I think the most impactful things in this video is the measurement and quality control. I would recommend finding the max cleareances where the balis still feel good, and and designing measurable tolerances to ensure you can consistently maintain that. Good work!

A concept I learned early on as a mechanic is "fail faster". Because the faster you hit that fail point, the faster you can learn why you failed, and get back in to try again. Loving the progress with these so far, would love to see a comparison of prototype 1 to finished product when you are done with them.

I have a lot of respect for you and your design process! You have put so much effort into doing this and I can’t wait for the final result. I’m an engineering apprentice and we are always told ‘don’t assume anything no matter how small’ so to see a mistake like the screw chamfer is reassuring.

  • @billstrahan4791

Awesome update! Watching your contour pass where the end mill is hitting full engagement briefly made me think of a change I made recently that really helped with titanium and stainless. (Aluminum lets you get away with almost anything!) Look under the linking or passes tab on your contour op, and play with feed optimization. Basically it lets you reduce the feed within a distance of a specific angular change. So long sweeping contours shouldn't need anything changed, but on inside 90 degree corners, or in your case it looked like it was about a 160 degree change of direction, you can set a reduced feed rate. This helped a ton, especially in the hard metals. Try it for those contour passes like you have on your blade.
To see what's being affected, simulate the contour path in Fusion but switch the tab on the simulation to info. You'll be able to see the feed rates during the simulation and you can see where it slows down and speeds back up as it enters and exits that tight corner.
    Good luck!

I watch your videos from time to time and just wanted to pop in and say how much I enjoy the content.
I'm inspired by what you've developed in the Baliscissor design, as well as the progress you've made in the fabrication process. Though I know little of machining work, it seems as though you learn a lot from each step of the process and can apply these lessons effectively.
The videos themselves are a joy to watch, I appreciate the effort you put into the filming and narration. From my point of view everything you try to communicate comes though clear and concise.
    Cheers!

I've got one tip for you. If you have problems with damaged screw heads ditch your Wera Hex Plus Allen keys.
They just damage screws in lightning speed.
Try out a good set of PB Swiss or Wiha keys, they aren't rounded and are much less aggressive and don't damage your screws in the cost of weras Tool life.

Thank you for the videos. To me, it's fascinating to see how the baliscissors evolved over time. I myself experienced sacrificing big chunks of work and progress for the sake of simplification and actually making the thing good at what it's supposed to do. It's especially annoying because the end product looks like something you could have developed in just a few months, sometimes even weeks. I deeply respect your patience and wish you the best for a soon final prototype. Also interested in buying one :)

Been following you for quite some time now and I love seeing the engineering process you go through. I’m just a high school student but your videos really encourage me to experiment and I have a lot of respect for it. Definitely plan on buying my own pair!

As a student majoring in Industrial Design, I really appreciate hearing your thoughts about the design process and what you've learned through each new video. You've probably taught me more about actual applied concepts than my uni has lmao
