It is Johnson or Vrabel or even a long shot in Carroll, you’re coming out of this with a great coach. Something to consider.

Will Johnson's contract be linked to a Poles extention if he does not demand his own GM ? An experienced HC is what I'd rather see though. The Bears were asking to be coached HARDER ALL YEAR ! Eberflus was not strict enough & neither was fired OC Waldron. So if Vrabel is off the board hiring a unknown comoddity like Johnson as a Head Coach could be another Big Risk ! Is he really going to be the best fit in Chicago ? Pete Carroll is 73 but its seems too old for the NFL as Andy Reid is the oldest NFL head coach at 66 ! 7 years younger.

The question of Ben bringing in his own GM is something that is doubtful to be offered to him as a first time head coach - he isn’t going to be provided that leverage by any team. All teams he is interviewing w have a GM in place. I could see a scenario that the Bears hire him, and do a Pokes extension for same time span. I have read that he has expressed he has no barrier to working w Poles - they just don’t know each other. Part of the interview process? He has been in the league long enough to have a network… but perhaps the wide net in interviewing candidates could be helpful in that regard as well. One thing that has been repeated about him is that he demands precision and a disciplined approach out of his players. That’s a good thing! But I cannot speak to how he would do managing a team as a whole. These guys are all chances. One thing that I actually like is reports sharing that he is going to be tasked with sharing a plan for the WHOLE team as opposed to just his plan for the offense/Caleb. It also shows that they are concerned about that as well. I like a veteran choice as well - the fact is that if the bears want to fully vet Johnson… it will be a longer process due to interview rules. That could be a good thing but unfortunately it likely puts Vrabel off the table. Could we possibly get it right this time? This process is gonna be a thing. 🐻⬇️
Kind of a funny thing on Carrol: Belichik is considered a good candidate still for teams and they are only one year apart. I’m not so concerned about the age - if he’s the right guy, he’s the right guy. That will be an interesting interview.
@@SportsTalkBears1 No question Pete carroll has a lot of energy. One similarity is Pete had the Legion Of Boom in Seattle with a lockdown 2ndary. The Bears do have Jaylon Johnson , Tyrque Stephenson , Kyler Gordon, Kevin Byard & Jaquan Brisker as probably one of the strongest 2ndarys in the NFL.
Carroll hits the gym daily and is in better shape than a lot of other NFL coaches. Pete brings energy that hasn't been in the locker room for years and has a winning pedigree. He is a proven "leader of men."
Vrabel probably with th Pats... Johnson with Chicago. A Smart offensive guy should help Chicago be more competitive in th North division.. No more free games for G.B. !!!! Bear Down !!
All of these interviews with Ben Johnson, just raise his salary each time. Something out of character would be George paying him 16 mill a yr. If Vrable goes to N England he has my blessings
I think the Bears net is being cast too wide, due dilligence is one thing, but those other names should be whittled down before the interview stage (like any job application process) realistically The bears should only be interviewing 3 maybe 4 candidates at most. And with all the other HC needy teams right now, they need to move fast and be decisive. Yes I know they'd have to wait for Ben and things but for gods sake zero in on the target!

I don't think Ben Johnson would be good for the bears. Todd Monken is my guy. With Tee Martin coming along as OC. It would be best to bring someone who works with Lamar Jackson.

The Bears need to move on from Poles and hire a proven NFL GM. We have a helluva opportunity in FA and the upcoming Draft. But Poles is not the answer
