Ren writes his own lyrics, produces his own beats (whenever he’s not doing retakes to pay homage to his favorite artists), plays multiple instruments, raps, sings, beat boxes on his own tracks, even plans out his own music videos with his trusty friend &cameraman Sam. He’s a jack of all trades, you can’t box him into one genre. He’s honestly a once in a generation kinda artist.
He does occasionally use other people's beats on his own songs. The Sick Boi album has at least two. Not saying this to take from his genius, just in the interest of clarity.

Mate I love old school rap and Ren is by far my favorite rapper to come out in the past 10 years. Ren doesn't just do rap but here is a list of rap tunes to listen to Seven sins Wicked ways The hunger Genesis Sic boi Life is funny Now if you want to be blown away by music that will make you think and question what the fuck the radio been playing the last 30 years listen to Hi Ren The tale.of jenny and screech full version Money game part 3 Enjoy the ride mate
Dive in the DEEP end... Ren's "Seven Sins" showcases a lot but not ALL of his talents as a producer, writer, rapper, multi linguist, and gives a deep dive into his state of health and state of mind. HAVE YOU EVER FELT PAIN!
Definitely have to check out Hi Ren and Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla. Chalk outlines is not a rap but shows his talents. Great review Glad you didn’t cut it off after the first 30 seconds.
Find Castles Made of Sand, Wicked Ways, (lyric video) and Power. All are his production and my Favs. And for old school aka Beastie Boys tribute, What You Want is AWESOME as well
@@dogfish2859 ... Well you must not know any old school hip-hop heads, It's not a slight on "Hunger", the track is fire, and while the last part definitely got that hip-hop vibe. The track itself is more like a rap resume', he released it at a time people where just starting to discover him on youtube, before Hi Ren, and were saying stuff like, can this guy really rap rap though? So it's kind of random showing off of different skill sets.
It was shot in Calgary where he’s currently undergoing medical treatments. He raps, but it’s just part of what he does. He’s an incredible artist, musician, guitarist, singer, the list goes on. He dropped his first rap album this year and it hit number one in the U.K.
PEEP... aka li'l Peep. It is just the accent. It takes a few songs to get use to the accent when you first hear him. He is extremely intelligent, like a high IQ type of guy. He is meticulous, and has his pulse on the finest detail, a perfectionist. He would never make a blunder as bad as giving his RIP to someone that is alive. 😂
@LoutTsu yeah, he said he realized after Sick Boi was released that Paul wrote Let It Be & was mad at himself for the mistake. 7 Sins is one of my favourites
@@LoutTsu Right, Paul and John co-wrote music for the Beetles as well as John taking lead vocals now and then. So considering it is 40 yrs out of Ren's era that is a pretty easy mistake. Especially since Paul's name was credited on the song for vocals, easy mistake. When Ren found out he was upset but the rhyme and flow etc was not worth the trouble to change that whole section on Seven sins. Giving a shout out "RIP" to someone that is alive would be a much bigger mistake. Being detailed and meticulous causes less mistakes, it doesn't eliminate them.
First off, I'm pretty sure he was referring to Lil' Peep, who died back in '17 As far as what Ren is - it's complicated. He started out "busking" (street peforming) - solo, with fellow buskers, and as part of a band, where he signed a contract with Sony - before that contract was mutually canceled due to illness. All the while he'd upload said street performances, and what he was working on for his debut album to UA-cam. Once he was able to make music again, he started uploading those to UA-cam, as well as further street performances. By 2023 he had around a couple hundred thousand subscribers - until he released an acoustic guitar backed, battle with his subconscious, quasi rap/spoken word number called "Hi Ren" - and I guess you could say the algorithim blessed him, because that's when the UA-cam reactors noticed him. The result was a sort of homeostasis of reactors bringing more attention and thus fans to Ren (who crossed 1 million subscribers late last year), and subsequent reactors getting likes/subscribes when they covered a Ren track - encouraging said reactors to continue going through his back catalog This was magnified by him continuing to release music videos and straight audio for the tracks that would be on his rap album "Sick Boi" - followed by its release in October of last year. Thanks to the reactor fueled attention, said independent album hit #1 in the UK, and peaked at 137 on Billboard. So, no, not just a UA-cam artist, but UA-cam has definitely played a huge role in his popularity And yes, there is a reason I specified "artist" - multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer - *and* rapper. This guy is like a musical chameleon lol
Throwing this in here under your comment because you touched on the role UA-cam reactors have played since Hi Ren dropped so it seems like as good a place as any to add it: "An isotope, a proton and a neutron in the nuclei And split an atom in a fraction, a reaction supersize Me and I supersize my order" a reaction supersize me... "thanks, UA-cam reaction channels!" and I supersize my order ... "I'm only gonna go harder, with the attention you (the UA-cam reactors) brought to me" idk if that's a stretch or not, with the "a reaction supersize me" line not making a coherent sentence that maps exactly onto the idea of him giving props to reactors, but my brain sure as hell "hears" it that way.
