ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a UA-cam channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on UA-cam, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're "long-timers" who tend to hit the road for weeks or months at a time, while maintaining a sticks-and-bricks home in Utah.
We'll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

I remember that day. Payne Stewart was my favorite golfer I wore knickers to be like him.. Am sorry for your wife's friend..
That rock was a great tribute to all the people on the plane..
Thank you Timothy we appreciate that.
I remember that crash. Loss of life, but they did not feel a thing. They fell asleep.
What a way to go! And what beautiful farmland for an ending.
Indeed.
So sorry to hear about the loss of Patricia’s friend. I can only imagine her sadness and the emotions of being at the site. It was definitely a good thing to go there and hopefully get some kind of closure.
Very moving moments in this part of the video.
Aberdeen looked like a cool little town far from all the trouble going on.
Looks like you tipped the host again - you got yourself a nice little corner spot!
Perfect little campground for a young family.
Thanks Marc
You're most welcome, Ram, and thank you as always for watching and commenting. This meant a lot to Patricia, and it definitely fit what she was looking for. And we were actually surprised at how much we enjoyed the Aberdeen area.
What a lovely area...and TRAINS!
We love them too. They make great videography subjects.
We are South Dakota natives and really enjoyed this Mark. Our heartfelt condolences to your wife. We remember the drama of the flight well. I'm a retired flight nurse and we followed it closely. Thanks for the great videos.
Aberdeen is a beautiful city.
Thank you very much, Steven.
I had no idea that you wife knew the co-pilot. I knew almost immediately what y'all were going to talk about as soon as you mentioned the town and a plane. I remember this accident well. So sorry for her loss. We will make sure to put this on our list.
Thank you, Michael.
What a sad story. So sorry for your loss.
Sad, but after 21 years stopping there was oddly reassuring.
Very touching video... Great way to honor them for sure. And as always excellent video and story. ❤️
Thank you very much as always, Chris. It meant a lot to Patricia to be able to visit that spot.
Watching this really make me realize how amazing Aberdeen is bc I’ve realized people often forget how amazing the place there in is so amazing
Side note: for anyone visiting I recommend seeing a show at the theater there fun to see and I think to be in I’m still trying to make it into a show and the red roster coffee house on Main Streets it’s an amazing place for everyone and the events are amazing
That's true Isabel, it's very easy to overlook a special qualities of a place that you are far too familiar with. Aberdeen is a very special place, and we enjoyed ourselves there immensely. Thanks for the tip!
Nice episode, tragic story. Looks like a nice RV park. I've saved it in my favorites if I get to that area.
Thanks as always, Tom!
I remember that day with Payne Stewart’s Learjet. My KC-135 tanker unit was involved in the refueling of the intercept F-16s. Sad day for sure.
Nice park. I had a lot of family that worked for Milwaukee road. Great video as always, thanks Marc!
That's cool about your family history, Stu. Thank you very much!
So glad Patricia had this opportunity to pay a heartfelt tribute to her dear friend. Thank you for sharing. You do such a nice job with your aerial shots and editing. Well done, Marc.
We appreciate that very much, John.
Great video! What a fantastic city park! My kids would love Storybook Land, goats, and wildlife. 😊
Thank you 🤗
So sorry for your loss Patricia. Prayers sent.
Nice to see Patricia on video , she still has that cute Quebec accent . She should do more videos with you.
Very nice park. I want Marks Jeep!!
As usual , a terrific video. Safe travels my friend.
JT
Thanks JT and Jo-Ann! I wish she'd do more, but she steadfastly refuses.

Buy her more wine , maybe that will help get her on camera more? LOL
@@scenicdriveways6708 if she drank, that might work. :D
Great job, as always!! I bet kids LOVE camping there!
Thank you Kristie! We can't imagine a kid who wouldn't.
Impressive as always Marc... thanks
Thank YOU as always Curt!
Sorry to hear about your friend, another great video, thank you
Thank you as always Scott, and thank you for watching!
