    What amazes me the most about experienced pilots like this is their proficiency on the radio....in psychology there is what is known as the "Executive Functioning" part of the brain. Pilots have some of the most amazing executive functioning skills ever. That ability to multi-task, process a multitude of ever-changing information fluently, and stay ahead of the plane is impressive...not to mention the art of making it look easy. ha ha

    Love the new camera angles. I feel like I am in the cockpit with you. You usually dress very casual but when I saw your attire, I knew you were doing something special. Always enjoy your videos. Lucy was more inquisitive on this flight which is a good thing. Pretty soon she will be occupying the right seat permanently! Best of luck as always!

    Good to see you today. I was wondering where you have been, must been busy. Well I enjoyed this video as always, great info buddy. I really like your past video when your mom flew with you for the first ride in your plane. This brought memories for me when I flew with my dad and mom, well it was her first time in a aircraft ever. She drove my dad crazy with all the questions she had. I answered pretty much of her questions so dad could fly the aircraft. Both of my parents have passed and I really miss those moments in the air with them. I don't fly much, mostly with friends both fixed and rotor but don't operate any, just a ride a long. You and your lady and family have a great upcoming holiday.

    The camera over your left shoulder seem to show the dash at an angle but this is not the case since it was at an angle while taxiing. Not a big deal.

    It's been really nice to ride along with you two. Hope to see more. I haven't flown in quite a few years (except Sims), had around 400 hours when other things intervened. Hope to maybe get to some Light Sport eventually. Did a lot of XC out of ORL - to GCN, GSP, JST, TUL, CHS, ISP, (all separate trips) and all over Florida with a lot of night flying in Florida, mostly in a C172, some Cardinal, some PA28. I did get about 5 hours of right seat time in a Baron one day, ORL-JAX Craig - Opa-Locka-ORL with some sightseeing along the way. That was back in the day when you could do touch and goes at MCO. I remember doing one on 18R, climbing to Pattern, and making a second touch and go, all on one pass. Long runway :) . God bless.....

    I fly a lot out of central Florida in a Seneca V. Since finding your channel, we keep an ear out for the N. Though we usually head North out of the state. We do the same, almost always have an IFR. Of course our families like to track us too. Should be moving up to a Navajo soon.

      +ZooBro Adventure Vlogs nice!! I flew a Navajo a few weeks back. Hoping to get more time in it and some video footage for my channel. Must say it was easier to fly then my Baron. More like a bus. Lol

      That's why we are getting the plane. We need the weight capabilities and range it offers. Plus should be a little faster than the Seneca V. Growing up my dad flew beach planes. Started with a debonair, then A36, then a Baron (can't remember the model) Think it was the the 58.

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому

      I am a fan of lightweight headsets. I have been using these for years. Now that there are a few options I may try out a few others this year. I try to tell her to use the clip. I am not familiar with the snugger band. I will have to look into it.

    • @lylecox4061
      @lylecox4061 7 років тому

      Just call Clarity and ask them for one...its an elastic band that lets the headset fit much better on smaller heads. I put my Clarity's on my granddaughter (7 years old) and the snugger band kept them in place.

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому

      Just looked it up. I use to have them years ago. I never used them. When my kids were little they had kids headsets. Once I get her to use the clip if its still pulling down I may try that. Thanks!

    Nice couple and a very nice aircraft. 👍
    But.... I would throw out all the right side of the avionics, including the grandma TV 😉, and I would install something like a GN750 with a possibility to load and store FPL from your iPad and much more... And you’ll be able to get rid off the second iPad which is obstructing your right hand freedom a bit.
    But that is just my little opinion. 😀

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому

      Thank you for watching. I have been slowly upgrading the avionics. I hope to update the radar screen soon. My second ipad does store and load flight plans into my IFD. In fact it completely controls my IFD with the exception of swapping frequencies. I keep it there so it sits at my finger tips keeping me from having to reach and it enables me to have a much larger screen then a IFD550 or GTN750. It doesn't really block my access to anything. The cross bar does that.

    • @GaryMCurran
      @GaryMCurran 7 років тому

      Mark, you REALLY need to study the Avidyne IFD series of FMS units. The IFD440 is a direct, slide in replacement for the GNS430W navigator, but the big thing is the IFD100, which is the app that BP is running on the iPad. It takes that tiny little 440 screen, and puts it on the iPad, and will also do the same thing for the IFD 500 series as well.
      Not only that, but it actually adds capabilities. You can actually have two different displays, one on the FMS itself, and a second, completely different display on the iPad.
      As BP said, everything you can do from the panel of the IFD series, except swap frequencies, is available on the IFD100 app. You can do your flight planning at home, and then upload to the box when you get the airplane.
      Furthermore, and God knows I never thought I'd say this until a few months ago, I prefer the IFD over the GTN or GNS boxes. It's flight planning capabilities are so much nicer, you can do touch screen reroutes, and all around, Avidyne has just done a better job than Garmin.
      Sure, Garmin beat the Entegra system, but Entegra was the first out of the gate, and Garmin learned from them and made the G1000 and follow on stuff better. However, Avidyne came back and really took Garmin to school on the rest of it. Garmin still exceeds Avidyne is some stuff, but Avidyne is less expensive, and does more.
      BP needs to add an EX6000 display for his radar, and replace that Collins NavCom with a new IFD440, but honestly, he has a really great setup with Avidyne.
      He get me to look at it, and convinced me if I ever buy an airplane, it'll have Avidyne FMS systems in it. Do the research, look at the features, learn for yourself.

