It looks like an image of the fearsome Mesoamerican god Tlaloc and has sound to match. Truly a terrifying contraption! I don't blame the cameraman for trembling in the presence of such an entity :)
This Band Organ was donated to the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wisc. by the Skerbeck Family. I was on their Carnival in the late 1950's and listened to this machine play everyday, as it was placed in the center of their Merry-Go-Round.
People still seem to be watching this video I took when I was 12 years old. Yes, I know the camerawork is terrible but keep in mind this was filmed 8 years ago! I now run the largest educational site devoted to automatic musical instruments including band organs like this Wurlitzer 165: www.mechanicalmusic.org
Laaaddddiiiies and Gentlemeeennn boys and girls...step right up to witness the greatest show on earth! The Barrrnum and Baaailey Circussss! (ahh, childhood memories)
No matter how I squint or turn my head, I cannot see any face in this facade. I only see beautifully balanced carvings. This facade style (and organ in general) is copied from one made by Gebruder Bruder (Bruder brothers) in Waldkirch, Germany. This company had several different people design and carve facades for them, but I don't know all their names. A famous carver was Josef Dopp, who designed many Ruth organ facades, but this does not look like his style to me. However, the designer of this facade did make many other Waldkirch organ fronts.
Ah yes, the rise and fall of humans all roles into one comedic melody! Life really is humiliating, no matter what, you will always be laughed at. This song reminds us that even our greatest feats are a means to our investable fall. I really can imagine great destruction in this piece, so beautifully crafted it brings me to tears.
I wish there were more of these organs on Carousels these days and yeah I miss the good old music and its nice to hear this selection on such a wonderful machine.
This is known by most as the "happiest music on earth". Just ask any child at an amusement park with his eyes lit up by a whirling carousel and this fantastic music.
What a magical sound, I still am so curious as to how the sound actually works, and how little dots are able to calculate to music, these pieces are amazing technology and way ahead of their time. I love these, I recently saw this one playing at the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, and have fallen in love with them ever since.
This is the same model of organ. My favorite organ of the 3 at santa cruz was the 165. i always saw kids and adults near the ruth organ or the tiny wurlitzer organ. Hardly nobody was paying attention to the 165.
Once when I was thirteen I went to a museum in st .ouis that had these machines i can still recall kit. but that place is fine now but still i recall going to see these. giant. coliipues!
@Thunkful2 the coin trip feature means that to activate the organ, a person must insert a coin or coins, and the organ shuts off automatically after each song
Interesting machine, I never have seen one with the volume control louvers, as it hides the entertainment of the musical instruments inside. However, it does play this song very well and very clearly! And the technology to record such videos has progressed over the 13 years that this video was made!
HUR-RY HURRY HURRY! Step right up, folks -- see the craziest collection of camcorder zigzags ever assembled! :) Don't take it too hard; I have trouble holding the thing steady too.
I noticed the melody of the last section goes 8, flat 6, flat 6, 5 instead of the usual 8, flat 7, flat 6, 5. The organ sounds great with more bass than some.
i wonder why circuses arnt nearly that big of a deal as they once were. I mean im only 24 but i seen in older movies based on olden days how a whole town would gather be excited over a circus now you never really hear about circuses even when there is one in the city...same is why dont they combined circuses and fairs like they did in the olden days either. you always seen those pictures of circus tents that are surrounded by a rollercoaster ferris wheel swing ride merry-go-round etc...heck circuses arnt even really in tents anymore either...its in a big giant commercial concrete building...also the music at circuses are really different too almost akin to what people would probably hear at raves...O.O
Because it's now a well-known fact that circuses treat their animals like shit, and the more people who hear about that, the more people will choose to stay away from circuses. Not everything that happened in the past was good or beneficial.
Um, you don't always have to now something first hand to know what is going on. Plus, there have been reports on this kind of thing. Also, some former employees of these circuses have told stories (a lot of them negative) about the stuff that goes on "behind the scenes," so I believe their stories count as first hand experiences.
***** Imagine life without the internet, TV, movie theaters, and other forms of mass entertainment. The circus coming to town would be a pretty big deal.
***** I know this comment is old, but I still feel the need to reply. Yes, a big reason why people have stopped going to circuses is the media coverage of animal abuse (whether truthful or not), but it is mostly because times have changed. Now the world is moving so much faster. Twitter, facebook, media coverage, ect... make the world lose its wonder. On one hand people are able to reach mass amounts of information in seconds, furthering their endeavors at a pace once only dreamed of, making it possible to advance much quicker and for important information to spread. But on the other hand, nothing is surprising anymore. If you hear about a pink water lake (Australia btw), you look it up and find out just where it is, thinking it no more interesting after a few minutes of research than a puddle. But circuses thrived in a time when the world was slower. Seeing people fly through the air and watching savage beasts act like lap dogs was magical. Now with such mass coverage on talent, we are not surprised anymore. We see all kinds of amazing things on the news, but in a small town that had never seen an acrobat before, this was amazing and terrifying. Plus, circuses reigned during the Depression. Although people were poor, they chose to spend their money for a chance to be taken away from reality for awhile. Their conditions were horrible, so who was to place a picket sign in front of the animals. Everyone, including circuses were in desperate need of a better life. And although many were in it for the profit, they still brought smiles. Circuses have a very twisted history and were often built on tears, not smiles, but they brought the bazaar thrill to the average person who desperately needed it. Now with so many options in entertainment, people don't choose this amazing showcase of talent. The circuses are desperate to set up, often having to show in sports arenas due to the labor involved in setting up a tent or the price of the tent itself (not to mention the carnivals that used to be set up alongside). It is just not worth it when they are losing interest. Though there is Cirque Du Soleil which still is looked highly upon, it departs from the classic feel of the circus. It is still an amazing show of talent, but classic shows are dwindling to more fast paced entertainment. It really is a shame and truly shows how the world has become numb to the magic of life all around us.
Maybe the camera man was vibrating with excitement, which is what I have done sometimes. This guy is a Band organ fan. See his channel. This organ is also over 100 years old, it's not like it plays off MIDI or anything, it plays off of paper rolls, like a player piano. Edit: I know the real reason, this video was recorded by Mikey Mills when he was 12 years old, and the camerawork was bad.
@Tubemanjac I was specifically referring to Carousel music. Have you heard the songs they now play on Merry Go Rounds? Not nearly as good or memorable.
You think you're funny? Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991, son. I was making jokes about this man when I was in grade school, even if they weren't that funny. Your "too soon" is my "yesteryear".
the camera man is literally vibrating with fear
It's kind of got a freaky looking face... I'm kinda scared too...
It looks like an image of the fearsome Mesoamerican god Tlaloc and has sound to match. Truly a terrifying contraption! I don't blame the cameraman for trembling in the presence of such an entity :)
Welcome to the circus......
Lolololol!!!!!! These comments are killing me! Lol
one hand down your pants, same effect
It's like the gladiators marched onto stage so majestically, only to remove their armor and reveal themselves as clowns....
Ikr
lol
RUveal
Legend has it the photographer was using his other hand to direct the orchestra inside.
I like how you can clearly hear the crash cymbal, unlike most recordings where the crash cymbal just sounds like a puff of air