Well done! I was born in Aberdeen and this video really highlights the best aspects of this wonderful place, and makes me want to go visit again. Thank you!
Thank you so much! You grew up in a wonderful place.
Wow what amazing places to go camp. Thanks for sharing the gems you find.
It's truly our pleasure Diane, thank you as always.
Another good informative video! Nice clean state
Indeed, Sharon. Thank you.
That place is super nice, and with a story book land, wow...very good video as usual 👏, so sorry about Patricia's friend, 😔, hope you had an ice cream 🍦.
"An" ice cream? OK, I had "an" ice cream only once a day. ;) Thank you Gary!
Thank you again for another great video. I’m so sorry about Patricia’s friend . I’m glad she was able to have closure . God Bless and safe travels .
Thank you very much John, and the same to you and yours.
That place looks fantastic, a little secret almost, great vid Marc.
Thanks John! 👍
Beautifully done. Thank you for sharing your private moment with us.
Thank you so much!
My last name is Hoffman and I grew up in Sanford Florida... Thanks for this video. Very well done.. 👊😊🇺🇸
Thank you Mark! I just can't imagine being Jon Hoffman, waking up that morning thinking that he's just going pheasant hunting, and by sunset his property is surrounded by media trucks and being combed over by the NTSB.
Great work on the video with lots of information
Appreciate that Barb, thank you!
Great job you all ways do epic work bro
Thanks as always bud!
well done, thanks Marc.
Thanks as always Joe!
Nice episode! So happy your wife got to visit the site for closure! Payne Stewart was a member of our church when this happened and The First Academy renames is it’s sports complex after him! Got to meet him once, great guy!! Great work as usual Grand Adventure!
Thanks Tom! Appreciate that, and thanks for sharing your story.
So touching. I am glad Patricia was able to visit the site. I remember that incident well. I was studying at the University of Nebraska at the time and the path flight was over Lincoln.
Thanks, it truly meant a lot to her.
My sincere Compassion for your wife. Great job on putting together a good story. Don
Thank you as always Don!
Great video Marc. We have lived in SD for 6 years and have never been to Aberdeen. We live in The Black Hills so it is quite a distance.
Thank you! It is quite a ways from the Black Hills, but if you made it part of a larger trip it would make sense. And that campground at Mina Lake is one of my favorites that I've seen anywhere.
Marc, that is an amazing park. Thanks for sharing. ( 9 days and counting from going full time.) Don
It's getting very close, Don!!
@@GrandAdventure Yes, signed contract to sell my house yesterday. Thank you Marc.
@@CowboyBikerAdventures congratulations!
Fun RV park. Love all the green! We are not in Kansas anymore Toto
But we'll be in Kansas later this summer! 😁
Wonderful job covering Aberdeen! You did miss Richmond Lake NE of Mina (great disc golf course) and Kunhert Arboretum just south of Melgaard Park. Fabulous job none the less! I hope you enjoyed Aberdeen!
We very much did enjoy the area, thank you very much. There are always things we'll miss, for we both work business hours M-F from the RV. That somewhat limits the time we have to explore an area, but we do our best for the week that we're there. The way we look at it, though, that always gives us a reason to return!
great video Gov. Noem should have you on the tourism board payroll, i remember that day very sad i hope your wife found some peace
She did indeed GXXX -- thank you very much.
Thanks for sharing this, Marc. Nice family RV Resorts are a part of the RV experience. Large sites, plenty of room, great amenities, great family environment. Sometimes it's just nice to crash at one of these places for a few days or a week before moving on.
Today I was checking out Thousands Trails because they are having a (Covid-19) sale on their Annual Pass through July 3rd... $100 off the regular price of $599. That may sound steep but for full time RV'ers and especially families, it is a steal.
Up to fourteen days free at any location. Full service, 30/50 amp. And you can stay as many times as you like for 14 days continuously throughout the year. It doesn't take long before you are way ahead of your normal costs.
Maybe not the think for causal weekend warriors. But really something to look at for full time RV'rs. Plus, these are RV resorts... much better service and lots of amenities.
