@@Nek-oski The game has no conflict between characters. In DAO you could kill some companions or make them leave your party out of frustration. DA2 had a friend/rivalry system, same for DAI. This game does not feel like a BW game.
The comment of "Would you hook up with a 6" isn't fair. As it's a 6 for $70 when there's a dozen 8-10's right next to her and cost as much if not less.
I want to be mean in this game, but I can't. In BG3, after completing the game twice, I did a bad playthrough where I tried to be as mean as possible, but still chose to be nice on a few occasions because the alternative seemed too evil to me. I can't do anything of sorts in DA=/
Agreed, in these kind of games the main hook is the story, and the reward for clearing encounters is to get to next story beat, if the story is bad then there's no incentive to engage with the combat, doubly so if the party members are insufferable pricks. Can't believe the studio that put out Mass Effect 2 also shipped this garbage.
Yeah you would think these companies would hire good writers that write a good story, and then change a few things to fit their narrative. But its like they just have the people who make sure stories are inclusive to write the entire story.
And in a stroke of genius, the only interactions they allow you to have with the game's narrative is: 1. You are right 2. That's so true 3. Wow, you are so brave 4. I have your back, sister
More people need to come out and say woke = bad game. To many people say it’s bad but not because it’s woke but for all these other reasons. For me being woke is the only reason I need to not buy. In my opinion the wokeness is the source of all the other issues in a game.

The difference between a movie that’s just fine and a game that’s just fine is a game cost more than a movie ticket and it takes more of my time than a movie. So a fine game isn’t in my interest unless it’s on sale and I got nothing else to do.
Most streamed would just say that, or to at least try it, of course it's easy for them to say that when it's their job to make content or they get the game for free
Yeah.. The issues with guys like Asmon and even the guy in the video is that they are basically playing for "free". This is their job. This is not actually 60 dollars for them. They make much more than that on video profits. "Its not the worst game" translates to "skip" for most of us.

@@WereCatStudio Gameplay is just an artistic choice to tell a story. After all, every game tries to tell a story in the end. An RPG game should be criticized for its storytelling before the gameplay. Every RPG game needs to fulfill a threshold for storytelling before cherry-picking other things.

@@mustafaozturk2542 you technically don't need a story to play a role, that's why anything with build variety falls into rpg since you can play the role of a tank or healer or whatever from a pure gameplay perspective, and in order to give weight to such roles, the gameplay needs to shine etrian odyssey has no story whatsoever and it's still one of my favorite rpgs
The thing that angers me the most about the game is that when you select a dialogue option, YOU DO NOT SAY WHAT THE OPTION SAID. Rook either changes the wording to be different or just says something seemingly totally out of left field. It's maddening.
Dorian from Dragon Age inquisition had to my memory a far more interesting and well done expression of how him being gay was an issue to his family wanting him to procreate to keep refining the magical power he has into another generation. What I like about him is that he doesn't open up about this until your good friends with him and he doesn't outright bluntly say he is gay. He isn't written like his sexual orientation is his whole identity nor his personality. Its a part of him that gives depth to his character on how that conflict is implemented.
This is quite true. It makes you understand his issue as a friend and help him out. This is what I see as positive inclusion. It makes other people understand these issues. Instead, they decided to include lectures for players as if they are better than everyone.
The best comment I have seen on videos about it was along the lines of "If you are a reviewer this could be a10, if you are a casual this is about a 7, if you're a gamer that doesn't really play the other DA games this is a 5 or 6 and if you are a Dragon Age fan this is maybe a 2" and as a DA fan this makes a ton of sense.
Pretty much you have game reviewers and streamers who bought it the rest probably are or were Dragon Age fans. As the combat is boring to watch the streamer has to talk over it. All the game reviews either have glowing reviews of it or basically say the story sucks and different takes on the game play due to their personal takes in how the mix of God of War with Mass Effect is. They pushed away their fans with taking out the before story and making their fans know that they did. The game itself if a stand alone game would most likely flop. Now that it has to make back millions of USD to just pay for itself it is a failure.
16:40 didn't go hard enough. you need to additionally get a cutscene presenting the fish vendor at all angles once you're 30 feet away from it, which ends with a slow zoom out to your location. Then you click through dialogue of your allies pointing and yelling "Hey we found it! The Fish Vendor!" before running to the vendor, which you additionally have to watch until they reach it, turn to you and begin a beckoning animation on loop. The bow on top is you are then locked into the 50 foot radius around the vendor by an invisible wall which prompts your allies to yell again until you interact with the vendor.

