What got me was the bit about feeling like the charity case.

I have to say I feel exactly the same. When I was in school, I felt like I was the outsider, the nerd, the reject. I've bumped into some of my old classmates many years later and they greet me like an old long lost friend. It was quite shocking really. In fact, I felt terrible because they remembered my name easily but I'd forgotten theirs - I just didn't feel like I was part of the group, but I guess I was. I also thought I was the only person who felt like this, but maybe it's the other way around. Do most people feel like outsiders and rejects?
meanwhile I loved myself and my narcissistic mom destroyed everything good and happy about me so I hated myself
I went from hysterically laughing to slightly tearing up all within a 10 minute clip just because how relatable everything that was talked about is. Always a fan of Kumail. What a great episode.
The chemistry between these two so great, they both seem really similar personalities, both quick witted, comedically driven overachievers
I love how when Conan gets really personal he looks toward his Chums. They're his security blanket when he opens up.

I'm in my 30's and recently went through something that Kumail touched on at the end of this video. I legit had that same conversation with people I've known since childhood that I didn't grasp the full scope of our friendship because of my own insecurities

What if you tried intentionally to start making “wrong” decisions? I think that lack of self trust is what leads to so much suffering. Thinking that you’re a danger to yourself is the bigger problem. It’s your life. You can live however you like. Everywhere you go there you are. Start to see if you can trust yourself with your own life. It’s yours, after all. I think this opens up soooo many doors of not only opportunity but also happiness and contentment…because you finally get to be you in your own life. Anyway rant over. Onward!!!
What I've realized is that even "wrong" decisions are better than no decisions. There really is no right and wrong because nothing is stagnant, it's ever changing. It's how you adapt to the changes that determines the success or failure. When things are set in motion opportunities follow one way or another. For me the worst feeling is standing still- not failing.
Wrong decisions also make for great anecdotes lol!
At 45 the situation will be 10 times as bad. So in a way the good news is you are already making the worst possible decision....so any decision you make will be positive. And there's no reason to be terrified of un-doing a terrible decision.

Hearing Kumail at the end talk about how he thought he was unliked in school, only to find out later that he was liked really resonates with me. I went through high school as a nerdy introvert, and I only had 1 real friend in school. I had a couple more friends in my neighborhood, but really only 1 friend in school. Many years later, I've run into some of my classmates and they greeted me as though I was a long lost friend. In some cases I didn't even remember who they were, because I was in my own shell, not really paying close attention to others.
So, for any kids in school today who feel outcast and alone, be aware that some of this may be in your own head. You may well have more friends than you realize. You may not be as much of a misfit as you think.
Funny nerds rock! Being funny and talented is underrated. It gets others through the hard times. Thank you for sharing your gift!

Both Kumail and Conan talk about, what I would call, pressure to figure out who they were, what their role was, how to fit in at a young age (before 18). I never thought of that growing up. Am I the only one? Why at that age do you have to know who you are?
I wonder if because Conan's father had an admired profession as a doctor, plus the added competitiveness of having many siblings to compare yourself to, if that made him feel like he had to declare his profession, like lawyer or author. Maybe his household always talked about careers and that is why it was on his mind? I'm wondering what other people's experiences were?
Well, for me I always had a personality and an idea about myself, but as growing up and living this life that could be pretty hard sometimes, I kept losing faith in myself or trying to change or whatever, untill funny enough, when I was finishing high school and going to college,, I started to choose my values and how I wanna live my life and some decisions that I took back then that I still stand by untill today, so yeah for me 2013 when I was 18 19 i spent a lot of time figuring out who I am and I'm grateful for that year because I established some sense of that.. Of course i went through all kinds of troubles and emotions during and after college and I disconnected with myself for a while, then by 25, when i started working and establishing a somewhat stable life, I started working on myself again and connecting again with myslf ( thanks to covid we all had to ) but yeah I know myself more today than ever and i'm approching 30 i believe the process is still going and i should say, this is more about how I wanna live my life, how I wanna exist, to what I belong, what I appreciate and what I dont, how I can improve my life, how I can stop some bad habits , how I can take it easy on myself, it's more about who i am, than it's about a job or how people see me
When were you 18? Kumail is in his 40s and Conan even later. Back then people weren't as free thinking as we are now. You were expected to move out and have a job straight into college
@@bahiya94 same, I never felt that I needed to "figure myself out", never even thought of it. Everything moved pretty naturally...like ok now it's time for college and oh I guess I'm at college now and same when I started working. I never felt the pressure that it needed to be right or that I needed to be the best at something. But I guess it's those kind of people who have that drive and can make it to the top. Those who feel like they have something to prove. Kind of glad I don't have it tbh
@@myztik5716 I think it's partially about generational differences for sure, and other things play into the pressure too. Like having immigrant parents or grandparents, or families who survived huge trauma or oppression. The pressure to become something, to use the opportunities afforded by the sacrifice of past generations, that can be a LOT of pressure on kids finding their way through life.
Yeah, fitting in is all well and good, but maybe that square peg in the round hole you’re trying to fit into actually sucks all kinds. I know who I am. I just need to get there quicker.
I'm massively impressed at how well-spoken and natural Kumail sounds in interviews. You can tell a lot of people interviewed are nervous, and sometimes you can tell that they're kind of following a script, but Kumail really does a great job of balancing humor and genuine thought in this interview. I could listen to him talk forever.

