Hello, I’ve suddenly lost control of my xi5 from the sounder since I did a power cable changeout. It has been working perfectly from the sounder for ages. I can see the Nema is healthy and the gateway is visible from the device list, however there is no trolling motor tab displayed. I have checked all the autopilot settings are ON in the system > advanced settings. The xi5 gps unit wiring looks fine, and the unit still can spot lock and be operated from the hand piece. Any ideas?
Thank you for the video. I had a problem during the update where after power was disconnected and reconnected, the unit stayed on the screen telling me to disconnect and reconnect power to the trolling motor for 5 seconds. During this time, I could not use the depth finder as it was stuck on the screen which i think is goofy. I was not able to complete the update or used the trolling motor with the lowrance unit after this prompt. I am going to check all my connections on the NMEA network today but the bus in settings says that it is on.
Hi Carlos It is best to do the update outdoors as both the Lowrance and Motorguide need GPS Lock :) (When toggling power on the Motorguide, it will need to get GPS lock again) Ensure your NMEA is configured properly with the end terminating resistors in place Also make sure your Lowrance has the latest update. If you still run into trouble, we suggest just having the Xi5 and lowrance connected to the powered NMEA 2000 Network. Hope you come right
Hi Alberto, you will need a NMEA 2000 Network and the Motorguide Gateway link to connect your compatible Lowrance unit to the Xi5 (GPS model) as stated in the video :)
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm having a bit of an problem and hoping you could help me or know of the issue: I've had the Motorguide xi5-55FW 54 12v + gateway kit and n2k NMEA 2000 starterkit for Lowrance for about 1 month. Everything worked great in the beginning and I'm still extremely happy with my purchase. The problem I'm having is that I've only gotten the autopilot and steering on my Lowrance unit to show up twice since I've gotten it. I've been using it about 20 times since then. Every other time it only says "no autopilot computer". One of the reasons I think it might not work is that i get the message "trolling motor update required, Please follow the on screen instructions, select ok to start" and whenever I press OK nothing happens, I've waited 30 minutes and still nothing. I never get the next messages and it's extremely frustrating not being able to "fix it". I followed your video on how to set it up and update it but I get stuck on the same step every time waiting for the update to start. I can't really get any help from motorguide since I live in Sweden and the dealer I bought it from have no clue what I'm talking about. Br, Nicklas
Problem solved!! On some units like the Elite Ti2, which is what I have, you want to power up your Lowrance and Motorguide first before you plug in your gateway to the back of your Lowrance. I did this and it worked for me. Hope it can help you guys too.
Doesnt work on the lowerance hds live unit with the newest update. Stuck at screen update 1 to unplug, still stuck after repluged. Call motorguide and was told its not their problem. So i called Lowerance and spoke to a technician and Yes there's a problem with the new update. He emailed me a previous firmware to install and now my unit works.
@@Heineken1712 sorry for the late response, I honestly don't remember which firmware. I got feed up and updated my live unit today with the latest firmware and working. Still can't upgrade the firmware on the motorguide unit. Put a switch on ur power t connector, power the motorguide then the lowrance unit and last turn on that toggle switch for the t connector. That should power the GPS and both should connect.
I have an Xi3 I recently networked with an elite TI I have the 18.2 update and it won’t follow routes. I can Go to cursor but when I get there it won’t anchor I have it selected to anchor on arrival. I try some preset turns and it won’t follow them either it’s the first point then it just goes straight. Can you tell me what the settings are supposed to be?
Hi Mike! On the Lowrance, tap the power button, go into settings -- > network --> data sources and set the GPS position to the Motorguide and set the scope to local. This should sort all of the issues out :) be sure to to the Alignment and Compass calibrations (As shown in the pinpoint GPS manual under product installation and operation) Link here to the document (look at page 14, 15 and 16): ww2.motorguide.com/userfiles/file/Support/OwnersManuals/8M0119779_Pinpoint.pdf Link to the cheat sheet: ww2.motorguide.com/userfiles/file/Support/InstructionSheets/PinPoint%20GPS%20Quick%20Start%20Instructions.pdf Bear in mind that if your lowrance unit is using it's internal GPS as a position sensor, and it is not near your Xi5, this will create problems as you have a position offset... having the Lowrance unit that you are using the pinpoint features on near your motorguide will give you the best results (on the bow), set the Xi5 as the LOCAL GPS source (Change scope to local)
I like to disconnect power from my lowrance units and trolling motor at the end of the day before I charge the batteries. Will this cause any problems with the xi3/xi5 trolling motor?
Hi Fue22686. Disconnecting and isolating power is always a good thing. This is the best practice Just ensure when you turn the power off on your Lowrance units that you tap the power button then select power off on the screen to shut the unit down. We shut our units down then have a battery isolator / circuit breaker that we operate to cut power to all electronic systems
It should not. Also remember that the trolling motor wireless module. AND gps module will continuously pull power even when the trolling motor is stowed (while towing) it is best to have a cut off switch to isolate power when towing / on charge
Will the hand held and cordless foot still work? And, sorry because I don't know, will the internal transducer come from another cable entry? I guess I want to know is. Other than Blue Tooth, how does my Gen2 receive information from the transducer? Thanks
This is exactly why I hate my minkota. It's a good trolling motor but minkota wants you to buy a new updated motor rather than making an add on to the old one because they didn't design it right the first time.
That's why there are so many pre-BT models for sale. The first gen was good,it was the 2nd gen that was the dud.Seems they went backwards with the spot lock. That's why I got the Xi5.Spot lock was tight when it wanted to be.Bass guys would hate the Terrova because the turning speed is much slower than Xi5.It slows down more when motor is at a higher speed,a safety feature I guess. The older Terrova would drift off set position, then want to jackrabbit back to original position.
Sorry Jason, not sure we understand your comment.... you require the Motorguide / Lowrance NMEA Gateway which connects to the Xi5 on the one side and then to the top of a NMEA 2000 T-Connector on the other side.

Question the cable front my gateway is a 5 pin. The motorguide cable is a 6 pin? Is that strange or what am I missing?
this update method works the same for xi3?
Do I need a nmea network? Can I just use the gateway to connect the trolling motor to my bow mounted lowrance?

Just read the manual you get.

The trolling icon on the side dose not show up for me??
Check that trolling motor features etc are enabled on the fishfinder