    • @Mark-rv5dd
      @Mark-rv5dd 7 років тому

      Gary C REALLY? Thank you for the advice. But...
      1. I live and fly in Europe and Avidyne is mostly the US market product.
      2. I did not insist BP to buy any specific avionics. I said ‘something like...’. If you read carefully... It’s a matter of his personal preference.
      And REALLY, saying that this brand is better over that is a kids talk. They’re competitors.
      3. And if you ‘ever buy an airplane’ you will understand the difference between DEDICATED and PREINSTALLED avionics system
      and a software version.
      You can simply forget your iPad somewhere or it can fall down or go crazy rebooting and so on. 😉
      Your life your choice.

    • @GaryMCurran
      @GaryMCurran 7 років тому

      Hi Mark, Avidyne may not have the presence in Europe that they do in the U.S., and even in the U.S., it isn't as large as Garmin is, it still works in Europe.
      You said "I would throw out all the right side of the avionics, including the grandma TV. . . ." which to me, means you would get rid of all of it, including the Avidyne he has installed. Also, the IFD440 is 'something like' the GTN-750, in that both are touchscreen devices, both have full Nav and Com features and both are GPS units. So, it's already there.
      However, saying one brand is better than the other isn't so much 'kids talk', I'm NOT bashing Garmin. I am saying, dollar for dollar, Avidyne gives you a better solution with a richer feature set and abilities the Garmins don't have.
      Again, look at what the IFD100 app is all about. It only ADDS to the capability of the IFD series navigators, and they function perfectly well without it. For a little bit better understanding of the system, watch these two videos that BP put up.
      ua-cam.com/video/rB8zQ8KoKXI/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/Hn2qoQZDCq0/v-deo.html
      If anything that you say would happen to the iPad, then it's fine, you simply revert back to doing everything directly on the box. But, in the earlier, pre-'84 Barons and Bonanzas, because of the radio placement, the IFD-100 app works very nicely with the Avidynes for accessing data, controlling the boxes, all the way up to everything except physically switching frequencies.
      I respectfully stand by my comments.

    Nice flight. While training for my IFR we used Exec for getting used to high comm environment while under the hood.
    Unfortunately the new camera angle got washed out by the sun glare.
    Maybe a ceiling mounted camera between you n your copilot (like Premier 1 driver) would be better plus a angle view from left mount.
    Always enjoy your vids.

    Hey BP... Camera angles are great "Nice Ride" with a few observations... My 1st time seeing you without a Ball Cap and Sunglasses, Lucy is a very attractive gal and your flying style is quite similar to mine as we both call aloud all of our flight interactions! I got my routine from my father, a 30K ATP Rated Commercial Pilot, an aviation deity in my eyes but where did you pick up your style of piloting? well done and I hope that you enjoy the graduation ceremony ';-)

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому +11

      Much like golf, there is more then one way to hit the ball, but I believe the most important thing to be be consistent in your procedures. My call out have nothing to do with the camera and everything to do with my procedures even when I am alone.
      I have been fortunate enough over the years to fly with many pilots. I never critique the pilots but I pay attention to what I like and don't like and take something from every person I fly with. Sometimes it is what to do, other times it is what not to do. LOL I also studied aviation safety and human factors. So between the two I have developed my own style. I find I am forever tweaking, trying to improve.

      Baron Pilot, it was great fun. The longest flight I made was when our club sold the 152 and I delivered it, flying from Evansville, IN (EVV), to Brazoria County, TX (LBX) and returning the next day on a commercial flight out of Houston. I departed EVV about 0730 on a crisp February morning, made two fuel stops on the way, and arrived at LBX just before sunset. That’s a long day of flying in a 152 with no autopilot. Just me and a small cooler of Diet Cokes.

