, even though on the website it said it would arrive in March. The size is good, the battery lasts well (more than 24 hours for normal use), the supercharger works fast (this is my preferred way of charging it as the wireless takes considerably longer), it doesn't heat up (only on day 1 while I was setting it up). The size is the right one for me as I'm a woman and anything bigger looks like the size of my head.
is this a snapdragon version? just to clarify this is the regular s22 right? I'm concerned about battery life but I don't really do gaming on phone, what was ur normal use routine like?
I went with the Ultra since the cameras and the proper Note features are really important to me, but otherwise the S22+ looks sweeeeet. If it had the camera of the Ultra I'd go for it immediately.
Yeah just wanna be iphone woah what if iphone copies something from Android which they never do but what if this comments would've been different haha samsung fanboys

I've never thought about the direction of the vibration motor inside phones until I watched this review. Thanks for unlocking that in my brain, Marques 😊
First things first, great review as usual. The Iphone of android is a very bold title and it is very interesting to see Samsung taking less risks to bring a more "main stream" phone to the market. No new tech or crazy functions, just what they know they can do well in a good looking phone. It is very sad to still see people "defending" Apple and Android in the comment section as if they would get paid to do it. As long as all brands develop good phones and offer competitive price's, all consumer's win. Samsung certainly pushes Apple out of their conforte zone as much as Apple does it to Samsung. For us, it is a clear win-win 👌🏻
You're probably the smartest person I've ever encountered in a tech review comment section. Thank you for being so civilized and and well-mannered when talking about phones instead of shitting on them like other people. I salute you sir.
Samsung innovates in foldable category. Apple, well might bring out an "Apple-esque" foldable iPhone few years down the line, but so far, we're not seeing any innovation from Apple these days. I'm not hating on Apple, but I miss the Steve Jobs days, where iPhone earned its reputation for its industry-defining ideas and features.
That's why I prefer watching this channel's reviews over other channels. I appreciate how Marques can articulate and bring such a interesting discussion about tech over boring, but really good phones.

Great review! Just upgraded from S10 to S22 only because of delayed patches on S10 and nearing EOS. On the vibration issue, I guess Samsung took a note of feedback and provided a vibration sound setting to alleviate the issue out of pocket at-least. Couldn't agree more to all things mentioned about Samsung maturing from bloatware over the years and now leading the way in Android features. I myself was OnePlus fan before moving to S10 which was a pleasant surprise and S22 has bettered it in terms of some cool nifty features in software like "video call effects". Having "Switch"-ed over my data from old phone, I will soon be missing the expandable storage I guess. Limiting battery charge to 85% is another cool feature to prolong battery life which makes sense as Samsung promised 4 years of software support. Thanks again for the great video helped me and many others make an informed decision.
@@jerome8147 well not unless you get a good deal. I traded in my s10 for $106 and bought s22 at $300 + tax with a condition to switch to Google fi for 4 months. So in my case it was worth the upgrade as soon I wouldn't be able to trade in my s10 anymore and given the 4 yr support form samsung, I see s22 as a worthy upgrade at that price. Won't recommend paying more than $300 though as s10 is still a solid phone if end of support doesn't bother you as much. For me software support is needed for my work email on phone so was a compulsion to upgrade. Chose s22 because of form factor else s22+ is a better deal @ $100 more.
@@adamez6885 What are you talking about? My friend got his S22 Ultra delivered yesterday. Also, many stores such as Best Buy, T-Mobile, etc usually set up demo models of the new phones for people to try out.
Always like the honest reviews on this channel. I'm going S22 for the more compact size and overall balance and quality. One thing I would like to see is some sort of rating for repairability. Screen and battery should replaceable to stop tech landfill where possible.
It's great to hear mkbhd mention it and it's great that you are talking about this as well. If we want more sustainable phones we have to be vocal about wanting them.