Ren is a special dude. Musically, he has become one of my favorite artists. But he’s a good human being as well, that’s been through a hell of a lot. Which just makes me respect him even more
The warning in your voice (son, if you screw up this legendary beat, I'll find you) and the smile that appears as you react are everything I expected from your reaction😊 Welcome to the world of Ren ❤
Ren raps... but it would be hard to call him a rapper because when he pulls out the acoustic guitar and sings ... well let's just say it's special. Ren's got a deep backstory (the kind they make moves about) and he is currently in Calgary (Canada) undergoing medical treatment, that's where this is filmed. For me, what separates him from others is he does a lot of live and 1 take video's where he's on guitar or piano, sometimes with others... it's so amazing to hear music that feels authentic again.. not so overmixed and touched up it's lost its soul.
Not just a rapper, not just a singer ... he is also a fantastic composer. Check put his piano piece, Mackay - a tribute to a lost friend. Ren tells a whole story in that piece without a single word.
This rabbit hole will take you to places you don't expect. If you do this, you may find your musical tastes broadened whether you like it or not. So, this is your fair warning. 😉
And slowly, throughout the reaction, an open smile appeared on the face of the "Old School Hip-Hop Head".... It's the Ren effect!... Thanks for the reaction... fantastic!
Man, this is the reaction I didn't know I needed, finally a reaction from an old head like me. I knew you weren't going to like the first part, but figured by the end, especially when he dropped the "sleep is the cousin of death" bar from NY State of Mind, that you'd at least be curious to see more. I've been followin' Ren for a minute now, but I tell ya, it was a tough sell at first, but this kid is something different, he don't just rap, he can do any genre, and trust me, that is no exaggeration. But he has a soft spot for hip-hop, specifically 90's hip-hop and he's a true student of the culture. I think a great track you could consider for your next song, that shows his range, but still has a little hip-hop in it, is a mash-up song he does with his band The Big Push, "I shot the sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip-hop" (Bob Marley/Ziggy Marleyft.Nas/Dead Prez). It's a live performance on the streets of Brighton England, they call that "Busking" over there in the U.K., but it sounds like a studio recording, good stuff. (look for the red suspenders in the thumbnail) Great reaction my man, welcome to the Ren rabbit hole!
😁 So glad you gave Ren a chance. He's from Wales, usually lives in Brighton, England, but is currently living in Canada (where the video is) getting intense medical treatments for his autoimmune and brain damage due to misdiagnosis & illness (Lyme disease, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, +). He's fully independent, which is probably why you'd think of him as a UA-camr. He did just chart UK #1 album for Sick Boi, so social media is working well for him. He has music in nearly every genre, but I think you should check out "Genesis" next. Great lyrics and beat. My recent faves are "Seven Sins" and "Illest of Our Time," but the best all around introductory video/song is definitively "Hi Ren." He was signed to Sony at an early age, but got sick and couldn't fulfill the contract and they let him go with his music. As a child, he started out creating beats and selling CDs of them at festivals and pubs. He taught himself guitar watching videos. He plays a dozen instruments but mostly guitar, piano, bass and drums. He's a masterful storyteller, so if you're ever in the mood, check out his 13-minute trilogy, "The Tales of Jenny and Screech."
Oh wow, of all the Ren tracks for a hip hop connoisseur to start with, I was seriously nervous for a while there! I'm very glad the genius that is Ren won you over in under a minute! I'll be back if you do any more, I think you might be pleasantly surprised quite often. 🖤🖤🖤
@@RobotronOG He literally went in saying he was hoping he was bad so he could trash him. It's not about having a different opinion. I think anyone would be nervous that an artist they love might be trashed and that they might be trashed just because someone is in the mood to trash. I'm glad he was really open to acknowledging the strong points that he recognized.