    A few comments.
    Yeah, I like the camera angles, add another camera for that over the shoulder, where it used to be, and of course, get one for the tail tie-down spot.
    Lucy, as someone mentioned, looked tired, but up for the 'Dawn Patrol', I guess I can understand that. Lovely shot climibing through 6.1 for 7. That was a great sunrise.
    How many hours are you getting out of the jugs on the IO-470s? What ones are you replacing them with? I'm still wondering about those Chuck Ney cylinders, and how they bore them out so they aren't tapered. I saw one B55 on Controller with those jugs and they were 'higher time' and all the compressions were over 70, except maybe one.
    When are you going to get rid of that Collins NavCom and get another IFD440? :p While you're at it, for all your IFR flying, I'm surprised you don't have a FD. Have you considered a couple of the Garmin G5s? The ADI with FD and a second as an HSI.
    Of course, since you and I have conversed last, Garmin has come out with the G500TXi. I'm betting that would look nice in your panel, too! :)
    I'm still liking the Dynon Skyview HDX, but they still don't have it certified yet. Maybe they're waiting for me to win Powerball so I can get my medical back, my instrument and multi ratings, and buy an airplane to put it in. :)
    Anyway, great video, smashed the Like button, of course am subscribed, have a great day!

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому

      With this setup I do need the 4th camera for the over the shoulder shot.
      It is hard to say how long the Jugs have lasted because while I can go back a view the engine logs, I don't know how the engine has been ran, leaned etc... My engine is an old 470 so it has steel cylinders. So when I change them I need to replace them with the same type.
      My next upgrade will be two engine overhauls. So any new avionics will have to wait. Unless you share your power-ball winnings!!

    • @GaryMCurran
      @GaryMCurran 7 років тому

      Baron Pilot I promise, of I win Powerball, a lot of people on UA-cam in the Aviation arena are going to get some nice surprises! Jerry W might be a nice new panel, FlightChops might end up with a nice Piper Arrow, you might get some avionics upgrades.
      I mean, WTH, I'm single, no kids, I'll help the family out, but why not spend the money on people who will appreciate it? :) 😃

    I think I asked you this once before but never saw a reply - When gear is extended and you have three in the green you also say "and one in the mirror" what do you mean by one in the mirror?
    N

    • @midlifeflyer
      @midlifeflyer 7 років тому

      Dane Watson he has an outside mirror which allows visual observation of the gear. There are different types, some placed in a way that allows a view of only one, there’s allow a view of two or three.

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому

      Midlife Flight is Correct. "One in the mirror" refers to visually confirming I see the nose gear down in the mirror on my engine cowling. It isn't necessary as my lights give me the indication but it is a habit of mine to confirm since I have the capability to do so.

    Just wondering a couple of things is this the airport Payne Stewart left from in that Lear Jet Charter. His last flight.Also do a lot of PGA guys use this as their airport for Net Jet and Wheels Up. Is there a good spot to watch airplanes come and go from? I enjoy taking videos of airplanes. In Memphis we have Fed Ex coming and going all the time. Get some QS service Jets not a bunch. Occasional Wheels Up.

      Payne Stewart departed MCO not ORL. They are very close to one another. If I recall correctly MCO has a place at the end/beginning of the runway where you can watch the airplanes come and go. ORL has a part on the SW corner of the field where yo can watch.

    What is it about Continental engines and cylinders? I was looking at a Debonair with only 300 hours on an overhaul and less than 10 hours on cylinder replacement...

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому +1

      In my case my engines are past TBO so I can't really complain. But I think a lot of it has to do with how pilots operate their airplane's and some are overhaul shop related. Case in point. My buddy overhauled 2 IO470's at the same time on his Baron. From the start he found what he felt were abnormalities in the right engine but was told it was fine. At 500 hours, and past any warranty, he brought the plane to another shop and had to replace all 6 jugs on the right engine. That was a $15,000 bill!!! The new shop believed it was an issue from day one that the other shop didn't want to own up to. In fact the mechanic said if he wasn't a twin with a perfect left engine, he would have assumed it was operator neglect. That's why sometimes when you think you're saving money with a overhaul shop, you may be spending much more in the long run.

      @BaronPilot  7 років тому

      I have the ND filters from Nflight for the Gopro but to be honest, I don't like the way they look. Tends to be too dark for my taste. I would also prefer a gradient filter instead. Although the ND would have been useful when I was landing into the sun. I don't know how I get so lucky. I think my settings may have something to do with it.

    When you fly, do you generally hand fly and set bugs based on ATC instructions. When do you employ the autopilot?

    • @BaronPilot
      @BaronPilot  7 років тому +1

      I always set the bugs no matter how I am flying. I believe consistency is your friend. I found I was using the autopilot too much and my hand flying skills were diminishing. Now I will completely hand fly some flights and use the autopilot once I am leveled off at altitude for others. Just depends on my mood and the weather. But as a rule, at a minimum, I try to hand fly to altitude.

    • @BaronPilot

      That is correct. The iPad is running an app called Avidyne IFD100. It connects via WIFI to my Avidyne IFD series GPS. I have had them since 2003 and I love the light weight over the traditional headsets. At the time they were the only game in town that made headsets like these. I wish someone made a noise canceling lightweight. Now that there are a few others in the market, I think I need to see how the others compare.
      I have recommended these to a few of my friends. Some didn't like them after buying them. Remember, lightweight headsets are a different feel then traditional headsets and you must get the ear foam inserted properly for proper use.