Samsung is doing pretty great stuff in their Good Lock app. Some features were straight up added to One UI, some are just good usability and customization enhancements. I have stopped using NovaLauncher for the first time in years and am just using vanilla Samsung quite happily.
Omg so cool to hear someone else bring that up! I was using nova launcher on different android phones for years 'cause I usually didn't like other manufacturers's UI (emui, touchwizz and so on..) but with samsung's One UI and Good Lock app(which isn't available in every country btw, but you can install FineLock from play store and it's really the same.) I'm actually satisfied. Samsung really came a long way from their early software days. :)
I upgraded from a 9+ to a 20FE and I kinda miss the 9+ it was such a fantastic device, didn't love the curved screen and the battery was toast after 3 years but it was so reliable.
@@kujtimfetahu1507 pixel 6 pro user here. Avid pixel fan here. This phone is riddled with bugs. It's because of Tensor I'm sure but Google has a lot to figure out with this phone. My guess is the next series will work a lot of those kinks out.
I have had my s22 for nearly a year now,and have to say it's a great little phone. Great performance, love the design and I get all day battery.only thing I don't do is gaming and I get anywhere between 5-7 hours sot with a full days use(and a bit more). I keep it on 120hz and adaptive brightness. I do tweak some things like: *Dark mode *Put apps in deep sleep *Turn off nearby/printer scanning *Use 4g instead of 5g Also I always perform partition cache wipe and galaxy apps booster after every software update.
Im so glad we're back to flat screens, Ive hated the edge curves ever since the s7. And I feel like one of the things that have cemented Samsung's default android phone status lately is that there aren't as many flagship options left anymore
Yes, I received my green S22+ yesterday and I already put on a tempered glass screen that actually fits correctly. So glad they finally did away with the curved screen.
I think its good they kept it on the biggest models. One of the biggest complaints for the big new iphones is that the square edges are really uncomfortable to use. So why not put some curved edges on the big ones so they are easy to use, but while you are at it, just extend the screen into those edges. If the palm rejection is good, why not?
The S22 with it's smaller size, very slim and symmetrical bezels, contour cut camera bump design, and One UI 4 that fits the device's hardware really well looks so good to be. In my opinion it's the best looking phone right now personally, better than S22 Ultra even though it also is really nice.
Except for the size which is subjective, the S22 and S22 plus have the same design and for me I prefer the S22 plus as the best size between the two. For the Ultra, I don't like it
Except for the navbar etc. which is still never transparent and looks horrible on this hardware. I don't get how Google (or Samsung) still can't get stuff like this right 🤦🏻♂️
I'm really looking forward to this to replace my slightly aging S9+ my biggest issue with the S9+ is the curved edges cause the screen protectors always keep forming wrinkles after like 4 days. Really hyped to get this!
I like how all of us are replacing our S9+'s xD I love it. Mine doesn't charge unless it's wireless and the battery is starting to suffer. Can't wait to have mine arrive.
Seriously, I switched from the note 20 ultra to the z flip 3 to the s22 and I'm glad I did. Don't get me wrong, the flip 3 is a BEAUTIFUL phone and far stronger than many rumors would have you believe. Mine was still in pristine condition when I traded it in. Anyway, I digress. The s22 is a breath of fresh air and sigh of relief in phone form. It's so awesome to not have to "baby" a phone anymore due to it having multiple "weak" and vulnerable spots. Its sooooo wonderful to not have to deal with a curved screen. I'm grateful for a flat screen because I haven't had one since I grabbed the note 9 years ago. The s22 is everything a person needs and a tiny bit more in a cute and compact form. I'm definitely happy!
The smaller S22 is the first phone I'm _potentially_ interested in upgrading to from my S10e. I can't get with the larger screen sizes, and it's good to hear the battery life is still decently well on the S22 (which has a 3700mAh compared to the S10e's 3100mAh, but obviously with the new gen processor and 120Hz refresh rate to make up for that difference). And four years of updates? Hot damn. It's just the lack of a headphone jack that still puts me off... I'd have to get a 3.5mm->USB-C connector if I pick up the S22. But it's definitely on my radar this year.
I was on Note 9 and wanted to upgrade but hesitant because of this as well. I thought I couldn't love without the headphone jack, until I got the Galaxy Buds+ too, really convenient.
Samsung S22 looks so good! I really like the compact form factor and it was one of the biggest reasons for switching to a 13 mini earlier this year. Before that, I was using the Pixel 4a which was also very compact. Hope this trend of making compact phones continues! 😊 And as always, great review Marques!