You must have some fascinating stories.
JimElliot, that is so cool!
this sounds like a time machine

Your website is excellent! Thank you for making this stuff available online!
You were 12 years old? Well, then, BRAVO! BRAVO!
Laaaddddiiiies and Gentlemeeennn boys and girls...step right up to witness the greatest show on earth! The Barrrnum and Baaailey Circussss! (ahh, childhood memories)
"ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!!"
And to think, for years I thought the title of this song was "YOOT DOOT DOODLE DOODLE DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT."
Chris Gregory LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!! Your comment has to be the cherry on top of all of these hilarious comments!!!! #BestLaughOfTheEntireDay!!!
Oh man I just saw this and cried.
You, too????????
It's not a song.
LOL ME TOO
This is my favorite version of this song!😄
Mine too! Band organs have a beautiful sound if you keep them well-kept. :D -
Angry looking organ with it's frown! It says "alright, you woke me and I'll play your happy tune cause you paid me! When i'm finished, go away"!!!
Pfft- True, the Wurly 165's face does look a bit angry. xD
No matter how I squint or turn my head, I cannot see any face in this facade. I only see beautifully balanced carvings. This is one of my favorite videos on the internet right now
I wish there were more of these organs on Carousels these days and yeah I miss the good old music and its nice to hear this selection on such a wonderful machine.
If that was me putting in the coins to play it in real life.. that would have scared the crap out of me...
This is known by most as the "happiest music on earth". Just ask any child at an amusement park with his eyes lit up by a whirling carousel and this fantastic music.
Modeltnick THE circus theme.
Modeltnick
Light my eyes up, too. I just love caliope music, anyway.
I love entry of the gladiator it's super good
HAHAHAHAHAHAH! IT'S A GIRAFFE!

Spongebob 💖
XD #Spongebob4Ever @Leemurr @Austin Wood
it's very scary sounding, but also calming
Just played this at full volume with headphones on, I think I'm deaf... but it was worth it
I did. Big mistake.

