I disagree with your conclusion entirely. The Texans have an arsenal of draft picks, not to mention north of thirty million dollars in cap space for 2023. They have the potential to pair a young QB from the draft with a fresh minded head coach; Lovie and Culley were simply outdated scheme and culture wise. A young new head coach could easily mold the current/upcoming roster to fit their desires quite easily. You say the Texans head coaching job is probably the worst available but look at the other options on the board. The Colts are aging and injuries are creeping up, the Panthers probably can't get a QB until the 2024 Draft, Denver is stuck with an aging Russ and limited cap. Lastly Arizona is stuck with Kyler Murray and his massive extension. The Texans are only a bad destination through social disapproval.
I agree I don’t see us spending a lot in 23 but in 24 we’ll be in a prime position to be one of the NFLs most exciting teams and potential to sign multiple big time FAs next to a strong core with hopefully a good young QB and coach there’s a lot to be positive about for the Texans for the first time since the BOB era collapsed.
Imagine how good the team morale would be if they didn't fire Lovie. He did so much for this team despite the record. His players knew he had his back. I'd hire that guy in a second. New coach is gonna face some backlash but rightly so, bad management.
Y’all are blowing the back to back coach firing out of proportion. We wanted Brian Flores but he ended suing the league so we deferred to David Culley who was a WR coach before getting the job David Culley got fired for being terrible once again his only coaching experience was as WR ASSISTANT. so we decided to go with the next man up who Lovie Smith. Who haven’t had a winning record since 2012. 49ers did the exact same thing four new coaches in four years and guess who they landed on. Kyle Shannan. I’ll wait until we get a head coach hopefully Ben Johnson, Demeco Ryans, or Johnathan Gannon and a QB Bryce or CJ. Everything looks dysfunctional when the pieces aren’t in place.
Everyone saying Lovie won that game on purpose to stick it to the Texans and at the same time denouncing his firing sound ignorant!! If he won that game in order to "stick it" to the Texans then he should have been able to win more games. Which in turn would have guaranteed him his job.
The Texans were not stupid for firing Culley or Smith, they were stupid for hiring either of them in the first place. They are a horrible organization. But if you actually watched the games it was apparent it wasn't just the talent level. One of the more shocking things this year was how bad Pep Hamilton was as OC.
I honestly disagree with your take on the Texans, don’t get me wrong they aren’t a good organization. But it isn’t their fault Bill.OB literally quit on the team and said he was trying to get fired, lob sided trades, a franchise QB who literally tarnished his reputation in 27 lawsuits, being in cap hell for over 2 years with no draft picks, this wasn’t the fault of the people running the franchise now. In the 2/3 year window during all this the Texans managed to get 3 first rounders from the browns Derek stingley Jalen pitre Dameron pierce Turned tytus Howard into a good tackle Tunsil is a franchise Left tackle Nico Collins And John metchi ii in the wings 45M projected in cap space. And 2024 to have even more cap The Texans have done a lot with so little, I bash them for trying to tank and hiring coaches knowing they will fire them in the end, but this team does have a future with some talent to work with. If the Texans hire a good HC that changes that scheme that the players want to play, if they have a solid FA, and hit on their draft picks, this team can literally be on the rise.
The Texans should not change defensive schemes, they are built wonderfully as a Tampa 2 teams and they flashed as a good unit at times. With proper coaching and a decent offense to pair with it, that’s a team that could be a threat
Lovie Smith had the team playing as well as they possibly could, given the lack of talent. Ask the Cowboys and Chiefs about their Texan experience. I think once he knew they were going to turf him, he happily turfed their future. And good for him. He was only given that job because Houston got spooked by the Brian Flores lawsuit...and their target candidate was Josh McNown...a guy with zero head coaching experience outside of high school.
They lost very winnable games because of him and did worse this year then last and got better lovie sucks and was just a place holder until they got a better option
Its crazy there's all these complaints in people in a uproar that we have the # 2 overall pick because we won a game we had a horrible season. The #2 QB on the bord might actually turn out to be better then who they say is the # 1 QB 1 or 2 I actually don't think there's much a difference between picks
I could be reaching here but the Texans have been so unaccountable that them falling to 2 could be the reason Stroud doesn't come out for the draft because its almost ensured that Young goes #1 and he will either be drafted by Bears (doubt it but wont rule it out) or traded with another team (most likely). Stroud won't say that but if he doesn't come out I will believe this is the reason.
As a Cards/Texans fan. (yes I know I'm a fan of the 2 most disfunctional NFL teams *fml*) Texans never intended for Culley or Lovie to be long term. They were both bridge coaches to tank for picks. We Fired Culley because he lost the locker room and no one wanted to play for him after year 1. Lovie was not as good as people keep telling themselves. We had close games with KC and Dallas but STILL lost after having numerous opportunities to put away both games. We got bodied by JAX right after that. Phins would've put 70 on us if they didn't let off the gas after halftime. Lovie never made necessary adjustments in games when we were getting torched. In the NFL u have to make bold decisions. Lovie was not a good HC, We need a leader to get these picks right during our "rebuild." Nobody watched Texans games (tbf i wouldn't either if i wasn't a fan) WE WERE DISFUNCTIONAL. It all revolved around Lovie being incapable of being a good HC. I respect his leadership tho, players still fight for him thats why he replaced Culley.