It has all of that. But, after playing through the entire story what was it that bothered you the most? Which decision did you want to make that you couldn't, specifically, after playing the game as you clearly have?
I feel like that's why Origins is such a cult-classic, the game sets in stone that the world is fucked and sometimes you gotta do fucked up stuff to save it, even if the people of that world are selfish and couldn't care less. That was the whole point. Yet Veilguard goes on and on about personal issues during a world ending calamity. Man... I really wanna see what Veilguard characters would say to Sten 🤣 (I feel like Sten would just straight up decapitate like 5 of them right off the bat)
Sten gets pissed when you do anything that isn't directly dealing with the darkspawn, If a whole village is about to butchered by undead and you say you'll help he'll call it a waste of time. Can you imagine his reaction at that dining table scene where the DA:V characters all talk about needing to solve their personal issues first instead of fighting gods?

My favorite tv shows are the older Star Trek shows. I consider myself a progressive person. I am genuinely dismayed by this trend in "modern writing." Star Trek ( which is I think a really great example for this kind of thing ) didn’t just pay lip service to hot-button topics; it dived deep, presenting multifaceted issues that encouraged viewers to see things from multiple perspectives. Rarely did it present a simple "right answer." Characters often wrestled with their choices, questioned their own ethics, and faced the unknown consequences of their actions, They sometimes made the right choice, they sometimes made the wrong choice, and often times they didn't even know if they ended up helping or damaging a situation by implicating themselves. This exploration of moral ambiguity wasn’t just storytelling, it was a model of progress. It showed that growth, both for individuals and societies, comes from questioning biases, grappling with complex issues, and seeking understanding beyond easy answers. It's not like they got everything right and in retrospect many aspects of those shows have aged poorly, but they're still FAR more relevant and thought provoking today when compared to all this "new stuff" that supposedly tries to explore some of the same topics. In my opinion at least, both discourse around these topics in general and writing for "modern audiences" more specifically have completely regressed. There's no discussion anymore, there's only promotion and mostly from people who are really really bad at marketing.
@@MrPutin-e7v Star Trek, Dune, and countless classics are politically motivated, yet remain impactful and beloved. The issue with many modern projects isn’t their social themes-it’s that today’s writers often lack the depth and respect for their audience that made earlier works so compelling. Instead of approaching complex ideas thoughtfully, they tend to come across as ideologues who assume audiences need lecturing rather than inspiration, leading to narratives that feel shallow and condescending.
It does feel like that with the way some characters speak to you when you solve a puzzle or do whatever nonsense in the game, it's so annoying. It's like the game is trying to maintain a perpetual safe space so the player always feels comfortable and cheered up, unless it's time for a lenghty lecture about misgendering others.

