I agree. For Detroiters of a certain age, this commercial is absolute gold. I've never seen it played where the audience didn't sway and sing along. I know that back in the day, Faygo was selling it on CD-R for a few bucks.
I hate to break it to everyone. But the Faygo add is not on the Boblo Boat, and never was. It was filmed in Florida. I think people associated it with Boblo since the day it first came out.
Bill Kennedy was the afternoon host of Channel 9, "Bill Kennedy at the Movies". He would smoke on the show, go downstairs to his "wax museum", and get out some "crummy" Grade B movie. When we were in grade school (the long ago 1960's!), on Christmas vacation, we would watch the show, and of course....Somerset, Secret Storm, etc.! Don't forget "Rita Bell's Prize Movie" ($5 went a long way in 1966!), George Pierrot Presents, Sir Graves Ghastly, Woodrow the Woodsman, Captain Detroit, SonyEliot, et. al...! And Vernor's Ginger Ale....oh, society was different then!
I had the privilege to go to Boblo a few times as a kid. It was a fun family get away and the ferry boats were amazing!! Always with music and dancing.
Former "Hot Fudge" children's show host & singer Larry Santos sang the radio commercial part "Sittin' in the grass, you're troubles passed away" & the singers sang "One day island holiday".
THIS should be restored and be part of the Bring Back Boblo Island campaign. It would be SO EFFECTIVE. The Detroit companies of Faygo & Better Maid & others should be included and should profit accordingly. Detroit NEEDS this. 😎
Boblo was great. They should've never put boats in Detroit. The violence, rapes, stabbings and shootings on the Detroit boats signaled the end to what was a great amusement park. In contrast the Gibraltar boat had twice as many unaccompanied kids and never had any of the violence or sexual assaults.
Interesting news. I've lived in Detroit 60 years and never knew about all that going on on the Detroit Boats. Grew up watching the news. It's a shame they didn't report these goings on. Must have been gang violence. They rarely report that.
Bull shit. The reason why Bobolo closed was because Cedar Point and Kings Island were the contemporary parks that people gravitated to more. I've been on.those ferry many times and never experienced or seen those issues.
I wish someone would Restore this video. This brings back so many Childhood memories. I can remember riding the Boats to and from Boblo as a kid.
Why would anyone waste their time and money restoring it???
I agree that they should restore it. I was born and raised in Detroit. I have been to Boblo a hundred times. I really miss it a lot also.

The Actor Harold Peary was honored by then California Governor Earl Warren after his 10,000 hour of radio broadcasts. A feat still unparalleled
Love Peary's laugh. Soooo memorable!! And I miss the Boblo boat rides and Boblo island.
Boblo, Faygo, and a Channel 50 throw-in. Love it.
What about WXON Channel 20 and their Thriller Double Feature. Or WDIV's Count Scary?
Or Detroit's best radio station... WLLZ ..
@@gintokisakata1917 wheels!
See
Wonderful memories 😃
At the end of the school year in middle school our band would go to Boblo and I loved it.
Anyone else remember Bill Kennedy on TV 50?
Yes, one of my faves. There are a couple clips here, if you search his name.

My favorite Faygo is grape. Good times, good memories!! 😉💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Grape was THE original Faygo flavor. First one ever made.

Hal Peary, The Great Gildersleeve!
My cousin Paul West wrote for that show and many more. He was called The Dean Of Comedy Writers.

He also wrote and hand delivered W.C. Fields last radio broadcast.
@@lindad.7642 Oh, very interesting! I usually listen to a Great Gildersleeve episode at least once a week before I go to bed.

Uh no. No it wouldn't and no it doesn't need it.
The the song writer has 2 mite verses to this song.. it would be cool to hear the complete song.
Huh?
I want to rebuild one and build a island that we can go too amusement
Was that English?
There should've been a theme park in Detroit called Faygoland ❤️😁 It would've made Disneyland/Disney World look like a joke.
How so?
@@detroitdiezel7856 it would've been something Juggalos would appreciate.

This is complete bullshit and full of lies. None of that ever happened.