I blame my parents. Soon as I realised kids found my impressions of my parents accents funny (punjabi-arab and Jamaican), I settled into the role of class clown but I was also a nerd so used to pass exams without even bothering.
im literally watching this whilst ima at Uni, in my first year, only about 2 months in. i definitely haven't found who i am but i'm realising that i'm not some sort of alien for the first time, that everyone around me is human and that i'm doing pretty well on my own, i'm not struggling but i still haven't found myself.
I love that at about 1:40, Conan repeat's Oogway's statement to Sifu: "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it"

Yeah, I’m turning 50 next month and still haven’t figured myself out yet. Good thoughts from interesting minds.
Here's my 33 year old ass working at a grocery store and having no idea what to do with my life. I think to relate to both of them though in the sense that I love comedy and people have been telling me I should pursue it, but also I have a lot of self doubt and just kind of don't see it being a reasonable thing to pursue. Also I'm like half Irish and ginger so that's something.
"[A] reasonable thing," is usually the beginning and end of creativity. Go do something interesting that you'll learn and grow from-- that'll serve you and the world well.
The people around you is what matters in life. Don't say no to them if they ask you to hang out. If it doesn't go against your morals.
I sat in a 2 million dollar house alone on the beach. I felt miserable. Once the house was full of friends and family I realized I needed them. That's where the value in life came from.
If you're so afraid of failure, you will never succeed. You have to take chances.

I loved this so much. I do wonder if I make a question to the Team Coco if they would respond? I'm just wondering if Conan chose the name of the podcast "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend" himself? I find it so genius and funny because one of the things I've concluded/ thought about podcast creators is: Why would someone start a podcast? Well perhaps one good reason would be because they feel kind of lonely and would like to get in touch with a lot of people... So that's why I think the title is so genius and hilarious (and also very honest if that's true hehe). Great show. New fan of this podcast.

I thought I knew myself pretty well, for ages, but it wasn't till my 40s that I understood some fundamental things that had informed everything else, all along. It was like draining a bathtub, if the bathtub were full of pain and confusion. I'm still miserable but at least now I know why. ;-)

Why are the comments here so negative ? Conan has had less funny guests on his show and Kumail is actually funny. I don’t know why people want to attach him for being funny. He is funny. Silicon Valley was funny, his stand up is funny, his guest appearances on talk shows are funny, he was the funniest character in Eternals, why are people surprised that people find him funny? Sounds like your hatred for other aspects of him seem to bias you against thinking he’s funny. You know who I found unfunny and just loud, Bill burr but i bet the same people here hating on Kumail somehow think that Bill is just a breath of fresh air.
It sounds like you have a more milquetoast sense of humor, I truly don’t mean that as an insult. In my opinion, Kumail is funny the way the ‘funny guy’ in an office is funny.
His humor is very safe and baseline. It’s all preference, some people like bland food others like spicy.
Bill is self-aware, that's why it's hard to hate him even if you don't find him funny. This Kumail guy got juiced up for 1 mediocre marvel movie and now acts like he's been the leading man his entire career.

Bill Burr to you may come across as self aware but to me he comes across as entitled and a whiny complainer with nothing interesting to add of value. He heavily relies on just saying something contreversial that’s shock value to make it seem like he’s some genius who is saying how “people really think.” There’s no nuisance and no real comedy or punchline just him yelling something to the abyss. Also Kumail doesn’t act like he’s a leading man and but his career has had a boost, you’d have to be blind not to see that, a movie he wrote and starred in got nominated for an Oscar even before the Eternals and he’s now trying a dramatic role as a lead, you seem to be upset that he’s successful and that he’s acknowledging the very obvious fact that he successful. He’s not claiming that he’s some comedy king or Tom Hanks, but he’s acknowledging that his career is widening and is coming out with new projects. Anything else you seem to feel about him seems more of a projection of your insecurity.
I really both of the comedians that you mentioned however I don't see why you have to put down one comedian to make the other better. They have different styles but are both quite funny imo.

In a world that is connected positively, the family is the basic unit of connection. A reality where humanity is a mass of isolated individuals is unsustainable because there will be no connections between people and society will disintegrate just as any organism disintegrates into the smallest elements when it dies.
Therefore, the family will be the basic unit where people cultivate positive connections. Since people are becoming increasingly individualistic, the family will be the place where people learn to embrace diversity rather than fight against people who hold different views. People will learn that just as our body exists thanks to different cells and organs working together for the sake of the body, different people who work together for the sake of the family enable the success of the family.
From the family unit, people will take their lessons to the community, from the community to the city, from the city to the state, to the country, and finally to the entire world. The key, therefore, to successful relationships in tomorrow’s world, lies not only in connections, but in connections between different people for a common goal, where the differences between them ensure their success and make their mutual dependence imperative, and even welcome.