Playing Inquisition really helps with liking the characters. Solis, Verick, Morrigan, all of them are so much more flushed out in the prior game. "also the design is less Raid Shadow Legends"
You don't talk about AIDS in a fantasy game to raise awareness to real world problems. Good writing is making it some kind of magic plague and touch the subject in a subtle way, not saying out loud "use condoms" in a CRPG about high fantasy.
I agree with you, but its been happening for years in video games. People pushing philosophies and morality in games, movies, etc. If you learn certain code words you can basically figure out the agenda of any game/media within 40% of its content.
Writers need to keep the immersion or as they call it, the suspension of disbelief. An immersive roleplaying game set in a fantasy medieval world can definitely tackle social issues, even ones that are relevant today but they HAVE to stay immersive. Here are some ideas I could think of quickly: you could tackle gender roles by having the player empathize with a witch that is ostracized from the village you're protecting. You could tackle body dysmorphia by featuring a character like a druid or other morpher that struggles with identity issues from changing their body too much. You could easily deal with class issues since these were ripe in medieval times. Hell, you could even make an issue of male desires if its done well enough. Everyone appreciates social commentary when its tasteful and done well. I think the new movie The Substance did that well. Other examples of media set in a different time than our own, teaching us valuable philosophy, are shows like Psycho-Pass and Vinland Saga. The problem with media that is done like this is the fact that it feels like there was some social issue that the writers wanted to convey and the rest of the story is just pretext...
The writers are so allergic to metaphor and allegory that they couldn't bare to not use the exact same modern terms for this crap. Like any level of abstraction and they were terrified people wouldn't get it
Because they aren't actual writers. They don't have anything to say nor growth-building life experiences that have tempered them into spiritually strong individuals. Overgrown teens still stuck in college.

I noticed the same thing. Nobody wants to acknowledge the fact that "Stellar Blade" conclusively proved that male AND female gamers want sexy, attractive characters. Even Nerdrotic and the gang rarely mention "Stellar Blade" whenever they're discussing homely characters like Kay Vess from "Star Wars Outlaws." I don't understand the reticence.
I havent watched him in a while but i can tell you that some of the internet circles Cohh exists in probly would not appreciate him mentioning wokeness in a negative light.
I haven't yet understood the point of leveling up a hero. Well, that is, in the Inquisition you take a lvl 1 mage and put it next to a lvl 30 mage and see the difference, far beyond “just higher stats” - their gameplay is very different. In Veilguard... I sometimes forgot that I had skill points - 3-4 in my stash, because they just don't do anything! "Oh, I have +15% penetration... Oh, + 20% damage to armor/barrier... Oh, +10% damage with light attacks to HP... OOO! New skill! Cool! Oh, it damages like 3 attacks... Clear. And at the same time, it costs so much mana that I can only use it once every 30 sec... So I’ll use it once every 48 sec, according to my partner’s cooldown, like a detonator - so at least you can see the damage.” The whole combat reveals itself in the first hour, then it’s just an increase in numbers... And the fact that some battles turn into running circles around the arena from the boss (because he’s an asshole targeting you and he doesn’t care about immortal allies and aggro - because he’s the boss) while waiting for skill cooldowns is such a disgrace. And nothing stops you from running away - no stamina, immortal companions, endless healing, resources too... Such nonsense.
Skill issue, if you think immortal companions is a bad design then my god never make a critic on design choices in games again. If companions could die it would be near unplayable.
@@axyramariel7557 Tell us about this game sharing those games combat? Especially BG3 which is so far apart, Are you blind or actively being ignorant, for a A (which stands for action) RPG like this game if the companions went down it would create several design issues that would harm the rest of the systems. This game is more action player focused like a GOW and the combat isn’t about a party making combat strategies but YOU and your support companions. Your companions aren’t built around themselves but you, the abilities they posses even support abilities are reserved for you to build around. Just look at the combat, especially bosses, there is little to no time within combat to help a down companion. It’s way too fast paced for that, it would ruin the whole flow of the combat. Inquisition while very different from BG3 did have companions that would down but all the classes in that game were pretty poorly balanced that they were pretty much immortal anyway unless you had no clue what you were doing. Ive played that game several times even on nightmare and only unless you have trials or are above hard do they really die. Automatic shielding and magic bubbles every 10 seconds + revive, your inquisitor even more immortal that combat becomes dull mostly on warrior unless you unbind armor skills/block …. + don’t tell me it wasn’t tedious chore picking up teammates mid combat with the clunky movement. Also your point on running circles doesn’t make sense when there are plenty CC abilities and taunts you can set up, even mechanics within attack and Heavy attack chains that give openings. Are you just auto attacking and running away?
@@Bro-dot- Heavy attacks, yeah - you just forgot to clarify that while you are performing them, you get hit in the head by other mobs, and even if your attack is not knocked down (there is 1 legendary item for this) - you lose a lot of HP, at least on the penultimate difficulty So. And about the CC for bosses - tell me more, otherwise my bosses didn’t care about aggro/freezing, etc. They don’t feel anything less than a combo at all.
One of the problems is that subtext and analogy is dead in modern writing. You have a fantasy setting, so why can't you make a story about say a character who was born with magic talent but who hates being a mage? it's a trait they were born with, but not a trait they enjoy about themselves. They would prefer to be a warrior instead, swinging swords around etc. This outline would hit the player way more than actually using the word "Trans" and "non-binary" in a medieval fantasy game.