the change in the vibration motor also provides a much more precise feel when it comes to haptic feedback when typing. iPhones don't really use it unless you use third party keyboards, but it always felt better to type on. Glad Samsung brought a similar feel to their phones. If you don't use haptic feedback then its a moot point

I appreciate the vibration comparison! I already have a hard time sensing vibrations in phones so I'll be watching out for that. I've ordered the S22 as my upgrade from a S7!! No typo, this lil unit of a phone has lasted me this long, and I bought a refurbished one originally. It's still technically working, I just wanted a better camera and more space. It also survived an overnight dunk in the hot tub. Due to how impressed I've been with my S7, and the Galaxies in general, that was why I got it instead of the Pixel. I felt like the S22 was the best of all my preference factors: Galaxy, reasonably priced, not too big (tiny hands), decent camera for my uses, space upgrade. I'm not a power user by any means so the battery was not a concern of mine.

I've been on Pixel since the beginning. Sadly, recently, my Pixel 5 screen got smashed. I bought the Pixel 6, but even in the non-pro version the size is just too big. The Pixel 5 was perfect for me. This phone is nice, not gonna lie, Samsung did great on this. They've kept the pieces from last year and made some things better so it's not huge upgrade, but it's a solid one 👏
One thing about Samsung that you have to give credit for is they actually listen to their fan base . They have streamline One UI making Google messages as default app is great . What makes Samsung a great phone are all the features and options. I was one to complain about the duplicate apps like two photo galleries, two app stores and so on but actually I see it as a choice now which really doesn't get in the way of Android. With Samsung you really have to take the time and discover everything that Samsung offers which is way more than most phones and that's the beauty of owning a Samsung . Also by far the best smartwatch companion of any Android device the Galaxy Watch .
I agree. Especially with the Ultra line-up. I have the S21 Ultra and I'm still learning all the options and software available. Add the S pen and it's mind blowing how much you can do.
They do not listen to their fanbase in the exynos countries. If they did they would just kill exynos and give us the same phone everyone else gets that has the much better chip.

I've been using s22 for 6 months now. I just have three things to say 1) Worst battery life ( like under 5hrs) 2) Phone heats up, especially out doors in a sunny day you can't even hold it 3) Worst processor efficiency (gets really hot while high load )
Tbf though, nowadays bezels are so small and everyone seems to measure the screen diagonal as if the corners aren't curved, so phones now that are 6" are much smaller than 6" phones like six years ago
Back then those 4 inch displays were 16:9, as compared to 20:9 today, which is entirely different. 16:9 typically looks larger, even though it's smaller diagonally, due to the extra width.
I'm glad it got smaller. I love the S10, and am now on my 3rd. My main reason for not upgrading was that I liked the smaller size and didn't like how they kept expanding them. This is the perfect size for me, and if they go back to this size, I'll eventually upgrade
Just wanted to thank you for providing the insight you provide. I was in the market for a new phone, and watching this review among 20 other reviews from other creators made me decide on the S22. I think he lionizes it. I think it's a piece of crap. The battery is terrible. The processor is too power-hungry while also being inadequate. It lags, apps crash regularly, and I find myself having to restart the phone every few days. I've had this phone less than four months, and the battery life is about the same as the S9+ I had for over three years. It is inferior to my old phone in every conceivable way, except that the processor is better on paper(but not in practice), and the camera is definitely better. I had to trade in my treasured S9 for this hunk of crap, expecting I would have a superior phone, and instead I find it has stripped features and cheap, unreliable components. The only good thing is the camera, and I don't take a lot of pictures.
@1230mkelly still on the Unlimited Plus plan. Love Fi but the battery on this phone is terrible. No other real complaints besides that. PHENOMENAL phone but the battery is bad enough for me to try to upgrade to an S23+ asap.

