Welcome to the Upcycle Design Lab. I craft with recycled, repurposed, and unwanted materials. There is a lot of experimenting with trash and recyclables to make them "new" again. If you enjoy reusing repairing and re-imagining old items, I hope you will stick around and check out some of my other Upcycling tutorials and join those of us who are rethinking the things we throw away.

Yay! I think I just found a winner out of all the other plastic bag repurposing vids I watched 2day. Now I think this might solve the problem of where to find/buy material to make a poncho or rain slicker kind of covering for my Chiweenie! Thank you so much 4 sharing this creative & super cute looking idea/project w/us!
Thanks for watching. Have fun making your chiweenie poncho. 🙂
Thanks for inspiring people to re-use these flimsy menaces, that destroys and kills so much wildlife. You are an artist making stunningly beautiful pieces of art out of garbage! 💕
Thanks so much Sara.
Wow what an idea! I remember a lady who filled fourteen pillows plastic bag strips and gifted to her dear ones. May she rest in peace. You have great creative mind👌🥰
Thanks 😊
Love the mushroom bag! Very cool! This looks like a fun project. When I'm done being one-handed maybe I'll try it.
Thanks Kathy - I must confess that I did not make the mushroom bag. My sister is the real plastic bag artist and she gave it to me as a gift. It is Alice in Wonderland themed and I love it too. :-)
@@UpcycleDesignLab it's absolutely fabulous! I wondered if perhaps she made it since you've shown her bags before. You are two very talented sisters.
Wow- I din't know you could fuse so many layers in one go- that is very time saving.
Thanks for watching 😊
This video was great help for my FCCLA project! I'm doing it based on reusable fabrics and plastic waste prevention and this definitely helped with using all my extra grocery bags :)
Hi I am happy you found the video helpful. If you like reusing plastic bags you might also enjoy this video tutorial on how to make rope/cording from plastic bags. ua-cam.com/video/_txVAxNKVRw/v-deo.htmlsi=mEMeHD4uRTDAL9JL
Thank this is exactly what I was looking for I’m gonna use it as a cloth diaper liner. I just wanted to see if it was doable or try it myself if there weren’t any videos. Thank you so much. 🥰
Thanks for watching. I am happy it helped.
This is genius! Thank you for sharing Queen 😊
Thanks for watching 🙂
You are exactly who I was looking for
Thanks for watching 😊
Love this idea! Will have to wait to do this in a well ventilated area tho.
Yes you do want to make sure you have good air. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the class blessings

@@UpcycleDesignLab your welcome 🤗
Thank you!!
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely terrific job! Beautiful! Useful! And totally inspiring!
I hated plastic bags wholeheartedly until now. Where I live, you actually have to buy these flimsy bags at the check out and I would never do that because I always bring my own bags when I go shopping. I hate anything one-time-use-plastic very much, it's so wasteful and pointless.
Well, now maybe I have to go against my convictions and buy plastic bags the next time 😂
Thanks for watching 😊
Brilliant!!! Will be doing this!!!
Thanks! :-)
Wonderful ideas, thank you 😊
Thanks 😊
End product looks like "pvc". 👍

It is rainy in Los Angeles, CA because of the storm. Have some light weight but outdated wind breakers, many baseball caps and clothing of that sort. Just wonder if people recycling and converting them into rain ponchos using plastic bags, hot iron, hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, and parchment papers. I believe that it can be quite easy, creative, and practical.
Hi I haven't done that but I have seen other folks make raincoats. Thanks for watching. 🙂
Love the mushroom bag ? How did you make it? Will normal sewing machine cope? Thank you.
Hi thanks for watching. Yes you can sew the plastic bag "fabric" with a regular sewing machine.
@@UpcycleDesignLab Thanks !!
so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks 😊
Amazing❤❤❤❤

On the 90s during goth and punk days u coukd buy nice pocketbook made from recycled tires. Very expensive but last forever! WITH these shopping bags..I woukd use them for cat litter. I need them but can't get them anymore so now I have to buy them. What's the point of supermarkets stopping using them..now I need to buy them! I get it. I'm a recycling freak. I recycle everything..but I need my garbage bags.
We don't allow plastic grocery bags in our state anymore either so they are harder to come by.
Is it just grocery bags that you can use? I was thinking of the plastic tablecloths since there is a variety of colors. 🤔
Hi Darla - Yes you can use plastic table clothes. You will want to test the plastics that you are mixing because some melt at different rates and will not work very well together.
Exelente ideia, quero aprender a fazer estes objetos. Isto acaba com tanto lixo. Como vc fez os vasos? Parabens. Me dá uma idéia para fazer isto para alunos do colégio fazer. Uma idéia bonita e que eles irão gostar.
Hi thanks so much for watching and commenting. Here is a link to the tutorial for the little plastic pots ua-cam.com/video/8gz_hKpVKBc/v-deo.html
I was thinking this could be a useful way to make raincoats for your dog and pets, and even yourself. I too am thinking it could make water proof diaper bags and umbrellas! Can mylar bags be used in the same way to make tarps or sleeping bags for heat like for survival? How about waterproof tents for the homeless or for camping?
Lots of great ideas thanks for sharing and watching. 😊
I always have the issue where it all shrinks too much and gets "holes" .....thoughts?
Hi - In my experience the material does always shrink some. But I would try using less heat and a few more layers of plastic. Hope that helps.
hi I'm just curious, how strong is it? can I carry heavy things in a bag made with it? thanks
Hi it depends on how many layers of bags you use but I would say that eight layers of plastic makes a pretty strong fabric. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. 🙂
Iron on med to med hight heat
Yes that is a good place to start.
🤩🤩👏👏👏👏
Thanks 😊
At what temperature must one set the iron?
Hi Francis - I would start with a med high heat but you will probably have to test out your iron. It also depends on what plastic you are using and how many layers. Sorry I don't have an exact answer for you. Thanks for watching 😊
@@UpcycleDesignLab , thanks for replying
Is this toxic? Does the plastic release fumes when running the iron over it?
Hi - I don't know for certain but I do recommend working in a well ventilated area. Thanks for watching.
Yes it does. Work outside if possible.
Yes.
Wow, so beautiful but how durable is it
Hi thanks. It has held up really well if you are asking but about the shoulder bag. The plastic is quite sturdy. You can wear off the patterns if the item is exposed to a lot of abrasion or sunlight but otherwise it will last a long time. Thanks for watching. 🙂
