Well done for quickly deciding to go right to stop on sand hill instead of a tree ! Defo saved his car
It is not a good decision, they could have collided with each other and generated a much bigger accident
taking the curve without braking inside it would have been enough... this is the problem when you do this that the car loses traction, you should never brake inside a curve
When people think their car doesn't understeer on a dusty road
And when people brake inside of the corners
@@mariovojnichajduk6947 that depends on if its fwd or not
@@mariovojnichajduk6947 what do you mean break inside of corners. shifting weight to the front is not wrong in a understeery car.
@@yolly1988 yea highly as well as front/back weight ratio
@@danielb916 yea that would be in ideal scenario, but on dusty road main thing is to not lose grip (that means brake hard before corner and light inside of)
In my opinion, the driver with the cam did safe it pretty good. Instead of trying to get the curve on the left, he realised the understear and reacted very fast and correct.
I noticed that too, he made a pretty good decision
I've seen quite a few clips where people panic in such situations...Even I myself have had some close calls with understeer. Driver made a good choice there, and reacted fast too.
Everyone talking about understeer but that turn wasn't even sharp. He just followed his friend who apparently thought the tarmac section was done and the gravel section should begin. He's been watching WRC for sure.
Saved it? He panicked and grabbed a handful of brake because of target fixation. He could have easily made that corner but instead he focused too much on the car that left the road. He didn’t save the car from understeer because it wasn’t an issue, he was just lucky enough to stop.
In 1:07 you can hear the tyres when he turns the steering wheel so yes he saved it from understearing
I love the open door ding at the end lol. We all recognize that too well
Nice well done. Takes skill to steer along these kind of roads which the GTI driver didn’t have.
If that dude was RWD, he woulda died way before
The beauty of understeer.
and a very dumb driver with no talent
SaveTheRing GreenHell He did not understeer in the road. He was hitting the brakes, so Most of the Cars Weight was in the Front wheeels. He Had Lots of GRIP There, too much to understeer Seems Like He accidently Turmed right and then, after Leaving the Road, understeered.
He had understeer. A lot of it. Otherwise he could´ve opened the brake and take the corner.
Understeering doest make you turn the other way. It makes you continue moving forward instead of turning, because your frontwheels lose grip.
More likely he oversteered just a little bit and wanted to stabilize and then turned right and lost control ^^

Possibly the best live example of target fixation on UA-cam. One would think he'd do everything in his power to avoid a similar fate after he sees his buddy heading into the abyss,, and yet he consciously straightens the wheel and follows him straight off the road.
Thank god someone else sees it that way, I was like what the hell, you are literally about to rear end your friends car that is still in the process of crashing 😂
Hahahahaha i thought exactly the same, you don't need to ridge chaser him into the dirt
he was clearly understeering because the road was dirty you smart ass. if he didn't straighten out the wheel he would have gone off the road a little later and maybe hit something. he reacted correctly because by straighening out the front wheels he had more grip for braking. if he had kept steering he would have understeered into a tree or some shit. people really always think they are better drivers than people in fail but if this would happen to you you would probably keep understeering into a tree. smh.
@@Cosmictrigger01 true, the gti was understeery as fuck. the road was tooo dirty. he had like 80 kmh. on a clean road this corner would have been doable. he should have tucked more to the middle line at the entry tho and used more brake force. the front didnt have any weight at all.
He realised he wasn’t going to make the turn so come off rather than crash into trees
I'm surprised the camera car lasted this long with such messy hand placement on the wheel
The ending and that music 😂😂
Why did you drive towards the crash when it was taking place?
Kidyugi1 Target fixation
Q: Why did the camera car follow? Perhaps target fixation?
A: Attentive viewers will notice that I first intended to turn left, but suddenly straightened out the wheel. I entered the corner faster than expected, and realized that I may not have enough available grip to clear the corner. The next best option was to brake in a straight line and use the runoff area. The GTI’s path was already set and I wasn’t going to rear-end it.
Hhahahahaahqah fuckin liar. You said you wanted a good footage but now,you said you was going to crash like him.

When you own a GTI Golf and you think you're Sebastien Loeb. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank God Loeb drove a Citroën.
Ah yes, the age old classic, brake as hard as you can while turning onto dirt road. My favourite type of roulette.
Either one of two things 1.Back end slides the tiniest amount and he panics and over corrects a slide that didn't even need correcting in the first place.
Or 2. He thought he wasn't gonna make it and try'd to escape but just made it worse for himself anyway.
The way how driver with camera holds his steering wheel tells me everything about his driving experience.
I'd recommend looking at the other videos in that case. The angle here doesn't show hand position well
Think also to how the other driver was holding the steering wheel

Great dude! You find the shortcut to reach the finish line
I hear everybody talking about understeer, but, he cut a hard right in the middle of a soft hairpin turn. Understeer wouldn't have snapped him in that direction. Either they really over corrected, or more likely in my opinion, assumed the gravel was part of the road, then had to bail even harder when he saw the metal gate on the gravel path.
Word of advice to your friend or the person who crashed their car, always look and be prepared as far ahead as you can. If you only focus on what's right in front of you before going into a corner, chances are this will happen again. Stay safe my friend!