@@jerome8147 well not unless you get a good deal. I traded in my s10 for $106 and bought s22 at $300 + tax with a condition to switch to Google fi for 4 months. Same here i hate the curved screen
The Ultra has a curved screen
The S22 with it's smaller size, very slim and symmetrical bezels, contour cut camera bump design, and One UI 4 that fits the device's hardware really well looks so good to be. In my opinion it's the best looking phone right now personally, better than S22 Ultra even though it also is really nice.

You can get the S22 for 399 on Google Fi
You can get so many good USB C earphones. You can probably get Samsung's own one for around $40 and it's worth it.
I was also wary of the lost headphone jack but music now actually sounds better than before because the usb-c port is able to put out more power
I was on Note 9 and wanted to upgrade but hesitant because of this as well. I thought I couldn't love without the headphone jack, until I got the Galaxy Buds+ too, really convenient.
Right there with you. I currently have the s10e too, and I'm very interested in the s22 👍
How was the experience of switching from 4a to 13 mini? I am also on 4a currently and thinking of switching to 13. Thanks!
@@RohanChouguleTechEd - Hey Rohan! The initial switch from Android to iOS is painstaking as you have to reinstall so many apps, log in again etc etc but post that initial hiccup, you’ll love the 13 mini. Not that there was anything wrong with 4a but for me since I had iPad and AirPods, switching to 13 mini has been a good experience! Go for it, you won’t regret it 😊
@@siddharthmenon8715 thanks for the response. I appreciate it.
How is the multi-tasking performance? Apparently my pixel 4a kinda seems to lag and drain battery alot if i am outside trying to book cabs using ola n Uber, while replying to someone on WhatsApp. So that overall doesn't seem like a lot of multi-tasking. But how has your experience been around this aspect? I am not into gaming. And camera, i am sure, is good in both of them. Thanks again!
@@RohanChouguleTechEd - Multi-tasking on the 13 mini is a breeze. No problems faced so far. Again, I’m not a power user so haven’t really pushed it but I’ve had no problems with day-to-day multitasking. And the battery performance is also good. Pixel 4a also never gave me many problems although post Android 13, the performance was erratic. My dad is still using it without any issues so far. 😊 Camera, I still like the one on Pixel though 13 mini is also very good. Just a matter of preference, I guess!
Yeah we need more compact phones on the market. Definitely the best value for money out of the trio. I have tiny hands and find big phones are cumbersome and heavy not to mention that they won't fit in my pocket. Boy am I glad to see you Samsung making a compact phone again

the change in the vibration motor also provides a much more precise feel when it comes to haptic feedback when typing. iPhones don't really use it unless you use third party keyboards, but it always felt better to type on. Glad Samsung brought a similar feel to their phones. If you don't use haptic feedback then its a moot point

I'm the same way. The S21 ultra is amazing but the jump from 21 to 22 is not enough to jump ship. The stylus integration is nice, but not enough for the price point.
@@Mindcrackings I got the note20 ultra and was ready to say goodbye to Samsung due to the lack of a stylus. I use my phone for art stuff and some graphic design too .
Add the S pen and it's mind blowing how much you can do.
they also made an multicoii wireless charger wich ive seen none talk about, basically waht appl couldn't do with airpower
They do not listen to their fanbase in the exynos countries. If they did they would just kill exynos and give us the same phone everyone else gets that has the much better chip.

As an iPhone user, I’m glad Android has an “iPhone of Android”. There SHOULD be equivalent alternatives to iPhones, because that pushes both companies to continue to be good, and to continue getting better. Better technology and better quality is better for all of us.

I just have three things to say
1) Worst battery life ( like under 5hrs)
2) Phone heats up, especially out doors in a sunny day you can't even hold it
3) Worst processor efficiency (gets really hot while high load )
Wow I remember 4” on a phone being considered big and the galaxy note 1 being considered massive and now that screen size is below the norm 😂
I'd much rather we compare screen size in cm², actual usable screen real estate

What plan did you get?
