Actually BOTH of the actors who played the king and queen did the voices of Simba’s parents. It was partially because of their roles in this movie that they were asked to be the voice actors in The Lion King. 🦁 So King Muffasa and Queen Sarabi were first in “Coming to America” before ruling over the pridelands. 😁😁
@@disconnexionsdotcom And Pryor got it from Peter Sellers. The star of a movie playing multiple characters actually goes back to the 1918 movie "Stella Maris", where Mary Pickford played both the title character and her rival Unity Blake.

Re: the mopping the floor scene. When I was in college, I worked in my dorm's kitchen and we had an exchange student who had grown up where "women did all the housework" and he had no idea how to mop a floor. So someone showed him where the cleaning stuff was and how much cleaner to add to a bucket of water and how to put the ringer in the bucket, and assumed that was good enough instruction. The poor guy went out into the kitchen, dumped the whole mop bucket onto the floor, and then was swishing it around with the mop. The head chef was like WHAT ARE YOU DOING and he was like ...is this not how you do it? ALSO Arsenio Hall had a late night talk show for a while, but you were probably too young to remember that!
The "Soul Glo" guy was Eriq LaSalle -- if' you've seen the show E.R., you know who he is. 16:39 -- that was the reason why we wanted you to watch "Trading Places" before this movie.

I'm sure someone else has already mentioned that James Earl Jones (the King, the Lion King Mufasa) is also the voice of Darth Vader. Also, Yes, Eddie Murphy is also known to play many parts in movies. The Nutty Professor is one where he does that.
It’s funny to see someone so surprised that Eddie Murphy can do so many characters. Ash needs to watch Eddie’s classic Saturday Night Live sketches: Gumby, Mr Robinson, Buckwheat…
Eddie Murphy is known for playing multiple characters in a movie. This movie, plus The Nutty Professor Part 1 and 2, and Norbit. There are probably more. Arsenio Hall was the 1st black late night talk show host and a comedic actor. He also starred in Harlem Nights with Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, and Red Foxx. I hope you will watch these other movies.
My absolute favourite movie from the 80's. Everything Eddie Murphy touched turned to gold around that time and this was him at his peak! Those scenes of Eddie, Arsenio and Clint in the barbershop arguing about boxing are some of the funniest and most quotable ever! You spotted the characters that Eddie and Arsenio played but the jewish guy that told the soup joke was also Eddie. You're right that the cameo was the Duke brothers from Trading Places, both movies had the same director.
Eddie Murphy got his big break on Saturday Night Live doing multiple characters. You should check them out. He does one skit where he is a black man dressed as a white man getting on the bus or going into an establishment that the minute a real black person walks out of the scene all the white folks dance and sing. It is hysterical
Apparently Ashleigh, you have yet to see the Star Wars movies, because James Earl Jones also voiced Darth Vader, and that's how I came to know him. This movie is actually the first movie where I saw what he looked like.
6:49 See that guy with the hat on the right? THAT is actually Eddie Murphy under heavy make up and prosthetics. It was the first movie where he could play several different roles in ONE movie. Something he did in later movies a lot :) Always a feast to watch him playing multiple roles in the same movie. I LOVE that the most and his enthusiasm to really add this kind of personal touch to his movies. Heck if he'd make a movie playing EVERY character, i'd totally watch it in a heartbeat.
The look on James Earl Jones' face when he says 'I know I do!' both devastates my impression of him and makes me laugh so hard that I have to forgive every time I watch this movie. And the soup joke at the end... Always another good laugh.
My favorite part is the sequence when Cleo is running back and forth answering the door and the little doggy 🐶 is following this process and then looks at us the audience lmao so cute and funny 😆
You go, girl. You did a great job of recognizing famous faces. In the remake of the Jerry Lewis film, "The Nutty Professor." Eddie once again plays a cast of characters. ✌️♥️🌹
This movie has so much quotable dialogue. I honestly can’t decide on my favorite scene. It’s between the Duke brothers' cameo, Samuel L. Jackson’s scene, and all the barbershop scenes. I also really love the part where James Earl Jones has his Darth Vader moment when he says the line, “No! Do not alert him to my presence. I shall deal with him myself.”
Great reaction to a great movie Ashleigh and yes, Eddie Murphy’s a legend when it comes to playing multiple characters in his movies. If you wanna see more of that, check out the Nutty Professor and if you wanna see more of Eddie Murphy in general, you should keep Beverly Hills Cop, Dr Dolittle and Daddy Day Care in mind too.
