The dialouge and acting still left a lot to be desired, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me smile ear to ear the whole time. It felt like watching it all over again 30 years ago.
Kat is married to Tommy. She mentions JJ, their son from the comics.
I believe Space Patrol Alpha is meant to be an earlier incarnation of SPD, given it's name, logo and how they make reference to SPD's villains.

Honestly, it was a 40 minute long fireworks celebration in Power Rangers' honor and I couldn't have asked for more.
I mean, I COULD have pitched this huge Shattered Grid gathering of all the Ranger teams with tons of fan service and stuff...so I should say I couldn't have asked for more, that wouldn't have turned into a quagmire mess.

If I'm not mistaken, JDF retired from the franchise because he was frustrated with Saban Productions and later Hasbro as he wanted to do a Tommy stand-alone film but was never given the okay and that's why he did Legend of the White Dragon.

Seems it's pretty obvious that Kat and Tommy are married at this point. She mentions needing to get home to JJ, their son.
I expected a lot more from that special, it easily could have been two parts.
As someone else mentioned, they may have been testing the water for something bigger.
David Yost has been pitching a limited series for years called MMPR Qauntem Continuim. I think that Once and Always more than proves that there is a market for this, and I think that it should be green lit.

They say "We'll say hello to her" but not really sure what that means.

@PomeloRetro I should rewatch that scene. I'm sure they mention her by name and the implication could be a relationship. But I could be wrong. Time to rewatch the special!

One thing I didn't notice until this viewing was that when Alpha brings out the invisibility devices he has instinctively gathered six of them despite only needing four.
Obviously this serves a double purpose as it allows Minh to acquire one but I thought it was a nice touch.
I am very late to the party. I just watched it last night. I typically have an aversion to sequels that come out years later. The biggest problem I see with it is really the missing rangers. Power Rangers has always been about the team. I know there are reasons they couldn't get the band back together, but not having the whole team there to react to Trini's death was just a massive blow to the story. Jason is their leader. How does he react to losing someone for real this time? Remember how he reacted to not being able to save Tommy's power? How angry he got when the same almost happened to the other 4 rangers? That's a reaction you need. Kimberly was her best friend. That's a reaction you need. The whole team should have been at Trini's house to tell her daughter, because that's the way it would have happened in the show. Oh and Rita shows up at her grave site and we don't get to see that reaction?? This monster who killed Trini had the audacity to show up on the anniversary of the day she killed her and gloat?? I would have given anything to see that initial emotional response. But we didn't get that. In fact, they were quite quippy which is another issue. I refer back to that moment Jason had to save his friends from suffering the same fate as Tommy. You know what he said during his next fight scene? Nothing. Not even a cheesy heroic statement. It solidified how angry he was. I don't want to get off on a tangent about poorly placed humor, but I would have much rather seen how the team dealt with this event and not just 2/5 rangers. Would there be conflict? How would they rally back into action? Does anyone besides Minh become revenge driven? Heck, does their age play a factor? Do they feel they might be getting too slow? Maybe in their youth Trini's death could have been avoided? Again, Power Ranger has always been about the team, and we just didn't get that here. It really leaves a lot on the table. The special really suffers because of that. Honestly, maybe an animated special would have been a better way to go using the voices of everyone plus motion capture for the stunts. It's not that I don't appreciate what they wanted to do, I do... but you can't leave this much on the table when it comes to something like this.
I think the thing you're seeing as a cell phone in the buzz blast report is the peg hole and bar of a piece of work out equipment, like a pull down machine, that the camera operator is hiding behind.

In reference to the buzz blast news report: I think it is not a phone. It just so happen there is a dot that resembles a camera, but you can see that the reporter ran out of "cellphone" frame when she was attacked by the putty. i guess it is just one of the furnitures.
Yea it just looks like a pipe or pool. Like a weight bench. Idk how he got so confused lol
I enjoyed it for what it was, a nice piece of nostalgia. I’d like a mini series, have the rest of the remaining MM rangers involved. I’m sure there’s a way to get round all the power swapping they’d need to do constantly. I’d quite like to see this for other ranger teams like In Space for example. It was neat

It’s the motor cycle. It’s the same motor cycle used by Jason in forever red, by mentor Ji in samurai and mega force, and I can’t remember the other time but there’s at least one more I think it might be Nick in mystic force
considering that tommy has a son now and cat mentioned being with him before coming to the command center, i would guess they are married.
i think in the buzzblast broadcast that thing you saw was not suppose to be a phone frame. i think maybe it was a support beam for stirs or railing. maybe part of a exercise equipment. i feel that if the thing was meant to be a phone frame, then the camera man wouldn't move and have part of it over the reporter's face.

It was fun, and theres got to be a profitable market with a budget that gets any ranger to return. That being said I want a series with better writing if it were a series.

I quite liked it, everyone involved seemed to really care and that is very important in a project like this. I do think if they really wanted to make up for what happened to David Yost they'd just make Billy gay. I hope we get one of these for Jason David Frank.

There’s actually a Dai Zyujin UA-cam channel, which may or may not be the same guy. Either way, that guy should work on Power Rangers at some point. I saw some of his videos, and they’re really good.
It would've been great if it ended with Billy managing to restore Zordon.
In the original MMRP, the coins were a part of the crystals, you can see them sometimes when you see the cockpit footage and their hands aren't on the crystals, very very infrequently. In the context of the special, Billy may have just put fake coins on the crystals for decoration and a legacy to the original.
They make the mistake a couple of times. But most of the time they're sat down so you can't see the morpher. (Ie. It's on the crystal while operating the zord and the morpher should be empty - then it returns to the morpher aftwrwards). I don't think they ever bothered with the continuity.