@@yotuel9064 Nah, Matty was wrong on this one, as are most people. In Nightmare currently (I went custom, kept Nightmare settings, but turned down vulnerability of enemies) unless your Build is shit or you are spending 0 resources actually upgrading your Gear and Workshop (which you almost do passively if you do even surface level exploring), Nightmare mobs die pretty quickly, to the point where it'd be like having cheatcodes on in normal. The only exception is Mage, Mage is slow af to get going. But on Rogue, going Bleed/Necrosis Status build, shit is dying left and right, combat doesn't usually last more than a minute if a boss is involved. The game won't have any legacy like the previous DAs. However good its gameplay is it's still an RPG. This isn't Devil May Cry. People are here for the story and if the writing sucks that's a failure. Cohh is trying to be nice here but this isn't a situation where every factor is weighed equally.
Remember Cohh shilled _Starfail_ weeks after release. I do enjoy most of Cohh's playthroughs and respect his opinions, but when it comes to AAA bloat, I trust nothing coming out of his mouth. I will say at the very least he had the courage to say BG3 final arc was almost unplayable. Edit: Since this post is gaining traction, I'll also say that voice actors were terrible, California girl accent everywhere. How Cohh, who styles himself a connoisseur of voice actors, can say that VA were good only leads me to think he speaks out of corruption, not ignorance.
100% on the voice actor point, and I swear the mouth movements are only even close to lined up like half of the time. Hell, plenty of times people will be talking in a cutscene and their lips just won't move at all.
I’ve only watch this game played. Overall the voice acting seems just terrible or completely phoned in(which is also terrible). All except Solas. Whoever voices him is talented.
I swear, this is probably the first game ever (at the very least the first fantasy game) where I hear unapologetic California valley girl accents. This lack of professionalism or care for immersion is just so shameless. And they're asking $80 for this. I didn't think I'd ever say this, but between D4 and _Mobile Guard,_ I'd fork out the money for the former. It's not worth it, but I'd do it just to save me from this bloated mobile game. I'd choose even _Diablo Immortal_ over this.
Some of the best dialog and interaction between characters to me was original DA between Alistair and Morrigon *chefs kiss*. I was always waiting to hear what was going to be said next during the game.

"This game looks pretty" every asset looks like its made out of plastic. some ok lighting does not change that. Cohhs standards seem to have sunk over the years.
Cohn is a massive shill. He tips toes around opinions on games because he wants to stay in their good books for sponsors and release copies for streaming. His opinion is irrelevant.
The graphical fidelity isn't there, but that doesn't change the fact that the game is pretty. The issue is people would rather play a game that look like turd with crashes and plenty of issues like DA:O rather than this.

Well Skyrim had to get their character designs some where. Still Skyrim had less but still better without mods character choices in my mind than Dragon Age Veilguard.
It looks fine. If it wasn't Dragon Age. Look at how clean the clothes and physical skin are in any and all scenes. It's like Fortnite/Overwatch characters. There is no grit to any of the scenes I've seen. Both physically and the story. It's made for like a 13 year old sheltered child.

Next up Inquisition, not a bad game, it’s “good”, replay ability isn’t there, maybe a 7/10. Veil guard wishes it was 7/10. That’s just my opinion though, everyone’s tastes are different.
I’m fine with games having non-binary and characters with different pronouns but I have no interest paying for forced lectures and statements on gender identity and apologizing by doing pushups (the kind of apology that gets memed on). There is a natural flow to introducing and implementing that, but here it feels forced and almost degrading to the player.

