A Massive question I always get and always see is "Do you have to spend a ton of money on a bow?"
My simple answer is NO. You never HAVE to spend extra money on a bow especially if you are just getting into it! One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is blow their entire hunting budget on a bow before they buy tags and get the chance to hunt. I get it more than anyone....buying new bows and getting the best of the best is a lot of fun every year... BUT is it really worth it?
This brings me to today's video Torrex Vs VTM? Do you have to spend almost double just for a bow? Or can you get away with the cheaper option and still have success?
I am sure you've heard "It's not about the equipment it's about the shooter" This is a pretty true statement no matter what piece of gear you have, as long as you know how to use it, it will perform for you.
Hope this video sharing these two bows helps you with your decision on if you need to spend the extra money or save it for more tags and other gear. Thank you for your support! Been a skateboarder and into nikes and jordan. But im 38 now and want to get into archery and possibly huntinf. Been studying these bows from different youtube channels. And it has helped me alot. But i will admit when i buy my first bow i will feel out of place. But i love the way hoyts look and probably going for that 800 price range, then eventually work my way up to flagship. Thanks for your review. God bless brother

Got the Torrex as my first bow a month ago, as a 58 yo who hated the cross bow, have shot it everyday, love it, did put a 8" front stabilizer, QAD ultrarest, and a Trophy Ridge Digital 1 pin React site, love the one pin couldn't see a three pin with my old eyes, didn't want to spend the money but was the only one again that worked for me. I can't compare to anything other than the bows I tested and liked this one. It felt right to me. All the experienced comments, like toughness of pull, back wall, sponge...all things a month ago I wouldn't have noticed and now getting familiar, to my inexperienced hands its a great shooting bow that hits where you shoot it. Mine with a 440 grain at 60 lbs was 260 fps on the chronograph.

I bought the VTM34 @65lbs it actually feels like a 50lb draw. I shoot almost every day. I also shoot my Diamond edge set @65lbs. Night and day difference between the two. Fixed sight on diamond and movable on VTM. I love both bows. But VTM is very easy to draw no hand shock. I have learned a few things from you… THANKYOU for the Videos.

I started shooting with a torrex couple years ago and it got me addicted to archery. Totally love that bow. Hoyt pro series Stabilizers are a big game changer on this one. I am now looking for a heavier draw weight and that VTM seems to be the one. Gotta go try one out!

Certainly know what you are saying about plasitc grip vs. rubber..... But... if you can help it, you do want your
grip set before draw. Will create tension in skin... can certainly cause torque.
    Very nice video. :)

I myself am not a hunter (some day maybe) but i wanted to pick up archery. I watched tons of review videos/guides for best mid level bows(didn't want to buy the cheapest)With the help of your Torrex review and some other reviewers praising this bow, I bought my Torrex 2 years ago. It came with a RTH bundle....Later on I ended up getting a shrewd front stabilizer and replaced the sight with a black gold ascent mountain lite.
I definitely recommend it ,especially as a first time hunting bow.
I will say after some time and seeing the newer flagship bows rolling out. I am awfully tempted to upgrade to a VTM

I hunted last year with the torrex and took a deer with it. Great bow for the price and solid beginner bow. Very solid and durable. . I switched this year to a matthews v3 27 inch at 72 lbs. Flagships just give you a smoother ride.

just bought the torrex XT two days ago. I must agree, for 899, price tag just for the bow, 1300 for arrows sight and rest, you truly can not go wrong with this bow!. Yes if you spend 1300+ for the matthews or hoyt flagship yes you will get those 2-3 levels difference. Smoother draw/ dead hand, but it just wasnt worth the extra money, maybe when i become a more avoid shooter or hunter where im shooting 60 + yards then yes. It is a solid bow for the price! AMAZING quality and shootabilty for a starter and GREAT for your average hunter

With old shoulders, the VTM is worth the money. That said, the Axius (Alpha or Ultra) is a great series of bows. I'd look for one of those on closeout or used. Have shot the Torrex, just too stiff and too spongy compared to other offerings.

@HaxenHunt I upgraded from the Torrex XT to the VTM31. Torrex is set up as my backup bow now. It was a great bow to learn on for sure. The difference in draw cycle is pretty significant. VTM is like butter, plus you're going to get pic mount for the site, integrated rest, etc. VTM was maxed out limbs at 70.3lbs and Torrex XT maked out at 72lbs. If your looking for a bow that is going work well but doesn't break the bank the Torrex will not let you down, but having both it is obvious the VTM is the stand out. Having the Torrex on standby in case something happens in September in the Elk woods, makes me feel much better though.

why didnt you put stabalizer on torrex for a better comparison ????

  • @davidhowell3609
    @davidhowell3609 Рік тому +2

Both are great bows. I bought the Torrex and shot and hunted with it all last year. Nothing wrong with it at all. However I did get that new bow bug and after going out last year and deciding that I really like archery and bow hunting, I spent the money and upgraded to the VTM31. It's definitely an upgrade with a nicer feel, although the Torrex is still a great bow and currently being kept as my backup.
The weight is the hardest part for me to get used to coming from how light the Torrex is. It might actually be a really good option though if you're a western hunter who is trying to have their setup as light as possible.
The VTM settles on the pins way more but with a good stabilizer the Torrex had no issues for me until I started going out to further distances such as 60+yds the pin float started getting difficult but a backbar and some extra weight on the front would probably mitigate all of that.
Overall you can't go wrong with either. If you can afford it there VTM is nicer and you can feel where the extra money went. However the Torrex is still a great shooting bow and will get you deer just as easily and obviously save you quite a bit of money.

You don't need a $1400 bow to hunt big game anywhere. What you need is a bow the feels good to you. Then you need to practice with it. Have confidence with it. People get caught up in the name game. "Flagship" vs "budget" or mathews vs hoyt vs pse etc.... . Its almost like the shame game. Lmao. I love how you go to an archery shop with a bow that you didn't buy from them to get set up and they lecture you about not buying the bow from them. I can go to any bow shop your the one that needs my money. I pissed off a guy that was selling Matthew's bows I told him I could get a good rifle, scope, and ammo for less money. He got pissed off started to walk away turned around and said to me yeah but you can get your arrows back after you shoot. I replied how much does 20 arrows cost compared to 20 bullets?. Buy what you want as long as your happy. Don't let anyone convince you to buy a certain bow because of the name or because somehow it does all this magical shit that no other bow can do. Buy a bow that feels good and gets you excited about shooting it and gets you excited about getting out and hunting with it. Buy good quality accessories and remember the KISS method. Oh and have fun!
