- In this episode, the boys take you through the steps of installing lowered springs. Using the MCM Fan Funded show car (Daihatsu Cuore 'MIGHTY MIRA'), the boys drop some height, but will their JDM 17's still fit?

when Subaru's have a knocking sound it usually means that they is something wrong with the engine. (to put it simply)
+Brett Sanders Knocking being bad applies to almost everything, not just Subaru. As far as I know, some diesels are the only engines where knocking is normal.

Gimme a weekend job with mates any day, but working in a shop is an entirely different story.

So plan too do this soon, thanks for the insight of what I'm getting into and doing. You guys lowered the car from what I can tell, 7cm, 2.7 inches, which is technically way more then I'm dropping my car, so my wheels should still fit, hopefully. 1.25 inch(3.175cm) drop.

camber is dependent on a horizontal axis while ride height is on a vertical axis so if you want camber to remain the same even though the car is lower then you have to mark it

Also worth noting that depending on the car you may need other suspension components when lowering (like camber plates, control arms, ect) to get the alignment right.

I seriously hate the looks of that car, BUT it's a shit ton of fun to drive and I love your show. Keep it up.
Not necessarily, but it you run lowered springs on stock shocks you will reduce their lifetime. Also the driving experience may become bouncy but this varies from car to car. Best to check on a forum with modding enthusiasts for your car.

I'm sure that if you put lowering springs (or cut springs) on stock shocks you can end up blowing your shocks after a few months? Correct me if i'm wrong.

Coil overs have the strut, springs, dampers and shocks built in.

It's amazing how lowering a car a few inches makes the car look so much cleaner!
I just did this and the hardest part was removing the top strut hat. The nut kept spinning. You have to use a go through socket (a socket and wrench with a hole in the middle). You to use a hex key thru the socket/wrench to stop the shaft from spinning. If you use an impact wrench you run the risk of spinning the shaft. Don't use a vice grip to hold the shaft unless you plan on throwing the strut away. Most people will not have this tool and autozone/oreilly didn't have it. Harbor tools > $21

Here in Brazil we need to put in the car of the document that the characteristics were changed and pay $ 200 at the DMV , if u dont do this, your car is towed and pay a lot of thing to be able to get the car out of the police station.... im using the google translator....lol

if u cut th springs get th end wher u cut flattened so it doesnt put strain on 1 side of yor strut/shock & get shortend shocks or get yor stock shock shortend so the spring is captive.i did this 2 my R30,its 60mm off the ground & not stiff like factory lowered springs & 2 make springs captive,i got 75mm cut off and re-threaded .to know how much to cut u hav2 measure top of strut 2 top of spring after been cut while jacked up and add 10mm.the bump stop will need trimming too,haha.

I'd recommend coilovers. Because lowered springs are not made for your original suspension and they will be useless after a couple months.
dang wel i love these videos cause im buying a honda civic pretty soon and it needs a new head gasket so its a fixer upper but i was wondering if u guys could make a video about how to put a new head gasket on a honda civic please it would help but anyways i love this youtube channel it helps a lot when u wanna do something to your car and with great description

With my current spring/shock combo, I don't even need spring compressors haha. Although, a mild lowering spring or stock springs should DEFINITELY be compressed. Those can be fatal.

Bimmer* and no, e30's are expensive because people love them, not because the parts are expensive to make. if you buy an e36 they are cheap. cost as much to buy parts for as a domestic rig... i have to redo the exhaust before i lower it anyway. the only way to make it dual exhaust with out cutting out the spare tire bump they had to route the pipe under the diff... kinda stupid but it works w/ stock suspension lol

"Logan Cabi" youtube sucks and won't let me reply to you. so if you're reading this coil overs are better because lowering your car on stock shocks and aftermarket springs will usually wear the shocks out much faster than stock. not to mention coil overs are adjustable so you can find the perfect wheel/tire/height combo for your car
The springs that they got were probably engineered to work with their stock shocks.

A friend of mine saw my lowered car and wants to lower his too. To cut some corners, he said he'd cut his stock springs, which is ill-advised but still practiced, but come to think of it: what's the actual problem with cutting springs ? My best guess is that the bottom part (where the cut would be made) would no longer lay flat in the strut hat, but rather angled, as it comes off the coiled part, which would cause it to dig into the hat.
They tend to bounce around corners very dangerous not advised it's not safe! take my advice don't do it drive a car with cut springs
He might have cut the springs at one end of the car and only replaced the other end with lowered springs. Cutting springs is the ghetto way to lower you car and is generally quite unsafe, so I'd check that out. Either that, or the suspension on one end is collapsed and has made it lower than the other end, and rather than fixing it, just bought lowered springs to balance it out.
I have been thinking about doing this to My 2011 Subaru Outback. I do like being high up but I never go off-roading so to me it's pointless to even keep my springs on I have on it right now.

Always make sure you have spring compressors, a friend of mine got a tooth knocked clean out and was lucky the spring missed his eyes
