Huge ford fan here and watching these inspired me to buy a cosworth
But those holdens sound absolutely magnificent
What a great era of touring cars
    They suck now

I believe the Seven Network no longer possess the original master tape of this race, thus this home recording is all that survives.

This was the third year of Channel 7's coverage of the ATCC in 1987.

Many thanks. I worked on this telecast. I should be in pit lane dodging cars. This was back in the days when the cameras in the pits were still on cables and the hot slicks would take them with them as they drove over them! Also, this is where Mike ate all the hot dogs!

kenny8ism You guys did a brilliant job in those days, this was a special telecast for its day (one of my favourites) as most of the crew were from Channel 7 Adelaide, saying that channel 7 could do outside broadcasts from anywhere in Australia. We lead the world in this field. Many thanks for your comment. Tim & Mark

Super100MPH Sincere thanks for that. What we had to do with those tube cameras despite their limitations back in the analogue days would do your head in today. Like I said about cables in the pits, these days you'd do it with a microwave link sent from the camera itself. One thing I remember about this telecast was winding in the joined cables that ran the length of the straight at AIR. Took hours! Sadly, ADS 7 became ADS 10 and nothing was the same again. The 10 network was then like it is now, a train wreck
Again, thanks for bringing these to us. Haven't gotten around to watching this yet but looking forward to hopefully seeing me with a head of hair!

The first win by a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth anywhere in the world.

Great race, did Mike Raymond really eat all the hot dogs?

yes and apparently was a cat that went missing also, Mike did cough up a furball later in the day

Despite all the reliability (turbo) problems with the RS Cosworth, this was the race that confirmed to Dick Johnson that he was onto a winner with the Sierra. And knowing the all singing, all dancing RS500 was coming later in the year he must have been licking his lips at the prospect of what was to come. DJR may have gotten off to a slow start with the RS500 later in the year, but by 1988 it was obvious they had worked it out, speed wise at least. It took a little longer to get Bathurst winning reliability.

all the cars were cool but the Holden's V8 has such a sweet roar! The on board shots are fantastic! Can't get enough of that V8 sound!
