Debra, that thing is a MONSTER! Way back when - in the 90's, let's say - before I had a PC and was first getting into plants and their cultivation, I didn't know about the giant species of aloe. Then, about 20 years ago, I started growing succulents and had a rock garden behind my apartment in Shreveport, LA where it can get quite cold (into the teens) in the winter, I planted some long leaved aloes that must have been quite cold hardy. They multiplied like CRAZY. I was constantly digging up "pups" (offsets) and giving them to my friends at work. Now, I'm retired in Lake Charles, LA and my gardening is restricted to pots on my sunny patio. It's much warmer down here (subtropical). It's Jan. 10, 2024 and we haven't even had a light freeze yet. I'm thinking of getting a large variety of aloe (either ferox or marlothii), keeping it in terra cotta pot near a heated room where I can scoot it in case of an even light freeze. Great channel, BTW. I'm a subscriber, so keep the good videos rolling! 🪴🌵

A sheet/s of cardboard and a tarp under the root ball will reduce friction and add control and lift to the mass and protect the leaves
from dragging on the rough pavement. Beautiful specimen and a great installation!!

A.ferox is a good choice..big,but not a tree Aloe, and without the blood mess a A. marlothii does to people..like me once years ago. Tripped and fell on it...grabbed it to to keep from falling in
a face plant-. instead a plant got me! You should use Aloidendron congoensis Laura also. Not a huge tree Aloe. Maybe 10-15' tall, nice with a rich apricot flowers..as in right now in my front yard.

Very cool video! how old is this scarlet? and it is possible to grow at home such a size if half a year is on the street and half a year in the room!

    Hi Laura, great work.
Can you talk about the aloes that are still in the cans on your right side by the wall and window?

I have 4 giant aloe ferox. One of them "crashed" with the weight of the top heavy growth a couple of years ago. I hacked the trunk back to the base of the leaves and plopped it in another location hoping for the "the best". Low and behold it has rooted and looks great. No blooming so far. I want to be proactive and do the same to the others as the trunks are tall and the leaf growth is getting heavy and unbalanced. What do you think?

What kind of soil does ferox grow in ? I’m growing from seeds and they seem to be struggling in soil made for succulents

Can you also give me an idea what to group with aloe Camperi and aloe Cameronii for the third element in a xeroscape full sun area?

Your work is amazing as always. Anybody know what the name of the plant is at 3:31 on the left had side of the screen? Look like a hedgehog or sea urchin. ua-cam.com/video/qUrmvRlw2iQ/v-deo.html
