Spencer Charnas is goated.
backed
He isssssss so much diversity
All hail
His cleans are top tier for sure and he can do almost all types of screaming at least well. He is A tier overall or even the gatekeeper for S, I think.
Agreed. Easily S tier, I think something you have to consider when making a metalcore tier list is that vocalists who can scream and sing competently may have an edge over vocalists who can only do one or the other. Spencer is very, very good at both. I’ve seen them live and he checks out there, as well. He might be my favorite metalcore vocalist I’ve heard tbh.
Vocalists not mentioned:
Spencer Charnas - dude has some meaty highs and lows, as well as great cleans. You gotta check out the song Take your Pick featuring corpsegrinder, he shows some of his nastiest deathcore chops on that one. Probably high A-tier or low S-tier.
Eddie Berg - I actually can’t remember if he was on the list but his cleans are incredible and his screams are just as good. Probably about as good as Andy Cizek imo, so low A-tier.
Chris Roetter - absolutely fucking pissed screams and incredible cleans. Definitely high A-tier.
INK and a few more bands are in the playlist so I assume there will be a part 3
Cannot believe Chris isn't there, how much more metalcore can you get than LMTF
@@lukemadden3169 Hopefully
@@lukemadden3169 And they ought to include take your pick on there too... I know most of the more brutal vocals were corpsegrinder, but Spencer did his fair share of gutturals during the breakdown.
@@lukemadden3169 They did say at the end there would be a part 3 and 4. Well, time to wait another month until the next video is out lol
I waited forever to see where Spencer Charnas was getting placed and we got so close to his name in this video. Hopefully won’t have to wait too long for pt 3
I'm so glad that this comment section on both parts has been just absolutely cranking out the INK Spencer Charnas praise. What an absolute inspiration for vocalists everywhere
Marcus Bridge was B until Alien - he’s straight S now. What the screams might lack in dynamics they make up for in emotion - it sounds less like he’s filling a part for a metalcore band and more like he’s genuinely yelling at you. He’s got some decent lows as well, particularly live. And his singing? The best in the scene, no question.
ryo kinoshita from crystal lake is a clear S tier for me. his highs, mids and lows are fucking brutal dude
What are songs of his with good highs?
Jake Luhrs in C broke my heart
Saaaaame
Jake should be in A putting him only in C is 100% BS.
Watch a bunch of live performances and be honest.
I'm surprised you guys didn't include Matt Heafy from Trivium. Not only is Trivium a staple band in Metalcore, but Heafy's range from clean vocals to melodic death metal on songs like Dusk Dismantled or Shogun and everything in between, dude's got some vocals.
Hoping Flo from Landmvrks makes the list, at least an A tier for me.
hes such a great vocalist
His versatility is insane
Dude is a beast!
I think is vocals live sound much better than his studio vocals.
Spencer Charnas better be S
Marcus in low B is criminal, Alien album alone puts him high A if not not low S, they talk about how he lacks the wow factor but I think he has some of the most recognizable passion and feeling when he sings and screams
Well scream-wise he is a little lackluster and doesn't really do too much. However he is definitely A-tier purely because his cleans are just beautiful.
I think as far as his screams though especially like u said on the Alien album his screams have improved significantly while also having really good pronunciation. I NEVER have to look up certain lyrics when he screams cause I know exactly what he's saying when he screams which i think goes a long way. (If anyone isn't convinced just look up the Vultures single they released a few years before Alien fucking AMAZING)
@@driskulls7834 yes that's what I mean, his screams improved so drastically on Alien, I'm throughly excited to hear this upcoming album they've been working on
i fucking agree
They really did him dirty, I mean the guy has some of the best vocals I've heard period.
No doubt, Spencer Charnas is the best by far!
Seeing that Periphery is on the playlist and probably rated in part 3, I think Spencer Sotelo should be right next to Howard in S. One of the most diverse, emotional, and just monstrous vocalists
Spencer is a fucking MONSTER. Angelic cleans, diverse vocal range AND insane endurance.
If Spencer isn't in S, the whole list becomes silly
Spencer has the biggest range, insane power, and on top of that some of the most compelling vocal melodies, rhythms, and structures, absolutely GOATED vocalist
Don't disrespect Spencer, he is worlds above Howard. Listen to Ragnarok, the man hits F#5; like they're nothing. Then he goes even higher on The Scourge.
