Samara's the only character who really sold being ageless to me. To be someone who could kill her own daughter, but still love her as much as a mother can. That's the sort of thing you can only conceive in someone who's had a looong time to think about it
The more I replay ME over the years the more I come to appreciate Samara's maturity. The script and her VA really did a great job, none of the other asari or krogan who are supposed to be hundreds of years old quite manage to make you believe it.
Well, Krogans are warriors. The Asari has incredibly long life span. It takes centuries to reach maturity. Salarians only live for a handful of decades etc. In short only few characters can give off that feel.
Those last words in ME2, "In another time, In another life..." Powerful words from a wise person, man... It's incredible what this games do to one's mind and feelings.
This is honestly what truly bothered me about both Mass Effect 3 and the Citadel DLC. They primed Samara for being an incredible romance option, honestly. I'm no writer by any means, but have the 'romance' play out the exact same way as it does in ME2 but in ME3 at the Ardat-Yakshi compound when Shepard saves her from her shenanigans there could have been a really heartfelt moment where he tells her that she tried to forfeit what she had and that s/he understood that after the trials Samara had been through, but that even through all that pain and suffering there was a place for her to be herself and be appreciated. Could have this conversation end on a cliffhanger or as Samara saying something along the lines of needing time to process what she truly needed to do moving forward. Then during the cutscene (post Ardat-Yakshi mission) on the citadel (not the DLC, the one where Shepard sends her to join the project) she could express how important Shpepard was to her, and how she's truly ruminating on those words. That there is a connection there but she had lived her life one way for so long. The conversation could again end with no real final resolution as (again) duty would be splitting them apart (obviously I'd prefer she joins the crew because she's still the best) Then at the end of the game when you call her before the final push you could have her truly express love for Shepard and that she was in fact willing to walk through the rest of their respective lives together. Her past, the silence, freedom from teh code and/or the war gave her a new perspective on life, and that even though she is many times older than Shepard she feels a closeness/connection there that she doesn't want to lose...can't lose. Then in Citadel DLC you could have them actually do couple things. Maybe go on a date and see some shenanigans going on that even though Samara is no longer living as a Justicar she just couldn't overlook and Shepard being Shepard is like "Where you go, I go". Honestly, Samara as a character is fascinating. She has the propensity to be so much and the potential romance had the capacity to be truly heartwarming. Part of me understands why they went the route they did, but it won't ever stop me from saying that she is hands down my head-canon pairing for Shepard.
@@davidrosensin7985 apart of me feels even if they couldnt of had a full romance the way I feel intended, I'd of hoped Samara would of be with shepherds child as a way for atoning for her daughter, and for the possibility of shepherd dying and the survival of the universe at the end of epilogue. I have said this also for Miranda, and liara just in case a full romance, to see them with at least a baby bump, would have made that finale all the more meaningful and impactful in my opinion, to see that a legacy would continue on

We know with when she wanted to kill herself for her daughters that the code is flawed, why does everything today need to be taken offensive, maybe giving her happiness and a loving relationship and freeing her from her Code is the right thing to do, Samara is old enough to decide for herself…
@@allancastellon9248 Shepard's not her parent, and Samara's not an underaged child either... Paragon Shepard also respects her position, so it's more comparable to a Man saying he loves a Nun and while he says he loves her, he'd tell her to leave the church if he could.
@@GrasshopperKelly I don't think it's crazy to genuinely ask them as long as they accept the answer. Which Shepherd does only bringing it up again after an insane change of circumstances.
@RobertEdwinHouse9 she would obviously make a great wife and mother. She's incredibly family oriented and is the only woman in the entire galaxy who had a good relationship with her dad.
Samara's eyes are one of the most beautiful I've ever seen in video games, they are like shiny full of light kind and expressive at the same time, I'm drowning in her eyes every time I see her on screen
This would make sense because Samara and Shepard probably have about the same life expectancy, given her age. Also, they could have kids (cf. Benezia having Liara as a matriarch) and those would not be pure bloods and therefore not ardat-yakshis.
I could be wrong, and if I remember correctly the way it works is Samara will only ever give birth to Ardat-Yakshi, she is a carrier of the genetic disorder because she is a pureblooded Asari. Any children Her and Shep would have would have the disease, it's why she became a Justicar in the first place and probably why she is so hesitant to give in to her desire for Shepard.
@Gradyolson I don't believe it is guaranteed that all of Samara's children would be Ardat-Yakshi, as those generally only happen due to Asari-Asari relationships. However, Samara was and is probably not interested in more children, as 2 were functionally exiled, 1 became a serial killer, and by the Citadel 2 of those are dead.
@smol_pupper123 I did some more digging and as far as I can see Samara is a carrier of the genetic defect that makes Ardar-Yakshi purebloods are more likely to have the gene but are not guaranteed to have it. Samara however has it so any kids she has regardless with whom all will be Ardat-Yakshi.
@smol_pupper123 It's not a 100% thing. There had to be enough pure Asari pairings that didn't produce Ardat-Yakshi to live long enough to achieve space travel, right?
