I just learned about Pigeon Mountain about a year ago. Me and a buddy went up to find Ellison's cave and we made it all the way to the first warm-up pit inside the cave. There are so many Mysteries all over this mountain and we want to find them but damn you got to walk to find the good stuff
@joshhigdon4951 I have actually heard that too and some people say that all the caves and the hollowness in the mountain it's from the volcano long long ago.
Pigeon Mountain tunnel is UNSAFE to enter. Rock falls from the roof were common when the railroad was in operation. I knew a couple of engineers who ran on the TAG after Southern took over. They reported that it wasn’t uncommon to hear falling rocks striking the locomotive when passing through the tunnel.
Fabulous!! I walk the old lines here in the UK. Your tunnels are a completely different shape to ours. Your trains are so much bigger. A beautiful video
Wow! Neat RailRoad Tunnel!! They have abandoned most of the railroads in our area of Northern Michigan when the iron mines closed many years ago. I live next to one of the few RR's left. They haul some cargo and logs to the paper mills.
It would be interesting to see a video about the Victorian era channel tunnel , over a century before the current one was built, I can't remember why it was abandoned, I saw an old documentary ages ago, I think part of it still remains .
Can you find me info on finding it? We parked at the railroad crossing but couldn't see a trail. We saw the silver buildings that say batteries on them. Where is the trail in relation to these?

I actually just found this mountain yesterday on a drive! Didn't spot this though! (though I did find a really gorgeous blue hole and I believe the large vertical cave. How long of a hike was it?
I didn't go all the way as it was just so wet in there but went about half way. The other end is private land I think so didn't want to trespass either. Thanks for watching!
That was awesome. :) I try and travel to GA at least once or twice a year to do some hiking and exploring. Florida is great, but it's fun to get in the mountains every once in awhile. :)
I think outdoor recreation permits to hike somewhere were set up for the future as part of Agenda 21 which is currently being fulfilled. They had to put it in the minds of the people that the government can keep you out of the wilderness and in the city. People should buy my "Impact" a James Grider novel on Amazon so I can afford to move out of the scrub desert into a wooded area like that.
That is so cool. To think i don't really live that far from there (roughly about 15m. north). Was lastly operated by the Chattooga & Chickamauga as far south as Kennsington (not very far north from where you were) where there used to be a chemical plant. When it closed and was torn down they abandoned the rest of the line since there was no other businesses being served on the route. Always feel sad when i'm over toward west side of the valley (just outside Chattanooga, TN.) and see crossings with the signals gone. #RIPTAG 😞😪
I didn't see any signs when I visited and I think the other side of the tunnel is on private land. I hiked along the railroad grade where pigeon mountain wildlife management area which i thought was open to public of course you do need an outdoor recreation permit to hike on pigeon mountain.

Local legend has it that pigeon is an inactive volcano, last erupting in the late 19th century.

RailGa is no longer active but when you use the internet archive you can access it
I live 20 minutes from this tunnel and just went through it for the first time today. It’s amazing inside.
that is pretty cool, glad you got to experience it!
Did you go all the way through it?
Would you happen to know the coordinates of the tunnel, I would love to explore!
Where is that vid
Did you go all the way through it? I've been there but want to go back prepared with lights. 🙂

In Australia most of the abanoned railroad tunnels are used for growing mushrooms and have locked gates.
Would this be an easy hike for kids? How far from where you had to park was the actual tunnel?
VERY cool! thanks!

That was a really great find! I hope I can get up that way and hike sometime. Thanks for sharing!
Rail trails are my favorite. Never know what you'll find from the past. Excellent still shots!

That is a fantastic! You were literally stepping back in time.
21stcenturyexpeditionist Yes...just think of the people who built it and travelled through it over 100 years ago. So cool.
You do get that sense of history in these places, i just stand there and take it all in.
Joe, I have been there a few times. Got a friend of mine that lives about a mile from there.

This line ran from Chattanooga to Gadsden AL
How far of a hike is it?
This is super cool - did u dare go much farther to see what was at the other end? I am really curious -

U. Hinson I put some links in the description that may help you just start searching for tag tunnel you'll find it

Yeah...that plant was huge. Stumbled across it one day. Is the line still in the ground?
I thought this was off limits now? I was just there and a man told me it was private land
