    Michigan's Upper Peninsula, or "UP" is already way up north, but the Keweenaw Peninsula is the northernmost portion of the UP, and was the site of the first copper boom in the United States! We explore the stunning natural and man-made beauty across the entire Keweenaw Peninsula and Keweenaw Bay of Lake Superior in this episode of Grand Adventure, including the abandoned Ford Motor Company sawmill at Pequaming, the Mouth of the Huron, Point Abbaye, Houghton, Hancock, Quincy Mine, Calumet, Eagle River, Eagle Harbor, Brockway Mountain Drive, Copper Harbor, High Rock Bay and Bete Gris, all while camping at L'Anse Township Park right on the shores of Keweenaw Bay.

    ABOUT US
    Welcome to Grand Adventure, a UA-cam channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.
    We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on UA-cam, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're "long-timers" who tend to hit the road for weeks or months at a time, while maintaining a sticks-and-bricks home in Utah.
    We'll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

    I have been busy and have not been watching much and could not believe it when I saw you were in the UP! We're hoping that the promised change in wind direction overnight clears these skies for tomorrow.

      Indeed it is, Chris! We should've consulted some of you locals for tips on some boondocking spots in the National Forest, but we also needed to have cell service for work, and we wanted waterfront. Mouth of the Huron had some wonderful boondocking but we were shocked at how packed it was. And the cell signal was insufficient for our work needs, too. (Come on StarLink!) Boondocking would be perfect at High Rock Bay for anyone with a truck camper or a tent.

    Wow - great video! Living on Cape Cod we have worried about moving out West and away from the beautiful ocean that surrounds us, but we never realized how gorgeous (and ocean like) the Great Lakes are! We are definitely going to add the UP to our list of places to travel - will definitely satisfy our "ocean fix"!

    • @GrandAdventure

      And if you go far enough west there's of course the Pacific coast! Even in Utah we're only a quick 90-minute flight from anywhere along the West Coast. The NorCal/Oregon coast is nothing short of stunning. It's very different from Cape Cod, of course, but no less beautiful.

      The water is definitely nippy, and I'll fully admit to being a wuss when it comes to cold water. But without any plans to swim, that really wasn't an issue for us. Where we were kayaking in the Apostle Islands in next week's episode the water temps were around 65ºF near shore, although they quickly drop to around 50ºF not too far off shore.

      Grand Adventure Nope it got too cold too quickly! Actually am in a tiny town in Nebraska - a cute little town park with free electric, water and dump station. Am slowly making my way to Florida for Christmas with daughter/granddaughter. Next grand adventure is Iowa and possibly meeting with friends to do Nachez Trace from Nashville to Nachez - 444 miles of park (no commercial vehicles) with three well spaced boondocking campgrounds and truly scenic (hikes, ghost towns, Indian mound and more) through Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi. Plan to spend the fall foliage there.

      Grand Adventure Natchez Trace is a MUST. Been on it 3 different times in last seven years and always extend my stays to a month or more as I find new adventures every time! When the world gets back to normal, add Newfoundland to your list. Another favorite adventure of mine but take the entire summer (and still didn’t seem like enough time to see it all). So many beautiful places!

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 роки тому +2

      LOL! Really, we haven't had much issue. Then again we're not used to reserving anything as this is the first season we've been confined to campgrounds, so we don't have much of a baseline to compare it to. Some of our reservations in the more popular areas have been made a month or two in advance, whereas others we've made only a few days in advance, or even on the fly. Over Labor Day weekend we were in a 5-site town campground in North Dakota that's first-come, first served, and we were the only ones there for the entire three-day holiday. In most cases, though, the campgrounds have been quiet during the week and full, or nearly full on weekends.