@@ladarriusjennings8914 so he can stay in college, potentially lower his draft stock, and still go to a team that’s probably dysfunctional or in a rebuild? Lol
Honestly, who cares how long you keep a coach, people act like it’s so immoral how the Texans fired him, he went 3-13-1, it’s the NFL, if you lose the team has no obligation to keep you, 1 year or 10 years later who cares
Texans are complete disaster dealing with DW4.. hence why no one wanted to come to Houston in the first place. Now they have cap and draft capital and the supposedly dumpster fire have options of the best young offense and defense coordinators in the league even after firing 2 coaches back to back.. 🤔
This may be unpopular, but... I don't think the Texans have to take a QB this draft. Don't get me wrong, CJ Stroud and Bryce Young could both have shining careers ahead of them, or they could not. I think both are incredibly exciting and have good potential, but they're not the best prospects we've seen, and there are others coming through the ranks. Instead, I would take Will Anderson Jr. or Jalen Carter. Anderson, in my opinion, is the best player in the draft. He would add a lot of star power to the Texans' offence, and give them a strong game in a portion of football that you can never be too good at: pass rushing. Carter, thought, is probably the more rare of the two. Good Edges are becoming more and more common nowadays, but IDLs who can get pressure can be pretty hard to come by; the thick of the trenches is harder to pierce than running round the outside. He's the less flashy of the two picks, but I'd cautiously say the one harder to replicate elsewhere. Of course, landing CJ or Bryce would be far from a misstep. But either way, I think they have a path they can take. At second, they're only having one player off the board. There's still a couple of other great directions.
Our roster is a bit better then most people think, we just don't have positions that translate well into wins, a good o line, a solid young RB and some defensive pieces should hopefully be enough roster wise to entice a new head coach to sign with us. Especially when you consider the large cap space and good draft capital.
Disagree with Bill O Brien’s being successful at Texans. He had very talented rosters from offense to defense, had a chance to coach star players in their prime (Watson, Hopkins, Clowney, JJ Watt, Fuller etc.) but never won when it mattered. Never made the right play call when it mattered. Thats why he was mostly first round bye in the playoffs.
BOB destroyed this team and organization thru his awful decisions as GM . They were handcuffed in every way possible. .Now the team is free of that mess and just needs to keep losing Ana drafting good players for another season or two before a turnaround can happen . Culley and Smith were placeholders period . The media is making something out of nothing
Dude... he took over a 4-12 team with 3 winning seasons in franchise history. Yall need to stop acting like the texans were world beaters with matt shaub and kubiak. Hate billy, but as of now hes the most successful coach in texans history and theyve gotten worse since he left.
okay, there are a LOT of issues with this video. Unless you follow Houston, on a local level, you don't truly know what's going on in Houston. The future for Houston is actually very bright, we have cap space, draft picks and a few young drafted players that are actually pretty good. Houston is NOT the worst job available, it could be argued that the Cardinals might be the worst or the Broncos, as with the way their QB's are CURRENTLY playing is (you fill in the blank). Jack Easterby, whom is no longer with the team, thank math, was the orchestrator of a LOT of this garbage, including the coaches that were hired.
The Bears will probably f-up their draft. Poles couldn't even get a first rounder for Roquan and gave up essentially a first rounder for a #3 slot receiver.
you obviously never watched a game of Texans football this season. both coaches were terrible and were not getting hired anywhere else. David Culley and lovie smith should of never been hired not fired. You cant force a franchise to keep there coach based on skin color its about results on the field.
Honestly, I liked Lovie. It was a refreshing change of pace to have a defense-first leaning coach. The Tampa 2 scheme wasn't horrible and it gave us a chance to watch Jalen Pitre shine. As far as the next head coach, we don't need sean Payton. Kliff Kingsbury would be interesting but my go to pick would be Eric Bienemy. And the crazy thing is, he may actually be willing to take the job. It's 1 of 32 openings and it's a shame houston passed over him after just a couple interviews. With the second overall pick, Houston needs to select either Bryce Young or Will Anderson out of Alabama, whichever is available at number 2. Anderson could easily be a cornerstone pass rusher and reinvigorate defense. Young could easily be the QB of the future, as long as the team doesn't get leapfrogged like the jets did on Breece Hall or The Eagles did with Andre Dillard. Take whatever is available at number 2. And then with number 12 address the biggest position of need. I would settle for Will Anderson and CJ Stroud. But Bryce Young just provides such a potential spark plug, especially when paired with John Metchie iii. That tandem is dangerous. Maybe enough to persuade Brandin Cooks to stay? Metchie has huge upside but we have to have an outside deep threat. Maybe we get Stetson Bennet, Will Levis, or Max Duggan with a 3d or 4th round pick. We have free agency to get another runningback to pair with Dameon Pierce and help at Receiver. Maybe we break the bank and get Nuk back
