Relies on good punch card or whatever the paper stuff that feeds through it is called. A bit like MIDI. I think you could use a slightly better one for this song, but the machine itself is very impressive. I have fallen into a rabbit hole tonight of watching these and they are all just so amazing. I can imagine how exciting it must have been back then to listen to one at a fair!
This is an amazing arrangement. It would be easy enough to just match the original song, but here the entire compass of the instrument is used, giving all these interesting colors. I have a feeling Jeff Lynne would approve.
But you gotta take into consideration that fairground music has its own kind of special sound, so it would sound perfectly tuned playing that. But seeming its being used to play a non-carnival music piece then it is gonna sound a little funky

What tuning standard does this use its definitely not 440 or 442 and when this was made tuning could range from 430 to 465 so it really does make me wonder wich is why it sound out of tune because it is in tune most likely but only when your using the correct standard it was built to and why you dont try and retune it to a 440 the awnsers is the tuning covers arent big enough to re tune that giant amout also every pipe is a certain ratio between diameter taper length and so many thing and change one yeah its in tune now but it wont sound right
This is a relatively modern organ which was built to an equal tempered scale. The actual pitch, ie, A440 or 435 or 442, is totally irrelevant as the organ never plays in concert with any other instrument. Being a travelling organ, its tuning may sometimes be a little out in certain registers. Organ should never be retuned to a pitch at variance to the pitch at the time of manufacture. The tuning slides may have insufficient travel, especially if the violins have shades rather than slides. Some open pipes may even be 'cut to length' and therefore un-tunable.
Will not be available. The arranger has re-arraged the original song specifically for the musical scale of this organ, and then markled and cut the music books. This is a highly skilled job that only a few people in the world can do.
A beautiful sounding instrument that well represents the fine talents of more than one person, just not sure about that hand carved nudity. Sorry, but your wood doesn't give me a woody. Neither do those topless fellas marching in front of the White House, but to each his own I guess. I'm sure there's a better critique than mine to sound off, but I think the better tallent is found in craftsmanship of the sound, which is superb, not so much the "artistic expression" of the facade. What the hell are you going on about? Nudity and depictions of nude human figures have been part of art since it’s inception - all the way through to today’s contemporary art - about 30,000 years. The nudity on the organ is a depiction of ‘Adam and Eve’ - from the Judeo-Christian faith. If you’re trying to go on some Christian moralistic tirade - a carving of Adam and Eve couldn’t get more Christian… Just listen to the nice music and keep your politics off the internet like the rest of us.
As originally built, this organ had a much more stylish front, without the large carvings. Tom Varley was the original owner. When he died, the organ changed hands, and the new owners had the front changed into what you see today. Pity!
No it's not detuned this instrument is most likely made before the standardization In the 1940s. The standard today is 12 tet a 440 but back then in places in europe like the uk the standard 460 Wich is were this organ is located so A is almost a whole tone higher Wich throws off the ratios between the rest of the notes compared to what we are used too But you are so used to a 440 (or 442 because it's also verry common and there's not much difference) your brain expects to hear 440 so something in 460 may sound a bit jarring at first