However, not all Thousand Trails resorts are the same. Look before you leap. But many, perhaps even most are worth it.
Gord
Great perspective, Gord. And as much as we're boondockers at heart, we're finding that a person can get pretty used to this full-hookup thing, too.
We actually nearly took the leap and bought a Thousand Trails Annual Pass as we were finalizing our summer plans. At the time there were two things that dissuaded us:
1. At the time, most Thousand Trails parks were closed for COVID-19, and opening dates were uncertain. It was possible that we would be spending $500 (it was on sale then, too) plus a likely Trails Parks add-on, for absolutely nothing.
2. Our plans initially called for us to head through the Upper Midwest, where Thousand Trails has more of a presence. Once our route diverted south, it made far less sense.
That said, I suspect that when we do the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes en route to Quebec in a future season, thereby following through on what our plans for this season initially were, a Thousand Trails pass may well be in our future.
@@GrandAdventure Interesting comments, Marc. I understand your situation completely. They had a better sale on, back when you were looking at it, than they do now. But who's going to pay for something they can't use?
There's two ways to rest your eyes and your mind. One is in a pristine boondocking site. The other is in a well kept beautifully spacious RV resort with all the extras.
Gord
@@gorrdd agree completely. Because of our desire to get off the beaten path and away from everybody else as much as possible, we have always gravitated toward boondocking. Now that we are east of the Rockies for this summer we really have little choice but to be in campgrounds and RV parks. It's nice to not have to take a Navy shower (and for that matter, even to be able to shower everyday). It's nice to not worry about where our electricity is coming from. It's nice to not have to worry about filling the gray tank. I can't say that we have availed ourselves of many of the amenities available at each of these RV parks, but there's definitely something to be said for each style of camping.
@@GrandAdventure Indeed... great observations, Marc.
what a great rv park!
We loved it there, Mickey.
Heading to SD on Friday... Thanks for sharing 😊
Excellent! Have a safe and enjoyable trip.
The weather is getting great here in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Welcome to SD. Happy travels
Hey Marc, A very touching tribute... Very sad story. I remember that day well, I was working for CTV-News in Vancouver BC as the us airforce tracked the flight path and fighter jets closed in on the private Learjet before it crashed near Mina...
Thanks Marian. I was working from home that day with cable news on for background noise. As they tracked the plane and announced that it took off from Sanford I thought, "Could that be Stephanie? Nah, what are the odds?"
Nice. I like SD in summer.
It was wonderful. Our only other foray into South Dakota was in June 2018. At that time we encountered some pretty severe weather on a regular basis. Fortunately for us, this time we managed to avoid much of that.
I like the way you make your videos!
Interesting places that's nice to see!
Maybe we can add some of them to our next trip west.
Campground highlights as well.
Keep it up!
Keep it up? We certainly will, Ken! It's a thrill to hear that this may prove helpful to you on your future travels,
@@GrandAdventure We've driven to Sioux Falls,SD from Ohio in one shot.
We've always been in a rush to get to Yellowstone or Glacier. That limits your time for things along the way. You are creating a case for these different places. Instead of the hurrying to the Big Names Parks....interesting things can be found in westerly-middle America. AND no it's not fly over country, it's drive over country. Thanks Again.
@@kensterling8628 it's not just you, in our opinion that's a common RV'er affliction: head for the big-name destinations, overlooking stuff along the way or even stuff nearby those big-name destinations. Sometimes the latter are just as beautiful, but far less crowded. It's all about the journey.
Wore my home is where you park it shirt to the swap meet. Got lots of compliments..
I love it J!
Honored to come along.
Honored to have you there, Monty!
Sorry I'm late. I was exchanging a broken generator for a new one. Preparing to hit the road again soon. Thanks for your great videos!
You're most welcome anytime, Michelle, and congrats on the new genny!
Great video
Thank you as always, Sandra.
So sorry about your friend. I remember the crash. I was born in North Dakota.