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Ren. He does everything. Raps, sings, produces his own beats, beatbox, plays guitar and piano. He also bends genres Hip Hop, Reggae, R&B, Blues, Jazz, singer songwriter, poet ect. Some tracks you might like more than others but there’s one thing that’s consistent no matter what bag he’s in HE NEVER MISSES! If you like more of his hip hop side check out The Hunger, Genesis, Losing It Fisher Rap Retake, Murderer, Sic Boi, Seven Sins, and Illist of Our Time.
Great reaction! Ren is unique. He raps (The Hunger, Illest of Our Time, Wicked Ways & many more). he sings (Chalk Outlines (live acoustic version), How to be Me, Diazepam, Fred Again retake, Back on 74 retake & many more). He mixes rap & singing (Ocean, 7 Sins, Lost All Faith, Suicide). His band The Big Push does rock (What Kind of Woman is This, Why My Woman ...), raggae (I Shot the Sherrif/Zion/Hip Hop - look for the version eith Ren in the red suspenders), blues, punk ... And Ren does something thats a little hard to categorize - Songs like Hi Ren, the Tales of Jenny, Screech & Violet, the Money Game trilogy (especially Money Game 3, which is a cinematic triumph) - all shot live, in 1 take (well, 1 necessary cut in Money Game 3). You should also watch Ren's 1 000 000 subscriber thank you video for a glimpse of his humble personality. I hope you dive into his back catalogue - with Ren, you never quite know what you are going to get
oh man, yeah! The Harry Mack tribute track is SO MUCH MORE IMPACTFUL if you've spent time with more than a couple of Ren's songs/know a bit about what he's been through...
Yo Rio, you right about Peep roc but I believe Ren was laying flowers for Lil Peep who OD in 2017 at age 21, just as he was hitting the big time. Also Ren I produces his own beats & if ya noticed Ren added & changed up Large Professor's beat adding some electric guitar licks, which Ren probably played himself. Ren isn't just a rapper, he's a multi genre, multi instrumentalist, producer and artist. I think you'd appreciate his song "Genesis" or his homage to The Beastie Boys with "What You Want" & maybe "Hi Ren" but to really get his work you gotta understand his struggles & what he's had to overcome. To be honest I doubt you'd vibe to a lot of it because you're a very much an old school PURIST. ✌
Love how he slowly won you over. Might be my favorite reaction. I think because your getting on the train at a differant station than the rest of us. It will be interesting to see your perspective keep slowly evolving.
Singer, rapper, writer, producer, director, instrumental, beatboxer, bardcore. It was lil peep he shouted out. He has been unable to do live shows due to illness and probably will never be able to tour. Filmed in Canada where he is undergoing treatment. #1 uk album in October without any tours, independent. Most talented multidimensional artist today.
Ren is on UA-cam as his illness has prevented him from doing much live performance. He's also much more than a rapper. His singing voice is the best I've heard in decades, whether in his own original songs or the covers of classics.
Ren did talk about Large Professor with the whole diamond than atom scheme. Main source breaking atoms... also in the pirate scheme waviest guy. Like NAS/ kid wave. Ren has been making music since he was 12. He has been busking these last 15 years in Brighton. And has had a small following. Posting songs or mostly doing live streams on twitch or busking. He recently last year uploaded his Hi Ren which is what caught the eye of so many people reactors. Ren has embraced all reactors and they helped eachother Rens motto is "Rising tides lift all ships". He stands for change! Self taught. His guitar would listen to jimi hendrix tapes and pause them learning the strings. Also classical piano listening to greats like beethoven and learning by ear. Taught himself his voice everything. Ren has studied and drew inspiration from every single type of music. He writes so many lyrics on concious world issues, he can't stand the disgrace music has turned into and is taking the greats from music and putting a little personal modern touch to them mixing genera at times. He wants to keep real music alive and bring it back and for people to be more aware of where we all come from.
