I saw Wu Man performing with the Silk Road Ensemble in Fairfax, Virginia earlier this month.... The instrument, the sound, the PERFORMER! Beautiful, mesmerizing and unforgettable! ❤❤❤
Until last week, totally unaware of Wu Man, but since seeing the film "The Music of Strangers," I can't hear enough of her music. Brilliant musician and artist.
@@Ori0987 Some classical musicians do, some don't. You'll never see a symphony where not every player has the music in front of them, but a concerto/sonata/whatever kind of solo, sure. Classical musicians usually memorize solos(like this one), but not ensemble music.
That is a really interesting technique the way her hands move to play the fast notes. And the hand movements in general. Really amazing performance and unique instrument
As a young man I liked to watch the television show entitled Hee Haw, in one part of the show Roy Clark with Buck Owens would play stringed instruments together. They called it Picking and Grinning, but with Wu Man I'd call her performance Picking and Feeling because you can see her picking but at the same time you can also see her feeling it as she plays her Pipa instrument. 🎶
Twist the two strings and push at the same time, than you can make this metal sound effect. It's a playing skill widely used for depicting ancient war battle in Pipa music.
And yeah...also to mention...here Madam Wu has done this ornamentation using the gap between the sixth upper fret and the first fret of lower group of fret
i love the way she’s so into the piece too, you can just see the joy in her expression
she got that fire right here.

@@jasonhuang6078 the score dates from Qing dynasty so it’s not a modern composition. The rhythm and the structure of the piece is clearly not modern.

A lot because the vibration lasts longer too :)

She’s a virtuoso. The number of techniques she has under command is breathtaking.
Chinese instruments are so beautifal!!! Love from ireland
Thank you! And so are Irish instruments!
@@xiaolongc5009 thanks very much :)
So are Irish instruments!
Love Ireland from China❤️❤️❤️
I like her attitude while playing
She plays it with such levity and playfulness and looks like she's really enjoying it. I love watching artists enjoy themselves in their art.
I only wonder why videos with her have so few views...She is pure genius! Maestro of this instrument!
It's probably because a lot of people don't know the name of Eastern instruments. Even if people love their sounds.
What a beautiful sounding instrument and a lovely performance!
Until last week, totally unaware of Wu Man, but since seeing the film "The Music of Strangers," I can't hear enough of her music. Brilliant musician and artist.
the piano is more difficult
Pipa is so cool. It sounds woody and bright; it's versatile and percussive.
White Snow in Spring,
What a lovely thing.
陽春白雪
there's more than just classical music from the west. The East has its own very well documented pieces too.
Thanks, we couldn’t have figured that out without you
Leahcim Olrac yeah, and people mean traditional eastern classical instruments when they say “classical music”
Western classical music is plagued with elitist and snobbish attitudeds
@@googleuser3163 like who?
@Edmund true, in India "Ghazals" were largely only known to the elite
And she never needed a music sheet to remember all the notes. Now that is real talent
Lotus Flower don’t a lot of musicians do that?
Most people do except for classical musicians.
Even then, classical musicians still memorize their pieces for the most part

It’s actually really easy lol. You just need to sync with the music and it’ll stick with you. Unless you blank out like me :)
Can confirm, this is a Wuman
BAHAHAHHA
I’m so proud of being half Chinese.
The Wu Man's a genius. She fuses western and eastern tonality into a new global sound!
HAHAHAHAHAH I WAS SEARCHING FOR THIS JOKE

Such perfection needs worshipping
Breathtaking performance.

What was that at 2:45? it was funny but cool, ho do you play it?