We appreciate that, Sandra.
I’m glad Mrs GA got to pay her respects at that spot.
Thank you Kim, we're both also grateful that she was able to as well.
I am curious if any Scottish traditions are apparent in Aberdeen, S.D.? My grandfather's family came to the USA from the area around Aberdeen, Scotland. IThanks so much for this video. We are planning to head to this area in 2021. We will definitely add this to our list of places to see. :)
None that were apparent enough for us to notice. Hope you enjoy the area as much as we did!
Hi Marc,
Another great video!
I suppose it's too late to correct it now, but I noticed that when you were talking about the plane crash you mentioned *North* Dakota a couple times. No big deal, I just thought I'd mention it.
I'm glad to see you're still getting out there! We're planning to hit the road in early September as long as COVID-19 is under control.
Ack! I can't believe I did that! Oh well...what's done is done, no taking it back now. My brain works in strange ways sometimes. :D
Here's wishing you the opportunity to hit the road this September as planned.
Thanks Marc!
Yeah, no big deal. I know nothing about posting videos to UA-cam, but my brother has done some. I believe he told me that there's no way to go back and edit -- that all a person can do is delete the entire video and resubmit it. If I have that correct, it certainly isn't worth all that trouble.
If someone hadn't posted about it publicly, no one would know. ;-)
In all seriousness, if I had a way to contact you privately I would have done so.
It's very clear that you are in/near Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Your understanding of what your brother told you is correct. I watch...and rewatch...and rewatch episodes many times over before anyone ever sees a Premiere, and I often catch stupid stuff like that, re-edit and re-upload the video. But once it becomes public it's too late. And I appreciate you pointing it out, publicly or privately it doesn't matter, for it reminds me that I need to be more careful. I really do take our quality and accuracy seriously. So thank you, sincerely.
No problem.
It's obvious from your videos that you care a great deal about quality and accuracy. In fact, I can't recall ever noticing any other mistakes.
What a touching story....so sorry for your loss. We love following your adventures...especially the boondocking! My husband and I are hoping to hit the road next summer starting with part-time RVing and possibly going full time as we do some transitioning. I am writing a blog about the importance of stepping away from drama and spending time in nature...may I share your channel on my blog? You have some beautiful videos....thank you so much for sharing with all of us!!
It would be our honor for you to share it, thank you for asking. We'd love to get a link when you do! We appreciate your kind words, and wish you the best of success in your transition to more time RV'ing.
@@GrandAdventure thank you!! I will definitely provide the link to the blog post! Happy Travels!

It most certainly is, Lori.
Glad you loved Wiley Park it is a hidden gem, just fyi in your intro of the plane crash we are in SD not ND.
Thank you Eric! Yep, that was a slip of the tongue (and the brain).
Condolences to Patricia on the loss of her friend :(
Thank you Lisa. It's been 21 years, so the edge is definitely dull at this point.
My family is from Aberdeen.
Hope you'll pass the video along to them, Susan! It's a delightful area.
Will you be in South Dakota on the 4th? We will be home in Yankton just west of Vermilion. Would love to meet you guys. We park our RV at Meridian Bridge in South Yankton Nebraska.
it would have been wonderful to meet you, Steven, but our videos are a few weeks behind real-time to allow for production. We're presently in the Smoky Mountains of eastern Tennessee. Here's wishing you and yours a wonderful 4th!
Beautiful, peaceful place to live. Are there year round places to live in a fifth wheel? Or are there low income, subsidized apartments or small houses to rent. I'm on the central Oregon coast and the housing is unmaintained and dangerous, with shorting wires in the roof , also bats in the roof, nobody is here to receive rent payments and we don't get receipts. That's just the tip of the iceberg. So Aberdeen sounds like a good place to live. I would really appreciate a response from you. Thank you and God bless you and keep you safe ✝️.
Hannah, Aberdeen is indeed a wonderful small town -- but our nation's heartland is full of wonderful small towns! The best advice we can give is get out and explore a bit to find what's right for you.