People who don't actively follow the Texans won't realized this, but the last two coaching hires/fires have been fucked because of circumstance. They hired Culley to fire him (just like they would have with McCown imo) because they couldn't make any guarantees to the HC candidates that Watson would stay or still want to leave (regardless of the off the field stuff). No guarantee then no good prospects. Last year they fired Culley because they were going to hire Brian Flores (he was the front runner), they didn't because he sued the NFL. The Texans aren't a fuck the shield team so they stayed away from him (same thing happened in the draft with Sauce Gardner, as much as I hate it sometimes the Texans don't like flashy players, so Sauce and his big ass chain were a no go for the team). Lovie was hired because they already told Gannon no and you can't hire McCown (just to fire him) because the optics look bad.
you can tell that most of these people don’t pay attention to the texans so they’re just talking out of their ass about something they have no clue about.
What makes you think the bears would take a quarterback? Yes, a team could trade up with them, like the Carolina panthers, but I think the Texans are still in a good place. The bears have a great chance to pick from a couple great defenders like Will Anderson Jr. or Carter from Georgia. But, they have the best capital to move ahead of the bears if they choose to swap picks and offer some more help.
I've never understood why firing head coaches is so prevalent in the nfl. A bad team like houston is gonna have a worse chance at growing when any leadership is gone after a season.
@@whitewhale9012 no one wanted the job at the time because there was no cap space & no draft capital before the watson trade because bill o’buttchin RUINED THE TEAM.
As a Texans fan I called it. They hired 2 black coaches when the franchise was down badly, no talent, no cap room, no nothing. But when it started looking good for the Texans as 3 first round picks coming and the 3 best cap now to rebuild, then you fired your black coach for a white coach.
Lovie deserved another year. And it's not just the draft we need to get some free agents in with something left in the tank not just washed up at the tail end of their career we've got to get more quality veteran talent around our young guys. But players much like coaches may stay away because of the shit show that has become my favorite franchise
Lovie didn't last in Houston because of his defensive scheme. Also having a worse record than Culley with a slightly worse roaster. Fans also didn't like him
Lovie didn’t deserve another year the Texans were abysmal in multiple games especially the few ones that really mattered and the defense showed no signs of improvement despite having an injection of young talent and decent veterans in the off season. Misusing Stingley, Pierce, mishandling Kenyon Green, giving Rex Burkhead reps over Dare, not using any of the Waiver ads for over a month, poor clock management and in game management, not having a disciplined team. There’s multiple things that didn’t go right and Lovie wasn’t going to be the coach long term unless proven otherwise.
I would like to add that I sincerely doubt the Bears draft a QB when Fields is the least of their problems rn and has flashed potential The Texans winning and losing the first pick is hilarious but they’ll probably still get their choice of Stroud or Young unless someone trades up to #1
Lovie needed another chance. His defense wasn’t horrible and he was hindered by Pep Hamilton’s playcalling on offense that may be the worst I’ve ever seen in the NFL.
Lovie Smith has not had a successful coaching career, this is crazy. He was a stop-gap coach that was given a chance when no other team in the league would’ve made him head coach. This is what a rebuild looks like. It’s crazy a redskins fan is saying this when your owner literally pimped out your cheerleading staff.
Its BOB and Esterby that ruined the Texans. Nick didn't have 100% trust from McNair until Estaerby was fired last year. So now Texans is in Nick rebuilding areas. Texans will have no problems hire the coach they wanted.
I actually don’t think the Bears getting the first overall really affects Houston because the Bears don’t need a QB. They found their guy. They now just need to undo all the damage they did to the defense by trading away players like Khalil Mack and Roquan Smith.
Lovie was trash dude couldn’t even win at Illinois lmao, and dude just straight up hating on the Texans like if he don’t got a redskins flag behind him
Cal McNair is a terrible owner. As was his father. The Texans have had bad ownership from the Get Go. Bad ownership bleeds into everything else. If you have bad ownership you will have bad management and a bad team to go with it. The Texans will not be a good team until the McNair 's sell the team to better owners.
Umm the Chicago Bears aren't drafting a QB when they already have superstar Justin Fields. If they just fucking build around him they'll go far so you're very wrong about that. They will take Will Anderson or trade and just get good players but not a QB
I think the bears might trade the first pick because they really don’t need a qb since they have Justin fields. So I think they could get a BUCKETLOAD of draft picks for the first pick.
I doubt Smith and Culley didn’t know their tenure was gonna be short lived… They’re both old and the team must’ve been transparent with what the plan was They likely had their eye on one of the top coaching candidates last years and when it didn’t work out, they just gave it to the most qualified guy in the building They were never gonna become a great team under Lovie Smith and since they’re almost guaranteed to take a QB with their top pick, it makes sense that they want a young offensive minded coach to lead the team going forward I wouldn’t say the Texans are a mess (anymore)… They got a great return for DeShaun Watson, have made some pretty good picks and have built a good culture (Seriously, they played really hard down the stretch for a team with almost no roster talent)
The Texans not getting the first pick does not disable their rebuilding. Anyone who thinks so is simply as shortsighted and incapable of harvesting good potential from "3rd or 4th round quality players" just as Lovie was trying to do
I love how smith knew he was getting fired so he won that last game so they didn’t get the first pick lol

