The music is performed here by Musiciens du Palais Royal, Luang Prabang.

This is my first taste of Lao classical music. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it certainly hasn't disappointed! I love the sounds of the traditional instruments, each of which blend so beautifully together. Thank you for this. What a rich and vibrant culture.

It’s a pretty nice place, especially the temples. My family came from the more poor side with stone homes with wooden windows and being a middle class American really put me back in reality.
Love the authenticity of Lao classical music and the photos really captured the true essence of Laos.

This is EXTREMELY similar to thai music and I think it’s beautiful and it hits close because I play thai instruments :)
a lot of thai culture is based off laos culture since the land and some people stole it. ever since they've stole some of our aspects.

It's traditional Khmer music brought to Lan Xang by the courtship of Jao Fa Ngum and Khmer princess Keo Kanya. Real traditional Lao music is Lum.. With the acoustic pin guitar that the Tay Nung/Zhuang use as well. But modified. And the Khaen which the Tai Dam, Tai Daeng, Tai Don or Kow( white) play as well. But it's fantastic when both the Khmer instruments is played with the Lao Phu Tai ancestral instruments in Lum music.. Rhythmic intergration!!
Composed by a Laotian, you can definitely say it is Laotian. Although I do agree with culture mixing, this is not a traditional Khmer composition.

What about the Lao Loum and Lao Isan's; I thought the Khaen is played mostly by them.
We have almost the same tradition so the khamer have it own version and the laotian have to own version even it have the same style though

It seems like a common question, but I've produced a series of short films for the Bank of Lao on responsible financial management for Lao families and we're looking for some traditional music as part of the soundtrack. It is non-profit. Is it possible to use this song or others?
If, as you say you have produced a series of films for the Bank of Laos - maybe you could ask them to buy the cd's which are available in Laos. I had to pay for the recordings myself. So I do not give you permission to use the soundtracks .
