I found leaves are were a good starting point for simple shapes to practice cutting skills and then progressed to flowers. I tried a few bird prints but most looked like knackered fat pigeons regardless of what sort of bird it was supposed to be. I used inspiration from other artists at my linocut class - I did a reduction print inspired by Hokusai's Great Wave which was quite successful and a multi-block print of The Song of the Lark by Jules Breton which I was less happy with.
@neiljackman2511 can I have thr knackered fat pidgeons back they are from my bird table. Personally I find it intimidating to look at others work and that goes for all creative work. It's taken me a long time to find my own style. I guess because I was a commercial artist that I could sort of create whatever style the customer wanted, so I never had one of my own. Picasso was pretty good at fat pigeons even if he called them doves Richard