Yeah man he was referring to Lil' Peep. Knowing Ren's background sheds a bright light on his music and where it comes from. He recently hit #1 on the UK charts with his album "Sickboi", beating out the likes of Drake and Rick Astley. Mind you he is Welsh and an independent artist who accomplished this feat without traditional promotion, marketing or radio play. He's a massive supporter of the UA-cam Reactor community and accredits said Reactors for much of his success. Like I said, knowing Ren's background brings a deeper understanding as to the origins of his music. Busking on the streets of Brighton, England. A Producer for Sony saw him perform, he was signed to Sony shortly after that. But due a mysterious (At the time) Illness, Ren and Sony parted ways. Ren was overcome by the Illness and spent 13 years suffering a myriad of issues, it was only more recently Ren was finally diagnosed correctly with the very rare (In the UK) Lyme Disease. Due to the Lyme Disease being left untreated and the barrage of medications he'd been given while misdiagnosed, he suffers from Auto Immunity issues, severe side effect symptoms and psychosis. Recently he moved to Canada to undergo treatments to mitigate the effects of Lyme Disease and to undo much of the damage from past mis-treatments. Ren isn't just a Rapper, he's a genre bending artist. His own brand called Bardcore and Rap, Reggae, Rock, Jazz, etc. Multi-Instrumentalist, Rapper, Vocalist, Songwriter, director, actor, etc. He produces his beats and directs all of his videos along with small but talented team of friends. His Busking Band "The Big Push" has a some great covers and mashups. His collaborations with the likes of Sam Thompkins, Chinchilla and others have produced some of the best of Ren's music. Welcome to the Rabbit-Hole that is Ren...
So glad you didnt 💩 on him 😄 He is Welsh UK independent artist with a lot of depth to him. Self taught multiinstrumentalist, singer, story teller etc. This was a non monetarised homage to Nas. Check out his singing voice back on 74/message in a bottle retake being his latest. This was filmed in one shot in Calgary where he has getting medical treatment for his agonising long term Lymes disease he has also suffered for over 13 years & psychosis due to being misdiagnosed by medical industry. When he said - reaction - super size me he is thanking reaction community like he did on his thanks to one mil subscribers video. I know you're old hip hop head but appreciate you at least were willing to give this track a chance. I know we can sometimes feel more comfortable with what we are familiar with so hope you are open to hearing him sing as well. 🎶🧡🔥👩🦰
The other fun double with the rat scheme was he tied it to pie 🥧 and the video was released on Pi Day 3/14 I think he was shouting out Peep in the RIP section, not Pete. But I love that he paid tribute to Nas and gave him his flowers while he is still with us 💐 Ren does his own production, it’s actually how he got started before he became a rapper / singer / performer. If you check out his other tracks, he makes his own beats. Ren is an independent artist originally from Wales 🏴 but spent many years in Brighton England where he became well known as a busker (street performer) along with his band The Big Push. But he’s been living in Calgary Canada (where this was filmed) for over a year while he gets medical treatment. His hip hop album Sick Boi hit number one on the UK charts, which is an accomplishment as an independent artist.
Renegades here saying Hi, Old School Hip-Hop Head ❤ His 2nd Album, Sick Boi, went to #1 in the UK back in October, beating out Rick Astley, the RickRoller himself and Drake..
The flow! The delivery! The performance! The one-take! The lyrics! His LYRICS! All out of this World, as always! :) However the icing on the cake is Ren's remix of the beat! The added audio, especially the guitar! Just fantastic! :)
He didn’t say Pete Rock he said Lil Peep. I am glad you changed your mind about Ren because he does it all!!! Sings, raps, plays guitar piano beatbox, he writes all his stuff and he is very intelligent and knowledgeable about a lot of stuff. He also decides how he wants his videos to look like. He is amazing and we love him!!!! Great reaction 😊👍
Ren is a phenomenal artist. Everyone has their own style. He's a unicorn. Gotta check out "Hi Ren", "Money Game" pt 1, pt2, & pt3. "Animal Farm". Those are just some of his more current hits. But "Hi Ren" is what got all of us turning our chairs around
The first few bars were a reference to Big L. The guy knows his history! Loved seeing him grab your attention. Seven Sins is a good original rap by him. He also did an original Beastie Boys tribute "in the spirit of" BB called What You Want if you want a fun one.
We the rats eating the pie and spreading his music like the plague. Honestly I can’t get enough. Thank you Joy for requesting this. Welcome to the world of REN sir. Subbed
Rio I been following you for a couple years and I know you got a high ass bar for rap, so you gave REN even a little positive credit I’m really proud of REN for stepping up like he did on this beat. From another old school hip hop head, I’d recommend Genesis and Murderer. Almost everything outside of those 2 I’d check out would be showcasing his musical abilities like the Back on 74 retake. Money Game 3 is a dope example of his theatrical Videos that a lot of us love.
62 year old white lady just discovered Nas.. because of Ren. To many favorites to list but love Hi Ren and The Hunger. Welcome to the Ren Rabbit Hole. BTW.. he mentioned you reactors in the "nuclear" flow..