"Coming 2 America" did just come out in 2021. It was a sequel, with many of the same actors. There's a Duke brothers in-joke in that film as well. Louie Anderson also appeared, in his final film role before his death earlier this year.
At 13:45 it's a pocket camera , those were pretty famous at that time because they were very user friendly but didn't made good pictures at all because of the fixed lens , they had a small film cassette instead of a roll of film like most cameras at the time, what made changing them a lot easier.
I love this movie! Hope you'll add "Silver Streak" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor to your list. Pryor was one of Eddie Murphy's major comic influences.
Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were supposed to do 'Trading Places' but Pryor had the burn accident. That movie almost didn't get made because the producers didn't believe Aykroyd could pull off the part.
Definitely NOT Eddie's best movie, but not his worst either (by far). I think you've done "Trading Places", but "48 Hours" and "Beverly Hills Cop" are at the top of the list.
I had to pause the video in the opening theme to come comment. You are absolutely on track. (As Vader says in RotJ regarding the rebels: "I will deal with them myself")
Yeah, it did feel like he took it too far with doing more than one role in his movies. I prefer his earlier works, personally.
How about the line: Leave him to me. I'll deal with him myself. Vader said: Leave them to me. I'll deal with them myself in Empire Strikes Back.
"This is CNN."
@@QuayNemSorr he also lifts up arsenio hall to the wall in anger like darth vader did
I’m SO glad you watched Trading Places first. The Dukes scene is the best cameo ever!
The part where Arsenio puts the chicken bone in the collection plate has me dying of laughter EVERY time. 😂😂💀
Glad to see the tradition of Ashleigh not recognizing Samuel L Jackson is still going strong 😂
Favorite line: “So you see, my son, there is a very fine line between love and nausea.” Aoleon’s side eye really sells it.
Ashleigh not noticing that "the voice of Mufasa" literally quoted another of his much more famous roles in this movie is priceless.
Waaiiiiit.... Does this mean we get to watch Star Wars with Ashleigh?
@@Gryffyth_Aurum Ashleigh already did Star Wars.
The CNN guy....
And the voice of Darth Vader
@@TheMayorChi35 That's what the OP is referring to.
Fun facts,
-the kings wife also voiced Mufasa's mate in The Lion King
-the African dance scene was choreographed by Paula Abdul
-Eddie and Arsenio played multiple roles in this film
Wow didn't know the Paula fact.
Doyle Yernaux Another fun fact for you, Eddie Murphy was actually the fifth Beatle and masterminded their sound and look, but they kicked him out of the band stole all his good ideas.
@@scottb3034 and she was only 18 when she got hired for the job
@@ventrue24601 wow. She was almost American idol judge longer than she was alive when she did this.
Doing this and being a top charts singer during this era, sure can't beat it.
No offense, but I'm doubting Ashleigh knows who Paula Abdul really is, straight up.
True story.
When I was driving big trucks the company I drove for hired a new driver and I had to train him.
When I got to the terminal to pick up my trainee the terminal manager informed me that I would be training a prince from Africa.
Turns out he and his family had to flee their country because his father the king had been deposed.
They sought asylum in the US and were given refuge while they were awaiting their naturalization papers to become US citizens.
He was a good man who was always upbeat and willing to do what was necessary to support his family despite growing up in uber luxury and now was basically poor.
I will remember that experience and meeting him for the rest of my life.
@@TrickyDicky2006 🤣🤣🤣
There's a reason why I always look forward to watching yet another Ashleigh reaction! Your reactions! LOL
For St. Patricks Day: The Boondock Saints (1999)
I posted this before I heard you are doing it on Friday. I can't wait. It is a little outside your wheelhouse. But isn't that what Friday's Patreon Member Movie Request Fridays is for? I think you will enjoy most of it.
Actually BOTH of the actors who played the king and queen did the voices of Simba’s parents.
It was partially because of their roles in this movie that they were asked to be the voice actors in The Lion King. 🦁
So King Muffasa and Queen Sarabi were first in “Coming to America” before ruling over the pridelands. 😁😁
actually not only James Earl Jones is the voice of Mufasa... Queen Aoleon ((Madge Sinclair)), is the voice of Sarabi :3
I came here to say this, lol. I just thought she'd appreciate that tidbit. Perfect casting too. They are both so regal. RIP Madge Sinclair
Right! People always overlook that!
