North already mentioned it but unless both halves of the main bearings have oil holes someone installed the bearings wrong. Probably be a good idea to check the rod bearings to then. If the mains are not getting oil then the rods would not either.
I just stuck them on "temporarily" so I could do the compression test. I'm thinking I'm going to go through the rest of the bearings and check them and then put some assembly lube and tighten them.
Maybe that piece of metal that looked like a piece of wire is from the bearings. And the hole in the bushing needs to align with the oil journal in the block.

Make sure to torque the bolts in the right patter and double check all your bolts

Is there some kind of oil system problem? Was the oil just not changed enough?
Yes that’s what I’m wondering as well, definitely had enough oil, but was VERY dirt!
Turning into quite an expensive repair Randy. Is it still worth doing?
Hopefully should be worth doing, I think we only have $500 into it so far, and if we did have to do a full rebuild it be another $800 or so
