My 2nd grade daughter has adhd but she is hitting all her markers and doing well. Her last school tried to push her into an IEP and I left that school. She is doing really well and I have considered a 504 but not if she is doing well. She loves this new school and being IN class and connecting with everyone. No need and I don’t want her to think that life will always bend over backwards for her
Wish I discovered you years ago. My son is nearly 11, diagnosed ADD five years ago. You have explained SO much in clear terms, thank you. I am loving these videos I am learning so much that will help my son be his best self.
Thanks Ryan! I agree. I am a special ed. teacher & my middle school son was just diagnosed with ADD. Accommodations should foster growing independence whenever possible or at least work towards that over time. Well said!
I am dealing with the unique situation where I am fighting for LESS supports. My kid was misdiagnosed with autism when she actually has adhd. She has been in an ABA based self-contained integrated class since preK and I want her mainstreamed w pull our service bc I feel they are limiting her exposure to the world and essentially holding her back from growing and adjusting. They say its bc she is 2yrs behind academically and noncompliant to answering questions orally. Any advice?
I would tell them if she's "noncompliant" to answering questions orally than their BCBA needs to figure out what the function of the behavior is OR they can have her evaluated for selective mutism.
@@ADHDDude per my request, they are actively completing a functional behavioral assessment with a corresponding behavioral intervention plan. Thankfully the BT has a background with ADHD, so I am hopeful. Personally I feel anxiety comes into play. She can be perfectionalistic and if she believes she may answer incorrectly she will avoid answering all together rather than give an incorrect reply. I am working with her on asking for help rather than saying I don't know.
wow this is exactly what im going through right now. The school diagnostician said my son had a learning disability and autism, got an independent evaluation done with child psychologist and he said he had adhd. I am trying to get him out of the unit as well. I made the mistake of going to the meeting alone, and I felt bullied into agreeing with keeping him in the unit. Going to have another meeting soon, this time im taking a person with experience with me.

Thank you so much! Really glad you're finding them helpful. My videos for kids are in the Dude Talk playlists and most are geared to your son's age.
Do you have examples of how to help while making them independent? How do we prepare vs accommodate?

In NJ there are some IEP friendly 2 year schools that will help with transitioning

Ugh! I thought IEP follows through college. Would love to know the best accommodations suggestions.
I’m here. I am one of the only people I know who gets accommodations with adhd I feel like I’m slow like I am lol but like I feel like I’m dumb
anyone looking for help is never dumb :) give yourself some credit!

Do you have children? Are they ADHD?
I have plenty of videos here where I share my story.