It’s Calgary where Ren is receiving his medical treatment. He has been close to death . He is actually Welsh, brought up in Ynis Mon he can actually speak Cymraeg. He went to Uni to study music in Bristol, but then was based in Brighton where most of his MVs were filmed
Ren's music is very different, I don't know how much you'd like his stuff, but Hi-Ren is a game changing song (like indie folk rock), he did a diss track against someone that came at him named King Dotta, call Dumb King Come. Good reaction though, glad you gave him a shot.
You gave him a chance that deserves a sub. That smile you got on your face that deserves a sub. That you going to listen to more that deserves a sub. And that your old school and knowledgeable in the subject of hip hop that deserves a sub. Good video man can’t wait to see the next one you put out. Going for your back catalogue now.
Hands down the most purely candid reaction. The passion for music & the culture of this art form shines from you. Not corny over-actions or playing up for subscribers. Your honesty is gold Bro. Genesis to continue down the rap lane or Hunger. The Big Push :I shot the Sheriff, Road to Zion,Hip-Hop ( REN’s wearing Red suspenders/braces thumbnail) Appreciate you Bro, Fire Reaction & wish you & your channel all the success 🔥🔥🔥
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. The Hunger is basically his resume for rap. So many flows on that one. He's not just a rap artist. He is a musician that is an artist. His respect for music goes so deep. Go down that rabbit hole and you'll think you're Alice in Wonderland. It takes you places that you can't possibly dream of.
Towards the beginning, he's actually doing a shout out to comments left in NAS's OG video comments where someone asked what Rap without NAS is like, the most popular responses are quoted. (China without rice, etc.) This goes WAY deeper with Ren throwin' big respect to NAS. Shout out to @RikaShae explaining it here: ua-cam.com/video/TY80_Dw2ORc/v-deo.html
He actually said Lil Peep. Check out Ren’s other songs: Hunger Genesis Hi Ren Sick Boi Power Losing It Seven Sins Murderer Down on the Beat ft. Viktus. A little backstory: Ren is originally from Wales then moved to Brighton in the UK. Around age 17 he became very ill with crippling pain, hallucinations and psychosis. He was misdiagnosed for 10 years until finding out he had Lyme disease. The last year or two he has been living in Calgary receiving treatment every day to heal from all the years of damage because of the misdiagnosis. He is an independent artist who just recently had the #1 album in the UK with Sick Boi. Just to get started
Thank you for the honest reaction. Its awesome to see first time reactors to Ren. It was all a one take btw. Im subbing to see not just Ren reactions but all of 'em.
"Genesis" is a must watch I believe will turn any hip-hop head into a believer, and as an old schooler you'll probably enjoy his homage to Beastie Boys "What You Want". "The Hunger" is him flexing. And there's a lot more. Ren is VERY versatile and this is a rabbit hole you don't wanna miss. Subbed and looking forward!
Great reaction! ❤ Ren is probably the best most all around talented musician on the planet! Just wait til you hear him sing, He does it all! Plays instruments, sings, raps and produces to a very high level. Welcome to the rabbit hole where every track is something different every time!
This was an awesome reaction, I loved it! It's really hard to hate on Ren man. He has so much love and respect for hip hop, and it shines through his work. One thing you may have missed, the pirate bar was a shout out to Slick Rick! If you want to see his ultimate flex in rap, you gotta check out The Hunger. You might want to look at the lyrics for that one in advance. It is straight bars, a wicked flow, and close to 1,000 words in a 2.5 min song.
Ren is bringing RAP to a whole world of people that would never have heard of it if not for his other creations. Rappers- see Dotta Diss for example of how he’ll change RAP for the better.
I never seen your channel before but am a huge Ren fan! Grew up in the 90’s and love old school rap. Please check out more Ren. He is not just a rapper. Ren sings, plays multiple instruments, makes his own beats and is a student of all music! Start with Hi Ren and go from there! Loved your honest reaction.