Funny how you dubbed in a dolphin sound effect over the "F" word and I love your expressions.
Both Eddie and Arsenio played multiple characters, including the old men in the barbershop.
I swear, I've seen this movie about 25 times, but at 19:12 I've NEVER picked up on the McDonalds operations manual before, well done!
Ashleigh singing the lion sleeps tonight is thing that I didn't realize how much I needed today!
The whole "Tyler Perry plays every character on the screen thing", he got that from Eddie Murphy. Can't wait for you to watch the Nutty Professor.
Eddie Murphy takes the whole "plays multiple characters" thing to a WHOLE 'nother level in Nutty Professor.
and Eddie Murphy got it from Richard Pryor in Which Way Is Up? and also Jerry Lewis's Nutty Professor.. which he remade in the 90s.
@@disconnexionsdotcom And Pryor got it from Peter Sellers. The star of a movie playing multiple characters actually goes back to the 1918 movie "Stella Maris", where Mary Pickford played both the title character and her rival Unity Blake.
8:27 The term "Cosby sweater" might have some different connotations now, but that style of sweater was called that because he usually wore one on his 80s sitcom.
Oh my…I had to hit pause I was laughing so hard…”what kind of camera is that?” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
22:26 "Arsenio Hall. That name sounds _so_ familiar."
Well, shoot, Ashleigh. He's an actor, comedian, writer, producer and he once had his own late-night _talk_ show.
That comment about talk show reminded me of Passenger 57. If you have seen it, you'll get the reference.
While I never really got into his interview skills, he had some of the best music on his show.
Fun fact, Madge Sinclair who played the queen also voiced Simba's mom in Lion King. Also, you should really watch Top Secret starring Val Kilmer. It is written and directed by the guys who did Airplane and Naked gun and I feel is their funniest film
Top Secret and Real Genius (not Zucker/Abrams, but a great Kilmer comedy)
One of my favorite Eddie Murphy flicks is "Bowfinger" with Steve Martin- it's a hilarious take on Hollywood, film making and Scientology. Murphy plays an action star and his very nerdy cousin. It's great!
Don't spoil it.
She will love Bowfinger. I predict it now.
Keep it together!
The “crossing the freeway” scene in “Bowfinger” makes me cry it’s so freakin’ hilarious. Don’t even think about watching it if you have a rib injury. 😂
"The giant foot is not trying to squash me!"
you can tell Ashleigh is a Millennial she sees James earl jones and instantly thinks Lion king!! everyone older thinks star wars and DARTH VADER that girl cracks me up lol
The funnest comment is Ashleigh saying... "What kind of camera is that?". Her tone and inflection is brilliant.
When you noticed the Duke brothers, that was pretty awesome to recognize a previous movie reference
He does a lot of special makeup. He pretended to be a white guy in real life for a day for SNL and he played almost his whole family for the nutty professor and a few others. He played two characters in bow finger with Steve Martin. He's very talented
The Boondock Saints has been one of my absolute favorite movies for the last 20 years. I can’t wait ❤️❤️
I've never met anyone who didn't like Coming to America, classic film.Never get tired of watching it.Enjoyed your reactions,Ashleigh,by your constant LAUGHTER you seemed to enjoy this movie. Some of these OLDER films still hold up even today.
I never even realized this movie is 2 hours long. It is so entertaining it moves by so fast
How old is Ashley? I'm 30 and I remember. If she ever knew, she probably remembers.
Woof woof woof and wave your fist in the air
@@DocStewie77 I think she's in her late 20s but I'm not sure.

“These aren’t jokes. These are just things that make you say, ‘Hmmmmmmm…’”
The "Soul Glo" guy was Eriq LaSalle -- if' you've seen the show E.R., you know who he is.
16:39 -- that was the reason why we wanted you to watch "Trading Places" before this movie.
7:30 _"Yes! F*ck you, too!"_

13:42 That is an 80's camera. With actual film in it. 35mm most likely
I think i clocked you speaking atleast 250 mph at the start there, i am most impressed, lol! ;)
I have to also say, your singing is quite impressive.
I love this movie, as do i many others of his.
I think one of my favourite ones is ' The golden child ', which if you haven't already seen, i would suggest it being worth watching.
The one made reciently is a follow on movie and not a remake as far as i know.
I have seen it but personally, i don't think it's as good as the first one!