Mf making videos like this for views don’t do that level of research. Love his stuff but he missed with the is one
This is gonna age like milk this franchise blows donkey 🍆

Imagine how good the team morale would be if they didn't fire Lovie. He did so much for this team despite the record. His players knew he had his back. I'd hire that guy in a second. New coach is gonna face some backlash but rightly so, bad management.
There's a reason no other team than the Texans hired him.
his players wanted him gone too, but you didn’t know that because you don’t pay attention to the team.

Haha you would hire him in a second? Who’s your Team? You’re just running your cock sucker for the sake of getting praised 🤣🤣🤣
Y’all are blowing the back to back coach firing out of proportion.
We wanted Brian Flores but he ended suing the league so we deferred to David Culley who was a WR coach before getting the job
David Culley got fired for being terrible once again his only coaching experience was as WR ASSISTANT. so we decided to go with the next man up who Lovie Smith.
👏👏👏
Thank you Lovie, much respect from Chicago!
The Texans were not stupid for firing Culley or Smith, they were stupid for hiring either of them in the first place. They are a horrible organization. But if you actually watched the games it was apparent it wasn't just the talent level. One of the more shocking things this year was how bad Pep Hamilton was as OC.
Pep needs to go.
Finally somebody that ACTUALLY watched the games.
Sometimes I hate being a Texans fan.
But hey, at least my wife doesn't have to question mt strength of loyalty 🤣🤣
I honestly disagree with your take on the Texans, don’t get me wrong they aren’t a good organization. But it isn’t their fault Bill.OB literally quit on the team and said he was trying to get fired, lob sided trades, a franchise QB who literally tarnished his reputation in 27 lawsuits, being in cap hell for over 2 years with no draft picks, this wasn’t the fault of the people running the franchise now. In the 2/3 year window during all this the Texans managed to get
3 first rounders from the browns
Derek stingley
Jalen pitre
Dameron pierce
Turned tytus Howard into a good tackle
Tunsil is a franchise Left tackle
Nico Collins
And John metchi ii in the wings
45M projected in cap space. And 2024 to have even more cap
The Texans have done a lot with so little, I bash them for trying to tank and hiring coaches knowing they will fire them in the end, but this team does have a future with some talent to work with.
If the Texans hire a good HC that changes that scheme that the players want to play, if they have a solid FA, and hit on their draft picks, this team can literally be on the rise.
Hit it right on the head my guy
The Texans should not change defensive schemes, they are built wonderfully as a Tampa 2 teams and they flashed as a good unit at times. With proper coaching and a decent offense to pair with it, that’s a team that could be a threat
Trading Hopkins wasn’t a bad move for the Texans, he wanted a huge contract. You need to realize the NFL is a business
Lovie is a successful coach? Look up his record the last 20 years as an HC dude.
The fact u think the bears are taking a QB is wild

