This is a convensional combat senerio and the F-35 doesn't fight that way. It has a 360X360 targeting system meaning it has no blind spot even when flying straight. The missiles have vector thrust and there are sensors around the aircraft that allow this. Requiring a craft to get in front of the mounted HUD is obsolete. The HUD is in the helmet. The F-14 was a test failure too. The Apache had 20 years of critics bashing it and now it has exceeded it's main purpose.
Its an OK plane, but not something I'd get awfully excited about; would rather pilot an A-10.

Both different aircraft with a different strategy.
Where F22 and F35 would try to use stealth as its advantage, they would be compromising on maneuverability and weapon capacity.
PakFa gives up a bit of its stealth characteristics to gain more maneuverability and weapon capacity. It has a powerful radar and focuses more on detecting the other aircraft and negating their stealth advantage.

@tonygogap (2) PakFa won't be anywhere near the JSF in stealth but would be able to detect it at distances where JSF would still be unaware about PakFa's position.
Also radar can be fooled by using RAM coatings and stealth design but IR signature is something that is unavoidable. These machines are burning fuel at an unbelievable rate, which emits an IR signature that no amount of technology can hide today.

US, UK, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, Israel & Singapore.
Nations considering getting the F-35:
Brazil, Finland, Greece, India, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Spain, United Arab Emirates.
The US might not sell the F-35 to all those that are considering it for security reasons (Greece would have financial issues, Taiwan is politically sensitive, etc), but the majority of those nations are fine.
@Forusim US engines are built to higher quality standards than most Russian engines. Additionally, without thrust vectoring, 2 engines aren't going to add to manoeuvrability.
Overall, the reason it has one engine instead of two comes largely from the Air Force and Marines requirements, where STOVL operations are made less reliable with 2 engines and where it's easier for the Air Force to field more F-35's at any time.

@tonygogap (3) The biggest problem with JSF is that its grossly underpowered. With a thrust to weight ratio of 0.84, its really a lazy plane. PakFa is supposed to be powered by two engines of 175KN of thrust. Even if it is powered by AL41F with 157 KN of thrust, its thrust to weight ratio comes to be 1.22. If 175KN engines are used it would be upped to 1.4 Now that is POWER.
Comparing the two would be stupid, since they are using different strategies.
@tonygogap Its much more capable than the F-35. The F-35 is more expensive due to the company trying to make up for its losses in development, its original design and its expensive AESA system.
The "stealth" feature doesn't mean its 100% stealthy. It means its just harder to make a lock on, and only at a closer range by outdated 3rd gen jets. T-50 is 5th gen. A pair of T-50s can easily shoot down an F-35.
Realistically no pilot can lock when the enemy is on his 6...

@slyfoxflyer66 It -can- also shut down entire radar networks with it's radar, get closer to targets than any other aircraft other than the F-22, lock onto and fire missiles at enemies at any angle and allow the pilot to see through their aircraft with 360* EO feeds - if the scenario in the video were true, that F-35 wouldn't have needed to do that silly climb-stall move, as it'd just have been able to fire missiles at the chasing drones.
I bet Yakovlev can do this one faster, stronger and better...after all its their designe
@mpogias13 Its budget will go down, with the amount of customers and the amount of test flights happening. The production will start out slower than expected due to budget cuts for the U.S, but if testing goes smoothly we will deliver aircraft on time and for a cheaper price to other countries. Cheaper doesn't make it better, it only makes it worse. I dont know if the F-35 can take on 2 T-50's, I doubt it would ever happen since you always have wing man for backup, we would have to see.
@mpogias13 The F-35 is the size of a metal golf ball compared to the metal marble of the F-22. Its radar was proven in tests to be able to track and jam F-22 radars and it has DAS which is the best multi situational awareness technology any current fighter has. The F-35 has a different mission than the F-22, its meant primarily for strike missions against SAM's and other ground targets, and its just as lethal in air to air with the HMDS. Stealth is the key for 5th gen. without it your fucked.

@tonygogap (..) but its WAY more cost-efficient and has MUCH more maneuverability compared to any american aircraft. Its cost is at least half as the F-35's meaning that a country could just get double the amount of airplanes with the same price. You should compare F-35 vs x2 T-50's, since their cost is equal. When it comes to BVR, F-35 has a slight advantage. When it comes to dogfights , T-50 is unmatched.
F-35 is a complete disaster for all partner states.
@tonygogap (4) In my original comment I just pointed out some facts about the F-35. IT IS out of schedule, and IT IS out of budget. At the same price, someone could get 2 T-50's.
Of course EVERYONE looks at the price. No other country has a superbudget like USA. Countries count on every single plane they get. I strongly believe that the T-50 is simply way better due to its cost effectiveness and overall ability. On 1v1, the F-35 would propably win, but on 2v1 its just screwed.
@DH93Dyl Of course its inferior. Its a mini-version of the F-22 that the Americans can export to cover the costs of developing the F-22 and make profit. Do some research.
In air superiority the F-22 is unmatched. The F-35 was also made because its a cheaper (3 times cheaper) unit, so they can produce it in larger quantities and make it carry out the daily missions of supporting ground forces etc.
@mpogias13 We already have a tone of partners working jointly on the project and other international partners. Trust me, we only sell our technology to people we trust, they wont have to worry because they know we would have their backs, they would be completely independent.
F-35 could never fly with that agility shown in the video. It can be out-classed by a Mig-21 in close combat.

Wondering, why they would chose 1 turbine instead of 2 for F-35.
The maneuverability and reliability should be decreased with such design.

@mpogias13 First off, yes it is out of budget but it certainly is not inferior to the T-50 or even the raptor. The T-50 if you haven't noticed has worse stealth characteristics than the F-35 so its going to be a problem. There is no way that jet will outperform a F-22 or F-35 in any combat environment.

@mpogias13 Cost-efficient because it doesn't have the capability of the F-35. Its stealth is horrible, that'S why its so cheap. Russian weapons are always cheaper because they are not as good. In close dogfights, the F-35 can get a lock 360% anywhere around the aircraft so maneuverability is not needed, the F-35 again has the advantage.

Since you Yanks won't share the source code to anyone, meaning you could disable some,most or all weapon/radar systems of the aircraft remotely,in case the country you sold it to is attacking someone you don't want them to. This sounds good for you, but other countries want their militaries to be independent... What this means is the F-35 will sell MUCH less units that expected, and will never become a profitful project.

Looks good, flies like shit compared to other aircraft.
It could turn out to be a very good plane, but at the moment, on the info available, the F35 program is near a disaster. Over budget, over due, inferior to 4th gen Russian planes in VR combat (Wargame excercises in the Pacific), critics ranging from politicians to renowned aircraft designers, inferior to Su T-50.
Personnally, USA should get the F15SE (Stealth Eagle), cheaper, built on a magnificently sucessful system/design, got stealth or go for a F16 Stealth variant. Use 4++ gen for the moment

The F-35 has maybe 60% of the combat effectiveness of F-22. The T-50 was developed to counter the F-22, and although its a tad less stealthy than the F-35 (which doesnt affect 5th gen fighter warfare at all) (continuted)
