An SDPD Detective was on her way into work when the male driver of the Toyota RAV4 passed her at a high rate of speed. As he took the westbound exit to Hwy 94 from the southbound SR-15, she predicted "he wasn't going to make the turn" and was correct when he crashed and flipped the vehicle.
He hit the guardrail and took out the freeway ramp's metering light. She stopped to help him and realized he was heavily intoxicated. She made an attempt to detain him, and he resisted and fought with her before running away.
He made his way onto city streets where he was found by officers and arrested at 33rd St & C St. He was transported to a local hospital for his heavy intoxication. The Detective was not injured.
Drunk driving will continue to be commonplace until it is taken seriously, not as a revenue stream.
A fine based system isn't a deterrent. It's an inconvenience. It is intended to punish the poor and allow the wealthy to commit a crime without being impacted. Politicians will never address the issue because it would impact them and their families. They would no longer be able to buy their way out of their crime. The system works perfectly for them.
The first DUI conviction should result in one consecutive week in jail with no excuses or bogus doctor's notes. The fines they pay should go to pay for their incarceration, not a special interest program.
The second DUI conviction should result in one consecutive month in jail.
Nobody should be allowed to be employed by the government after getting a DUI.
Attitudes will change really fast when you can't put your problem on a credit card or call mom to pay your fine.

Drunk drivers who kill somebody often have prior DUI convictions. What is this obsession with driving all night and drinking beers bought at convenience stores?? This guy's BAC has got to be close to 0.30, and he's going to keep doing it. We're not supposed to be stinking drunk ALL THE TIME, mi hijo.

That transition ramp is one of the craziest in town. It's difficult to take when you're driving sober.
That’s because all drivers want to be first by not letting others pass….. & that’s from driving sober. So it’s better to change lanes at the 1/2 mile marker in the direction of travel, slow down at a maximum speed of 65, change lanes, & then pick up speed again.
It was built when there was less traffic, people drove a lot slower, and more respectful.

There are worse but it is very safe if you drive the speed indicated. Drive like a moron and you end up like this clown.

Lesson learned.. ALWAYS wait for another badge to show up before you attempt to hold any drunk or high subject against their will.

They used to have court ordered ignition locks that people convicted of DUI have to blow in. But of course the drunks figured out ways to defeat that device.