I don’t really care about the practical or technical perspective of Zordon’s status. I like Once & Always because it felt like both Billy & Mihn needed to learn to move on from what they’ve lost. Cosmic Fury kind of messed that up for Billy, but this special almost nailed it for me. Zordon isn’t gone because science, he’s gone because story.
Okay so Billy already fixed his aging in the original series and he is still together, they say at the end he'll go back to Aquitar soon. And bulk and skull were already back on earth in Forever Red and Samurai but more so Bulk because Skull never went
A huge portion of people watching this will have never seen Samurai and Forever Red breaks cannon.

I know I’m late but I would like to put my two cents in, point some stuff out and theory’s. First Kat and Tommy should be married at this point in time since Kat made a reference to JJ Tommy’s son. Second I don’t think Billy and his aquitar girlfriend didn’t really have a falling out it’s said at the end that his girlfriend missies him so it could just be a long distance thing or they broke up Billy went back to earth but got back together at later date. Third I’m not sure how Bulk got back to earth but we did see him before in power rangers samurai and in that series Bulk and Skull seem to have not seen each other for a long time so maybe some time after they made the business but it is likely that the person who made that reference didn’t have samurai in mind. Fourth I know it isn’t major but I love how they even referenced Ernie at the end Billy saying if the have his old recipe it was quick but I really appreciate it. Fifth just person preference I really like this special I think it was a really good way to expand the canon universe and give old fans some good nostalgic references.

To be fair I rather believe Amy Jo Johnston herself than some rumors from fanboys that were salty that she didn't want to be pandex at her age while being busy with her own projects. Actors are not required to be in so anything if they don't want to just because some whiny fanboys demand it.

I missed the sparks during combat. They add a lot of flair, and we can't exactly have power rangers dismembering their opponents with each strike.

Did you watch Power Rangers Samurai? Both Bulk and Skull are in it and on Earth. Also only Bulk left the Earth, and was back with Skull in Forever Red. For Zordon’s sake, you review all of this and seem to surprised that Bulk is on Earth. Zordon is DEAD. Deal with it. He was no longer in a time Warp when he left in Turbo. Kat and Tommy are married. Eee the Zeo Flashforward Christmas special, also They leave Dimensions in Danger holding hands, and she lovingly says his name while reaching for the captured version which Billy stops her from touching, and She talks about being JJ’s mother.
IMO this is a testing bed, to see if there's an "adult" market for the older show fans over the kids who move on after maybe two seasons. I really would like to see this developed more into a "Senior Rangers" show, it would have zero limitations on casting, especially Space Patrol Alpha now.
Yeah. I can't see them bringing Zordon back in any other capacity but they've laid the groundwork for any villain or ally to come back.
I was so excited for this special and left feeling kinda meh. It was fun to see all the references and stuff but there are some things that could be improved. First of all, the acting.... david yost wasnt even trying. Everyone else are still doing the goofy highschool play level acting. Yeesh.
Also the moment with the gay guys was.... awful. I wouldve rewritten that scene with this: those two men are attacked and BOTH of them are fighting off the Putties but are being overwhelmed then the girl drives to them helps fight the remaining, she hops back in her car and flies off while the two embrace, quick kiss and run off to before more danger arrives. Why did they have a 6 foot big ass black man screaming for help from a 90 pound teenager? Even if they're gay, they were still big dudes, they should've been fighting. Overall, it was fine i guess. Im just happy Ron Wasserman is back.

Nah, this was a transparent cash grab. It's low key disrespectful how they were playing off of Thuy Trang's death for a plot point. It's great that MMPR has its reverence maintained in the franchise, but it's not the only season that exists and it's a slog to get through on rewatches. This felt like a student project that got green lit for a budget, a hot mess.
I think the special was a great comeback for MMPR fans.
This is the MOST Original Footaged Special since Forever Red! Nite: Megaforce and it's Super Season hokd the Record for being made up of MORE Sentai Footage, than Original Foorage, with Ultra Power being the Epusode tgat is MORE Sentai Footage in the Franchise's History.

I felt that the level of cringe was not as bad, but there were some VERY cringy scenes nonetheless.

How, all because it had a cameo of two characters that happen to be LGBT? considering what happened to David Yost (who is gay. He plays Billy, the original Blue Ranger) during his time working on the show back in the 90s (homophobic abuse from the cast and crew) I think it’s about time the franchise made it up to him. With Izzy, Fern, the cameo and hopefully more in the future 🤞🏻 then, Michael Taber confirmed on Twitter a good while ago that he played Riley from Dino Charge as gay and having a crush on Chase. Caleb Bandit also confirmed the same thing with his character of Monty, as gay and having a crush on Victor. Also, look through RangerWiki as there are multiple LGBTQ+ characters in Super Sentai and RiderWiki as there are multiple LGBTQ+ characters in Kamen Rider too. You’re obvs new to the toku medium and have clearly not experienced enough Rider and Sentai.

Once and Always was so bad. I get the idea and I appreciate Netflix trying to reach the power Ranger fans, but good lord it was misery. No one can act, and the dialogue was so gross and forced that I have a hard believing it would get approved through an editing team.