Anyway, have a wonderful day Ashleigh and stay safe!
I'm sure someone else has already mentioned that James Earl Jones (the King, the Lion King Mufasa) is also the voice of Darth Vader. Also, Yes, Eddie Murphy is also known to play many parts in movies. The Nutty Professor is one where he does that.
The spoon joke at the end is one of my all time favorite jokes. Love it and I love the way Eddie tells it. 🤣🤣
Right??
It’s funny to see someone so surprised that Eddie Murphy can do so many characters. Ash needs to watch Eddie’s classic Saturday Night Live sketches: Gumby, Mr Robinson, Buckwheat…
Not for the channel probably but she should watch Delerious and Raw.
@@johnfriday5169 The editing would be fun to watch.
Nutty Professor
19:17 King: "Do not alert him to my presence, I will deal with him myself"
Got serious Darth Vader vibes right there.
Does that mean he touched the golden child ?
Eddie Murphy got his big break on Saturday Night Live doing multiple characters. You should check them out. He does one skit where he is a black man dressed as a white man getting on the bus or going into an establishment that the minute a real black person walks out of the scene all the white folks dance and sing. It is hysterical
Your next Eddie Murphy comedy should be "Life." He and Martin Lawrence are fantastic together.
That movie's a trip
That's a great movie too
Apparently Ashleigh, you have yet to see the Star Wars movies, because James Earl Jones also voiced Darth Vader, and that's how I came to know him.
RIP, Louie Anderson. He was in this movie.
This is a great movie, always makes me laugh. Boondock Saints is a classic, I love it, but it's not for everyone. Enjoy!!
I love it, but you're right, it isn't for everyone.
I'm worried the cat scene might completely ruin it for our girl🙀
I loved that movie when it came out, but having watched it more recently, parts of it are aging REALLY badly.
Ashleigh, you need to check out some of Eddie's more dramatic movies. I highly recommend the two "48 Hours" movies that he was in.
48 Hours basically invented the buddy cop genre.
Check out Mr. Church.
@@lisaspikes4291 surprisingly good
And of course...'Beverly Hills Cop'. Probably his biggest success until Shrek.
@@roberthughes2402 Except Detroit 3000, every Dirty Harry movie, Stray Dog, In the Heat of the Night, The French Connection, ...
The look on James Earl Jones' face when he says 'I know I do!' both devastates my impression of him and makes me laugh so hard that I have to forgive every time I watch this movie.
And the soup joke at the end... Always another good laugh.
The character that I found so surprising that Eddie Murphy played was the old white Jewish guy in the barber shop.
he does that in Vampire in Brooklyn as well, i love when he does that.
I'm at 2:42 - I don't know if you know yet but the King and Queen of Zamunda ARE Mufada and Sarabi..
Harlem Nights and Life are 2 of my favs
One Of Eddie Murphy's Best Comedies Ever Made, Cool Reaction As Always Ashleigh, Take Care Sweetie 🥰
You can really tell the difference between the generations. You view JEJ as Mufasa. I view him as Darth Vader. (And Thulsa Doom.)
I see him as Jack Johnson.

"Coming 2 America" did just come out in 2021. It was a sequel, with many of the same actors. There's a Duke brothers in-joke in that film as well. Louie Anderson also appeared, in his final film role before his death earlier this year.

And this movie is why sometimes it's better not to do a sequel. Part 2 was so disappointing
Beverly Hills cop 4 coming soon too
Eddie Murphy was on SNL for 5 years and was also a stand up comedian. His first movie was 48 Hours, a buddy cop film with Nick Nolte.
Once we got her onto Richard Pryor we'll do Brewster's Millions with John Candy
See No Evil Hear No Evil!!!
"Silver Streak"
"Get DOWN!" 😎📻
This movie review made me laugh, thanks for making this Daylight savings Monday better!
Definitely NOT Eddie's best movie, but not his worst either (by far). I think you've done "Trading Places", but "48 Hours" and "Beverly Hills Cop" are at the top of the list.
48 Hours is FANTASTIC!! He has great chemistry with Nick Nolte! :)
Beverly Hills Cop ! Is my favorite one from Eddie !
Yes, to both.
I had to pause the video in the opening theme to come comment. You are absolutely on track. The son you hear in the openin sequence is an African group Ladysmith Black Mombazo and the song is called M'bube but slightly modified for this movie. This song is the original lion sleeps tonight song and has been versioned from this very song.