It's like a meticulously crafted chocolate cake, whose appearance is as stunning as a piece of art. The top of the cake is covered with a smooth layer of chocolate glaze, shimmering with an enticing luster. Atop this glaze, intricate decorations of colorful sugar flowers and gold leaf are artfully arranged, each bloom appearing as if freshly plucked from a garden. The edges of the cake are adorned with a delicate border of white chocolate lace, adding a touch of elegance and romance. But there's a catch. The chef's dcik is sticking through the cake, and he stands there, looking down at you with an impatient expression, demanding to know why you're not eating.

My favorite tv shows are the older Star Trek shows. I consider myself a progressive person. I am genuinely dismayed by this trend in "modern writing."
Star Trek ( which is I think a really great example for this kind of thing ) didn’t just pay lip service to hot-button topics; it dived deep, presenting multifaceted issues that encouraged viewers to see things from multiple perspectives.
Doctor Who is an another example. (Not the newer two or so seasons though!)

Agreed.
The writers are so allergic to metaphor and allegory that they couldn't bare to not use the exact same modern terms for this crap. Like any level of abstraction and they were terrified people wouldn't get it

He did mention at the beginning of his opinion video that the first 2 hours of his stream were sponsored. So gee, I wonder why he is dancing around that particular conclusions? It couldn't be the glaringly obvious.

DA: Origins was the start and peak of the franchise 😢
This truly is a shame. I spent hundreds of hours on this game and never played any of the sequels 😂
@@MisterGreenw00d i actually think inquisition was quite genius to keep the core system while making you focus more on your main character. since you did not have to pause select healer select tank heal him but instead you could hard code if character below 25% -> heal him. that actually was good for immersion and if needed you could still pause and select healer and heal whoever you wanted. or select mage to sleep one and then do a fireball. now thats all gone. you dont even have a tank anymore or cc. and they only have 3 SPELLS WITH SHARED CD ;D its just timeslow (like may payne) hack and slash get momentum kill 1 guy off rinse and repeat. so sad.

I feel like everybody is trying to come up with reasons for why they don't like the game without mentioning the ugly character designs and overtly woke messaging that we don't agree with and don't want to see in our games. Probably because they don't want to be written off as bigots but it's like everybody is intentionally not talking about it.
No? That's like, all anybody who isn't a shill is talking about? Literally everything up to the game's release was about how ugly it looks, and the past few days it's been nothing about how woke and terrible the dialogue is.
The only people avoiding talking about those points are either the people that have already made those points and have more to criticize than just repeating those points, or the people that are trying to stay in Bioware's good graces, because they know the second the word "woke" leaves their mouth they'll be blacklisted.
If someone dropped a fantasy game with super strong religious (ie: Christian) undertones and it was as poorly executed as many AAA games of late people would 100% be putting the blame on its heavy attempt to proselytize.
So I’ll use it once every 48 sec, according to my partner’s cooldown, like a detonator - so at least you can see the damage.”
The whole combat reveals itself in the first hour, then it’s just an increase in numbers...
@@Bro-dot- Tell us about the “unplayability with vulnerable companions” of BG3, Inquisition, etc.
@@Bro-dot- was the first game unbeatable lol
One of the problems is that subtext and analogy is dead in modern writing. You have a fantasy setting, so why can't you make a story about say a character who was born with magic talent but who hates being a mage? it's a trait they were born with, but not a trait they enjoy about themselves. They would prefer to be a warrior instead, swinging swords around etc.
This outline would hit the player way more than actually using the word "Trans" and "non-binary" in a medieval fantasy game.

Cohh always try to stay positive.
We will see what he says at the end of the game. He is on nightmare difficulty and the combat it's such a slog.
Cohh probably just plays Mage or has a really sucky rogue or warrior build going on.
The game won't have any legacy like the previous DAs. However good its gameplay is it's still an RPG. This isn't Devil May Cry. People are here for the story and if the writing sucks that's a failure. Cohh is trying to be nice here but this isn't a situation where every factor is weighed equally.
I don't need anyone to tell me not to buy this game