@@MustacheDLuffy that's what I'm thinking
Lovie Smith had the team playing as well as they possibly could, given the lack of talent. Ask the Cowboys and Chiefs about their Texan experience. He was only given that job because Houston got spooked by the Brian Flores lawsuit...and their target candidate was Josh McNown...a guy with zero head coaching experience outside of high school.
the texans didn’t want him, jack easterby wanted him, & he’s gone now. learn the facts instead of spouting lies.

Its crazy there's all these complaints in people in a uproar that we have the # 2 overall pick because we won a game we had a horrible season. The #2 QB on the bord might actually turn out to be better then who they say is the # 1 QB 1 or 2 I actually don't think there's much a difference between picks
I love you dawg but this was kind of an L take on the Texans.
I could be reaching here but the Texans have been so unaccountable that them falling to 2 could be the reason Stroud doesn't come out for the draft because its almost ensured that Young goes #1 and he will either be drafted by Bears (doubt it but wont rule it out) or traded with another team (most likely). Stroud won't say that but if he doesn't come out I will believe this is the reason.
umm, this aged badly.

Where do you think it came from?
Lovie Smith should have been nowhere near an NFL head coaching position after his disasters with the Bucs and Illinois
Lovie didn’t get fired because of the season performance. He was fired because of his week 18 win
False
As a Cards/Texans fan. (yes I know I'm a fan of the 2 most disfunctional NFL teams *fml*)
Texans never intended for Culley or Lovie to be long term.
Lovie was not a good HC, We need a leader to get these picks right during our "rebuild."
Nobody watched Texans games (tbf i wouldn't either if i wasn't a fan) WE WERE DISFUNCTIONAL. It all revolved around Lovie being incapable of being a good HC. I respect his leadership tho, players still fight for him thats why he replaced Culley.
And now CJ Stroud might not even apply for the draft too!
If I were him, I wouldn’t either.

I would just stay at college for another year, let another guy be the sacrificial lamb as a #2 overall QB.
@@ladarriusjennings8914 so he can stay in college, potentially lower his draft stock, and still go to a team that’s probably dysfunctional or in a rebuild? Lol
@@jamesharden3timedpoy466 Anything but the Texans at this point.
The media is making something out of nothing
exactly, but it’s easier for them to go with the racist narrative, even though we had a black gm for over a decade.
Dude... he took over a 4-12 team with 3 winning seasons in franchise history.

okay, there are a LOT of issues with this video.
Nice analysis. Just sad as a houstonian. We just have bad ownership and management
As a Houstonian you should know this video is full of BS
The Bears will probably f-up their draft. Poles couldn't even get a first rounder for Roquan and gave up essentially a first rounder for a #3 slot receiver.

Houston started to struggle as soon as the got rid of Rick Smith.
they didn’t get rid of him, there was a family issue & he left on his own.
Brian gains had the greatest offseason in Texans history. That’s my response to that
Houston started to struggle as soon as they hired Jack Easter Egg.

Lovie deserved another year. And it's not just the draft we need to get some free agents in with something left in the tank not just washed up at the tail end of their career we've got to get more quality veteran talent around our young guys. I doubt Smith and Culley didn’t know their tenure was gonna be short lived… They’re both old and the team must’ve been transparent with what the plan was
They likely had their eye on one of the top coaching candidates last years and when it didn’t work out, they just gave it to the most qualified guy in the building
They were never gonna become a great team under Lovie Smith and since they’re almost guaranteed to take a QB with their top pick, it makes sense that they want a young offensive minded coach to lead the team going forward
I wouldn’t say the Texans are a mess (anymore)… They got a great return for DeShaun Watson, have made some pretty good picks and have built a good culture (Seriously, they played really hard down the stretch for a team with almost no roster talent)
I bet Da Bears trade that #1 pick (+ a couple later ones) to the Raiders for the #7 overall and their second rounder. 🧐
This is unrelated but Brian Flores deserves another head coaching job
The Texans not getting the first pick does not disable their rebuilding. Anyone who thinks so is simply as shortsighted and incapable of harvesting good potential from "3rd or 4th round quality players" just as Lovie was trying to do