isn’t it the same idea as a music box, roll moves steadily and holes placed right distance.
bro you from waaay our in the country huh.
Wow I have never seen a band organ with swell shutters before :) Awesome! :)
LMAO! Thanks for the upload! I've been wanting to hear that jingle again for ages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In a freak show or the circus I'd be "The Human Seal" cause of my ability to balance anything on my nose from bouncy balls to TV remotes.
y'know, when I open up my own circus someday, I might open a position fer ya
I’d be an aerialist, trapeze artist, or a dancer.
I would get all those bad boys going at once. Just sit there. In a sea of sound.
Sam Hayes, you would probably end up with a pounding headache.
Totally
It was done in the movie "MAN'S FAVORITE SPORT".
Once when I was thirteen I went to a museum in st .ouis that had these machines i can still recall kit. but that place is fine now but still i recall going to see these. giant. coliipues!
What a treat to see and hear this awesome machine
Thanks for posting this 🙏🙏
All those gladiators climbing out of that tiny chariot...
Who did this arrangement. It's one of the best I've heard for a 165. The organ sounds terrific.
@Thunkful2 the coin trip feature means that to activate the organ, a person must insert a coin or coins, and the organ shuts off automatically after each song
POV: You walk into the wrong class and everyone stares at you
Behold! The soundtrack of my personal hell. Cue the evil clowns and panic attack!
HELLO GEORGIE!!!
Circus? hell yeah!
I love this so much
Beautiful!!!
Although video shaken, not stirred, it's nice to hear the music :)
This used to be what played in the middle of a carousel when I was a kid!
Bring back the classic music instead of the crap they now play!
Dude, were you having a stroke when you filmed this?
LaBarata12 n
Write that last remark off, was he pissed or suffering from alzeimers!
John Harwood he was scared of the other man in the room
at least he didn't put on youtube auto-stabilize and make it look like it was on acid
Very well done! 👏👏👏
They should play this at weddings. It would be more appropriate.
...some...most definitely
I can imagine the bride and groom walking down the aisle while circus music is playing.
Onr of the better versions of this song on youtube!

🌟Comment Awards!🌟
🤣 love this comment
I was a clown, O' my brother's.
Me tooooooo!
It's like being drunk at the circus. Dizzying.
This was great! I love these things! Next time, use a tripod, man. I was getting motion sickness watching this.
we have no idea, amazing. 🙂
I noticed the melody of the last section goes 8, flat 6, flat 6, 5 instead of the usual 8, flat 7, flat 6, 5. The organ sounds great with more bass than some.
Maybe he's shaking with fear because he thinks Pennywise will pop out.
There was an organ with a clown at Joyland in Wichita, Kansas. Much rarer than this organ tho
SEND IN THE CLOWNSSS!!!!!!!
@novice841 Maybe he was dancing to the music. lol
good music doesn't exi-
I need one. Red & white please
oh well i'm sorry but there's only like 11 of these lol
Ah yes, the theme song of humanity.

Good for the Ringling Bros. But does that mean they'll stop abusing their other animals? Will other circuses follow suit?

1:52 Ik hoor hier Sinterklaas muziek!
"En strooi dan wat lekkers in een of and're hoek!"
I got sea sick.....
If I was there myself I’d run a mile away at once I’d be jumped for life.
At last I've found someone whose camera work is shittier than mine.
Going to go see the bear in the little car.
@jimamia77 That sounds like something my grandfather would say...
すごい素敵!(*'ω'*)
some still have them, but fewer every year
I was waiting for Pennywise the Dancing Clown to jump out of the box. So much disappointment.
3 Dog Night!
Show must go on
It's a great version of the song. Thanks to Michael J Fox for taking the time to film it.
Now that's a great sense of humor 😂
This is the only 165 i've seen with a coin trip feature
What's with the shaking camera work? I enjoyed the music.
IT WAS TOO POWERFUL
Jonnie Rose he was holding the camera
@whoisthisguy724
What is a coin trip feature?
@Tubemanjac I was specifically referring to Carousel music. Have you heard the songs they now play on Merry Go Rounds? Not nearly as good or memorable.
Can you imagine what that thing costs now?
For chrissakes, hold the camera steady. They have these new things called tripods - get one now.
Why oh why, couldn`t the photographer just put the camera on a tripod and walk away from it ?
+MrHeesbeen YES! I always try to during recording.....
it plays entry of the gladiators.... Its its way of calling us clowns.
CABINETTI GRANDE RUMORE
BEST comment I've seen in a while! LMAO! XD
A lovely audio, albeit it with shaky video!
@sunflower46553 Respect, there is no such thing as crap music.

I'm getting seasick 😂
What about songs by Justin Bieber, Rebecca Black or Miley Cyrus?
Beat MIDI evey time!
Didn’t think that was what is what going to be that
Sorry about your Parkinson's.
Someone needs to rig one of these so it plays The World Revolving!
@Patrick Bryant yep!
Who is holding this camera, Michael J Fox???
What? Too soon?
You think you're funny? Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1991, son. I was making jokes about this man when I was in grade school, even if they weren't that funny. Your "too soon" is my "yesteryear".
Whoa... calm down, toots! Sensitive much?!?! LOL
Zaxxon2008 haha!!!!! I'm 46 but that was funny.
that is a cruel remark... may you never have a nervous disorder.
Well let's Add the Ones Column first 1+9= what #? 10. Is it 1 more than 9? If yes.
Looks like the organ cant figure out whether to keep its shutters open or shut! lol
yanderedev theme
All I can think of is Black Butler 😂
Pennywise the Dancing Clown approved
Lol Stephen King, master of 'Horror!' (Air quotes because Pennywise is funny, not scary.)
16 DECEMBRE 2021 KX PERFECTOSUN
@novice841 Fair excuse for having had too many booz ;)
An early example of jobs being replaced by automation.
How I look when comment on an old video