Welcome to Ren! He is definitely more than a UA-cam rapper! His hip hop album Sick Boi debuted at number one in the UK last October. He is completely independent and can do it all. Check out The Hunger, Hi Ren, Genesis, Illest of our time, and the Money Game Trilogy as a starting place. But he can also sing and play multiple instruments, beat boxes and makes his own beats. Subbed for more 💜💜
If this is your first exposure to ren, are you ever in for the ride of your life. His fans RENegades are rabid supporters of him, so any reaction you do with his music will get you massive views. You need to start with Hi Ren, which is just over a year old, and then jump into his 4 rabbit holes. Storyteller Ren, singing Ren, Rapping Ren and his band The Big Push. He's got over a decade of catalogue options. He will also introduce you to a few rabbit hole artists that he works with. He independently released his 1st rap album last fall, and he debuted at number 1 on the british new album charts. If you wanna hear his story, theres a few reactors that have interviewed him. Anyone of them is worth it. Black Pegaus n Don Juanabee have a good one with him. Charismatic Voice, Justin Hawkins Rides Again and Knox Hill all have good interviews with him too.
Appreciated the honest reaction. As I'm sure others have said this guy is simply musically talented moving from genre to genre. Never know what you'll hear when you press play. I see some have mentioned the reaction scheme and how while he's been ill for the past decade with misdiagnosed Lyme Disease which ravaged his body. Managed to independently release a #1 album in the UK that hit top 200 billboard while he's in Canada getting daily IV treatments, etc to help ease the damage unfettered Lyme Disease will do. However, as a big Nas fan myself, I can't believe you didn't call out the double on the pirate/waviest scheme. But it was your first listen and his accent takes a little bit to get accustomed to. "Pie rats can't relax I'm the waviest guy" Obviously, waviest relating to the pirate/boat scheme, but before Nas became Nasty Nas he was Kid Wave.
He is an independent rapper who should be mainstream. He is genreless and fantastic. Sings- raps - writes - produces- plays ( drums, base, guitar, piano, cello….) selftaught( with UA-cam). He changes flows like you breathe. Lyrical acrobatics. Many of his videos ( up to Money Game 3 had minimal budget) were friends pitching in. Many of these videos took many takes to get the take used- so essentially a live performance- The Hunger Games- The Tales Trilogy, Animal Flow Genisis-Murderer… His pov is unique- been through it - Lyme disease for 7 years prior to a diagnosis- led to unnecessary treatments and stress psychosis.
Welcome to the world of Ren! I would love to hear more Ren Reactions from you. He developed a love for hip hop when he was a child and started producing beats. When he couldnt find anyone in his town in Wales who could rap over them, he started rapping himself.
He’s had UK #1 Album “Sick Boi” You should checkout his “Hunger” or “Losing it” “Hi Ren” “Money Game 1,2 n 3” the trilogy of “tale of Jenny and Screech” he’s the one take king
I love when he says “I’m pimping my pain. Prostitute of all that’s insane. I write down all my problems and the sales will rise.” He’s very forward about his physical and mental health struggles in his music.
He made number one in the UK and record sales last October but he’s an independent artist and I love that he just gave you props on one of your first videos of him so that’s amazing
Your genuine reaction and stating your trepidation right off but slowly warming up and giving him his due flowers earned my subscription. I'll be checking out more of your stuff soon.

Can I get some love for Castles Made Of Sand?

Well he did credit John Lennon for Let It Be, written by Paul McCartney. But he rolls with the blunders as well as the punches 💪
When I first heard that I thought he was trolling Paul until I saw he just fucked up.
“Ren stans, I know you’re out there”
… you rang? Lmaooooo
First off, I'm pretty sure he was referring to Lil' Peep, who died back in '17
As far as what Ren is - it's complicated.
The result was a sort of homeostasis of reactors bringing more attention and thus fans to Ren (who crossed 1 million subscribers late last year), and subsequent reactors getting likes/subscribes when they covered a Ren track - encouraging said reactors to continue going through his back catalog
This was magnified by him continuing to release music videos and straight audio for the tracks that would be on his rap album "Sick Boi" - followed by its release in October of last year.
Thanks to the reactor fueled attention, said independent album hit #1 in the UK, and peaked at 137 on Billboard.
So, no, not just a UA-cam artist, but UA-cam has definitely played a huge role in his popularity
And yes, there is a reason I specified "artist" - multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer - *and* rapper. This guy is like a musical chameleon lol
U killed that...😊🐰🐷🤓
Throwing this in here under your comment because you touched on the role UA-cam reactors have played since Hi Ren dropped so it seems like as good a place as any to add it:
"An isotope, a proton and a neutron in the nuclei
And split an atom in a fraction, a reaction supersize
Me and I supersize my order"
a reaction supersize me... "thanks, UA-cam reaction channels!"
and I supersize my order ... "I'm only gonna go harder, with the attention you (the UA-cam reactors) brought to me"
idk if that's a stretch or not, with the "a reaction supersize me" line not making a coherent sentence that maps exactly onto the idea of him giving props to reactors, but my brain sure as hell "hears" it that way.