Stupîd comment. Even at normal speed you can make mistakes or have this kind of incidents. FWD cars are known to be slippy on the front wheels. Just a bit of water can cause this kind of slides without even going fast. If you don't like touge that's fine, just don't watch. Your comment just make you look like someone who know nothing about cars.
Very nice video. Best regards from Bosnia 🇧🇦
for furture reference, dont follow the car in front of you, follow the road, following the guy in front makes a crash go from a simple car wreck to a casualty really fast
Rule #1. KNOW THE ROAD. Run through it a couple of times 'quickly', you'll get an understanding of what is around blind corners. Looks like it was both of these guys' first time around as they tried doing nearly 100 mph around a blind tight bend. Most of the time you can't save it, so you have to learn to prevent it.

This is caused by braking and turning at the same time. However I think the second car bailed early... the car was probably going to manage that corner, with a tiny slip
nope this is caused by not knowing how to drive cause abs nullifies the turning while braking problems🤣🤣🤣
@@raven4k998No Abs doesnt. Take into consideration that the weight shifts during negative and lateral G forces.
@@ngprt just say no🤣
Shit dude I feel for him. My back roads can still surprise you from time to mine even with experience and I almost totaled my Celi that way. My buddy has an MR2 and he tried a little bit of lane swallowing on a turn when suddenly a Genesis Sedan I had passed earlier took a corner super quick, throwing my body off. He had to turn off towards the shoulder of the road, the mud in there turned him around and he slid backwards off to the very side of the ditch. It was scary, and he was just inches away from tumbling into a horizontal tree forest to possibly his death. Since then I've stopped doing lane swallowing and considered getting spotters, and thankfully my friend and his MR2 are ok.
The Touge isn't very popular for a reason: It IS popular, it's just that 1/3 of the people who are into it are still alive
Looks like this was their first time on this road too. Atleast know the road before you go full throttle
One part of me says , keep it on the track , (i go to the nurburgring if i have the need for some speed) but i can understand that if you dont have a track nearby this is the best option.

Hey guys, looks like this video has been getting _much_ more attention than I had anticipated, and I’ve been noticing numerous repeat questions/comments that I can’t respond to individually. I’ve compiled a Q&A to help everyone better understand what’s going on in this video: *(See **_"Read more"_** to expand)*
*Q:* _Why did the lead car turn right?_
*A:* They understeered while turning left, and overcorrected to the right to avoid hitting the tree.
*Q:* _Why did the camera car follow? Perhaps target fixation?_
*A:* Attentive viewers will notice that I first intended to turn left, but suddenly straightened out the wheel. I entered the corner faster than expected, and realized that I _may_ not have enough available grip to clear the corner. The next best option was to brake in a straight line and use the runoff area. The GTI’s path was already set and I wasn’t going to rear-end it.
*Q:* _You are endangering innocent people / Stay in your own lane_
*A:* I understand why this looks dangerous without context - however a scouting run was done to ensure nobody else was in the area. As for crossing yellows, there was no instance where anyone could have been on the other side. The only blind corner was the last right turn, which no crossing was done. It’s a controversial issue, so I’m willing to discuss this as long as you’re being reasonable.
*Q:* _You’re a terrible driver with no skill._
*A:* I’m still far from where I want to be as a driver, but I’m always working towards making myself better. Anyone with similar goals can at least understand that. This was one major mistake between hours upon hours of practice, and is not representative of how I would usually drive. If you watch my other videos and still think I’m terrible, that’s fine with me.
If you’ve read this far and want clarification (or need to tell me something), I’m willing to have a civil conversation. This channel is much more than idiots crashing, and I encourage any driving enthusiast to take a second look. We take a deeper look into vehicle dynamics and technical driving, which I am aware is ironic to say here. Stay safe out there, unlike the content of this video 👌

Ridge Chaser : " OH NO THE CAR. LOOK AT THE DAMAGE!!!!!!!!!! "
Tbh props to the guy driving lead
He realized he went into that corner to fast and instead of planting the car into a tree he aimed for the grass embankment.
He should have braked sooner, ride out the turn and gradually give it gas. I also think he got pulled in by one side of the dirt road, seeing how that lane was very narrow and probably had a considerable height displacement between the asphalt curb and the dirt. A turn like that on a road that narrow... He was probably pressing his luck. Not to mention FWD is notorious for the weight shift powerslide and that probably made his car WANT to go right when the rest of the car was supposed to go left.
Like I said, early braking can help you prepare yourself to take a turn a lot better than late breaking. Unless you have a RWD/Torque Split AWD and know how to drift, brake turning is a bad idea for FWD.
As far as saving it... If he had been able to retain control over his steering at the very least, he could have probably turned it towards the spot you stopped at and worst case scenario break through the gate and need a new bumper/hood.
Mistfire333 wise up.
if you knew anything about going fast and safe, you would know that you never want to drift.
drift for fun yea, but not for racing.

@@BySixa yeah if I'm racing someone and they start drifting corners, I will pass them easily. And they will most likely spin out eventually or pop a tire. Despite what Initial D has told us, grip is usually faster, unless it's snowing or you're on a dirt road.
