I get the concept behind silence, but I don't think people get that your silence doesn't hurt them either, they turn around and use that to further paint you as antisocial, "crazy", weird, scared etc etc
Yeah remaining silent can be effective in dealing with randoms, but if it's a family member, coworker etc etc someone you have to see and deal with on a regular basis, staying silent can actually do more harm than good.

    • @Sndy_hook_was_fake
      @Sndy_hook_was_fake 2 місяці тому +18

When you constantly bite your tongue and stay silent with people you've gotta deal with regularly, that also teaches them they can KEEP doing it, and believe me they definitely will for as long as you let them think they can get away with it.

    • @Sndy_hook_was_fake

The absolute best thing you can do is to tell them their words and actions are feeling very disrespectful/offensive, and watch how easy they are to spot with their go to response
      "I'm not disrespecting you"
Which is another tactic they use to invalidate YOUR feelings. As if them simply saying they're not disrespecting you somehow trumps your feelings of actually feeling disrespected.

Getting angry and emotional gives the other person the opportunity to argue and dismiss said emotions, essentially you're giving them the power to validate/invalidate them. You can't argue with silence, you can't downplay it either.
Silence is powerful because it sends a message that 'you're no longer have the priviledge of knowing my emotions'. A king does not concern himself with the opinions of the common peasantry.

That's her territory, that's what she's good at, you'd just give her a win. Your power is in your self-respect and your self-respect lies with your choice of staying away. Doesn't matter if you're good at it and you'd pull it off and change the dynamic and she's now your side chick, because you'd feel weak for giving in anyways. Plenty of girls out there. This is exactly the conversation I had with a client of mine last week. They were dealing with someone who constantly disrespected them, and the need to react felt overwhelming. When they finally chose silence, they saw the power in walking away without engaging. Your explanation of silence as strength is spot on, and the emotional growth that comes from not needing to prove oneself to others is life-changing. Truly, you captured the essence of self-respect and peace in such a profound way. This is a must-watch for anyone struggling with toxic people.

It only works if they actually have morals and feelings. If they are a narcissist and you won't even notice your silence because they're only focused on themselves and you you only exist to them to provide fuel. You mean as much to them as the chair sitting in the room

I disagree.. I just got out of a very long-term relationship with a covert narcissist… the worst type.. I completely went silent no contact with all the derogatory comments, insults.. that put her even more in a narcissistic rage.. then it turned into 700+ text messages. Wishing me dead… the more I remain silent the more she just cracked away in little pieces. It was brilliant.! Never waste your time and energy below your station in life.. make them feel insignificant like they never mattered.. that’s what silence does.. it hits back with bone crushing intensity.

Silence is there for you, not them. They're probably relieved they don't have to deal with you anymore and likely don't give you a second thought. They might remember you at a moment when your presence could've been beneficial, but that is fleeting. Silence is there only to help you move on, nothing else.

I believe you are right..but if you silence and you stay is much worse. Presence is Power. The presence in silence is even worse!

@@ΠανωραίαΚόκκινου-ι4σ Perhaps, but my personal view is that silence is simply an unavoidable consequence when there's nothing left to say. I do have a huge problem with it... Silence means that misunderstandings will take hold, perhaps talking things out is the correct solution and will lead to better conclusions... Obviously, a moment comes, when you feel like you've said everything you have to say, and silence is the only option left. When that moment comes, silence signifies an ending, for both sides.

Okay. I've seen people leave comments on videos before saying something to the effect of "I needed to hear this tonight" or "You just saved me by saying what I was feeling" or "I was on the verge, but you pulled me back". And I've always just shaken my head at them and almost looked down at them for it (perhaps arrogantly, but I think more out of ignorance than anything). And now I'm one of those. I don't believe in anything supernatural, but the timing of finding this video completely randomly couldn't have been more fortuitous. Thank you for sharing it. Definitely hit home for me this evening.

      Ghosting is cowardly.
DO tell them you're walking away.
      DON'T discuss it.
They need to know you're leaving. They know why! So don't negotiate with them; some do try that!
The last "friend" I cut contact with, I simply texted him, _I won't bother you anymore. I'm deleting your number. Have a good life._
He waited two weeks to the day, and tried to get back into my life.
That's when I stopped replying to his messages and calls. After a week of it, he got the point.
Point is, you should tell them you're done. Ghost afterwards.

As a young individuel I was often taunted by my teachers "you are antisocial" "you have no friends" "why are you this way?" .. I knew I just did not wanted to be bothered ... I like my own company and choose this over most people, this do not make me antisocial, it make me value my time and worth.. to go through life depending on others are sure way to på frail.. the one who says the fewest words often have to most to say.

Oh. My. God! My ex abandoned me (after 5 years together) the day I returned from my parent’s funeral - no explanation, no closure, nothing. He just disappeared from my life. So bad was the trauma of it all (plus a 2-years legal battle with my family) it sent me into menopause aged 42. I lost most of my hair, my trust in men, my belief in relationships and my faith in love. Watching this video has answered so many questions for me, thank you. I’m cured.