Ren is a special dude. Musically, he has become one of my favorite artists. But he’s a good human being as well, that’s been through a hell of a lot. Which just makes me respect him even more
The hunger , losing it, and just to f$$k with your head the tales of jenny and screech. Welcome to the ren rabbit hole . 😂😊
Ps ... New subscriber
The warning in your voice (son, if you screw up this legendary beat, I'll find you) and the smile that appears as you react are everything I expected from your reaction😊
Welcome to the world of Ren ❤
Ren raps... but it would be hard to call him a rapper because when he pulls out the acoustic guitar and sings ... well let's just say it's special.
Thanks for the reaction... fantastic!
By the way, it seems like he says "...Rest in peace, Pac, rest in peace, Peep, rest in peace..."!
I assume it's a reference to Lil Peep... no?!
Ren has made me fall in love with Rap all over again. Please give him a real chance. He's amazing and he was raised on hip hop.
(look for the red suspenders in the thumbnail)
Great reaction my man, welcome to the Ren rabbit hole!
My recent faves are "Seven Sins" and "Illest of Our Time," but the best all around introductory video/song is definitively "Hi Ren."
He was signed to Sony at an early age, but got sick and couldn't fulfill the contract and they let him go with his music.
Nervous? That some dude on the internet might have a different opinion than you.. Hilarious 😂
@@RobotronOG happy to assume you.
@@meggsy82 LOL
You have no idea..Rapping is his side hustle and he still makes most look stupid
"This shit tic-tac-toe."
@@sandiraymond1761🤗🤗😘✌️✌️
I hope you dive into his back catalogue - with Ren, you never quite know what you are going to get
The tales we call BARDCORE
Ren is from Uk he can do any Genera of music he play guitar bass drum Piano produces his own music he mixes his own beats beatboxes sings and raps and
Genesis might be one of his you like ,subbed ❤
Agreed.
Good call - I love Genesis
💯 Subbed & hoping for more Ren reactions 😊
DON'T watch Harry Mack's tribute to Ren until you've watched more Ren, it'll be worth the wait! Glad you caught on to Ren
oh man, yeah!
The Harry Mack tribute track is SO MUCH MORE IMPACTFUL if you've spent time with more than a couple of Ren's songs/know a bit about what he's been through...
Also don’t do For Joe or Suicide until you’ve listened to a lot more of his work and know him better
Now check out back on 74 retake to witness the other side of ren. Dudes too talented
And then the Black Sabbath cover for the "OTHER other side."
@@sandiraymond1761and then Hi Ren or the Tales of Jenny/Screech/Violet or Money Game 3 for the other other side 😊
ren a musical Genius
He had a no 1 album in the UK last october , sick boi
Castles Made of Sand, a bonus track off his last album, is what was made for you to check out.
This one is 🔥
definitely one of my favourite songs ever, wish there was a video for it
Love how he slowly won you over.
Rens 16 bar challenge is freestyle
Ren is on UA-cam as his illness has prevented him from doing much live performance.
He's also much more than a rapper. His singing voice is the best I've heard in decades, whether in his own original songs or the covers of classics.
Ren's an absolute anomaly. Just F'ng amazing at everything he does. Glad you didn't give up on him.
I’m about that old school too and I felt like he would get you by the end. He knows his rap history and gives his props.
You need to listen to the hunger.
REN does everything himself.
I think that he shouted out large professor when he did his Atom/ neutron proton scheme. Reference to breaking Atoms.
Ren recently got #1 album in the UK, amazing for an independent artist. Ren does it all, 1st heard him 18 months ago, haven't stopped listening since.
The other fun double with the rat scheme was he tied it to pie 🥧 and the video was released on Pi Day 3/14
I think he was shouting out Peep in the RIP section, not Pete. But I love that he paid tribute to Nas and gave him his flowers while he is still with us 💐
Ren does his own production, it’s actually how he got started before he became a rapper / singer / performer.
He is a brilliant artist both with his pen and as a musician but probably his strongest point are his production skills.
"Animal Flow" 😉
Money game for sure
53 granny cracker here. Same!
You have no idea what about to happen. Lol. Here come the renegades!!!! You’re in for a wild ride my friend. Enjoy!!
It’s Calgary where Ren is receiving his medical treatment. He has been close to death . He is actually Welsh, brought up in Ynis Mon he can actually speak Cymraeg. He went to Uni to study music in Bristol, but then was based in Brighton where most of his MVs were filmed
He went to Uni in Bath but only managed a few months before his disease took over and he was bed bound. Just wanted to clarify this.
@@albamartinez4987 Sorry - I got Bath and Bristol mixed up
Welcome to the wonderful world of ren! Ooooh I think you might love rens son "what you want"....it has heavy beastie boys vibes 😊💜💜
He has a 16 bar challenge freestyle youll like.
Yes! Thanks I was racking my brains thinking I'm sure there's one somewhere 😂 from quite a while ago if I recall correctly
Ren's music is very different, I don't know how much you'd like his stuff, but Hi-Ren is a game changing song (like indie folk rock), he did a diss track against someone that came at him named King Dotta, call Dumb King Come. Good reaction though, glad you gave him a shot.
I have been watching King Dotta's reactions to all of Ren's stuff, he totally respects him 100%, neat perspective. Be well!
@@Barnes466NOW he does, only because Ren took the high road and gave him a shout out.
REN’s ‘diss’ track is too much ‘motherhood, apple pie and ice cream’ at the end, to qualify as a real diss track.
Ren Stan right here front and center 😂
Tha bars at the start giving shout outs to Proof and Juice 🔥🔥🔥
You gave him a chance that deserves a sub. That smile you got on your face that deserves a sub. That you going to listen to more that deserves a sub. And that your old school and knowledgeable in the subject of hip hop that deserves a sub. Good video man can’t wait to see the next one you put out. Going for your back catalogue now.
I concur. Subscribed as well.
Hands down the most purely candid reaction. The passion for music & the culture of this art form shines from you. Not corny over-actions or playing up for subscribers. Your honesty is gold Bro.
Genesis to continue down the rap lane or Hunger.
The Big Push :I shot the Sheriff, Road to Zion,Hip-Hop ( REN’s wearing Red suspenders/braces thumbnail)
Appreciate you Bro, Fire Reaction & wish you & your channel all the success 🔥🔥🔥
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. The Hunger is basically his resume for rap. So many flows on that one. He's not just a rap artist. He is a musician that is an artist. His respect for music goes so deep. Go down that rabbit hole and you'll think you're Alice in Wonderland. It takes you places that you can't possibly dream of.
Hunger has ALL the BARS & FLOWS & CADENCES. Youre welcome in advance😂
Ren 16 Bar Challenge - closest thing to freestyle
He's referring to a rapper called Lil Peep who died in 2017. Was an amazing lyricist. RIP.
This guy is the one take master no editing here
Towards the beginning, he's actually doing a shout out to comments left in NAS's OG video comments where someone asked what Rap without NAS is like, the most popular responses are quoted. (China without rice, etc.) This goes WAY deeper with Ren throwin' big respect to NAS.
Shout out to @RikaShae explaining it here: ua-cam.com/video/TY80_Dw2ORc/v-deo.html
He's a Welsh man ❤
He actually said Lil Peep. Check out Ren’s other songs:
Hunger

A little backstory: Ren is originally from Wales then moved to Brighton in the UK. Around age 17 he became very ill with crippling pain, hallucinations and psychosis. He was misdiagnosed for 10 years until finding out he had Lyme disease. The last year or two he has been living in Calgary receiving treatment every day to heal from all the years of damage because of the misdiagnosis. He is an independent artist who just recently had the #1 album in the UK with Sick Boi.
Just to get started
Buckle up Bro... Ren is 100% on his own level! More layers than an onion, more bars than a prison!!!
Thumbs up from the RENegades!

Ren is Iconic! Ren-Genesis 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Pie rats can't relax I'm the waviest guy"
Obviously, waviest relating to the pirate/boat scheme, but before Nas became Nasty Nas he was Kid Wave.
Many of these videos took many takes to get the take used- so essentially a live performance- The Hunger Games- The Tales Trilogy, Animal Flow Genisis-Murderer…
His pov is unique- been through it - Lyme disease for 7 years prior to a diagnosis- led to unnecessary treatments and stress psychosis.
He crosses all bridges ! Nice reaction Add another here. Won't go into all that is Ren but if you look more of this beat has meaning in his life.
The ren rabbit hole is open😂
He made number one in the UK and record sales last October but he’s an independent artist and I love that he just gave you props on one of your first videos of him so that’s amazing