I was surprised that he wasn't on the list. He is one of my favorites, and definitely one of the most drastic improvements in the scene. From P1 where he was pretty good (still one of my favorite albums BTW), to P4 where he gives arguably one of his best performances on a record. Not to mention, he is epic live. He does a different technique live where he focuses more on endurance rather than power, and I think it benefits. You can tell he knows his shit. BTW if you want to see just how much he has improved over the years, listen to some of his re-recorded P1 tracks that he put out some time ago. It's incredible.
I agree 100% on this!
I am so excited to see where Spencer from INK will be, after Welcome to Horrorwood and what he brought to that album is easily S tier In my opinion
After hearing KSE live with Jesse, he's at least A tier for me
Agreed. I LOVE Howard, no doubt he’s S tier, but seeing Jesse live is just as amazing.
Spencer Charnas. He has an amazing range and his singing voice is just awesome
I understand your placement of Jesse, but I’d personally have him in S tier. He has improved immensely (both live and in studio) since rejoining the band and he has some of the most emotional and heavy lyrics I’ve heard. Plus he and Adam kill it in both Times of Grace albums. If you guys haven’t listened to them then I highly recommend them! Great video regardless of disagreements in some placements. You guys got me to listen to Polaris and Landon so thank you so much for that!
I absolutely agree, I’d put him in S tier too, KsE are my favorite band and I honestly prefer Jesse compared to Howard as I’ve grown so that’s a little bias from me, but I definitely think both of them belong in S tier absolutely
His growls are better than Howard's too as well as his lyrics.
@@TYLERtheMAGGOT1 No. They aren't. I always use this as a reference point to people that claim that. Love me some Jesse, but Howard is so above him he literally not figuratively drowns him out when doing it at the same time. Howard kills him in every category sorry. 1:38 ua-cam.com/video/FZ1tyi8QalM/v-deo.html
@@TYLERtheMAGGOT1 I need to edit that last statement in one way. Jesse has the upper hand in lyrics, I agree on that one.
@@chipchippahson saw it. Still disagree. Sorry 🤷🏻♂️ wasn't a good reference point. After watching the video my opinion is still the same. Thought he had better vocals in that video too.
Agree so much with this list, especially with Howard being in his rightful spot. One thing I would like to note is missing, especially seeing Courtney on this list is Tatiana from Jinjer. Tatiana is inarguably, I refuse to even debate with anyone S Tier, especially live. That woman is part demon, definitely a special talent.
100% agreed. it's actually amazing, in terms of versatility, tone, control, like she can switch between super low gutterals, ear piercing screams, and the most serene and beautiful cleans with very beautiful and catchy melodies, all like it's second nature to her... even beyond that, her ability to create and perform beautiful harmonies and melodies over all the dissonance within the bands riffs and progressions, and how easily she can fit over the complex time signatures and crazy riffs... she's top 5 all around metal vocalists for me, period
Landon Tewers is one of the most under appreciated musicians on the PLANET!
Might be a little bias because I’m from NW Ohio where he is, but please go check out his solo stuff and the ENTIRE “The Plot In You” discography. Every album is different
Early The Plot in You is still so iconic
He has such a cool voice!
You fucjin got it king Landon RIPS
Go ahead and listen to Blasphemy off of his deathcore solo EPs. I’ll wait for a response
5 months into waiting for part 3
Trying to figure out how you have Jake Luhrs C tier for always sounding the same but Jamey Jasta in A tier and he has not changed in 30 years. I love them both btw.
I know I was kind of wondering this too
Idk how Mike Hranica is A teir.
Because they're terrified of Jasta.
Same, and Jake has started doing some solid cleans too
@@elijah9907 should be S
Putting Jake at C is abosolutely wrong, one of the most powerful vocalists in the game right now, especially their newer stuff. usually agree with you guys but man that's brutal lol
Yup Jake is better than most of the vocalists on this list
To be honest, I have to agree with jared and dicky
@@kinski-we3eu Yeah to each their own, I think he's stepped up in ABR's recent stuff imo
@@jthrock45 Bruh, seriously, they did Jake a disservice.
Tbh I know i can't speak for you guys but I would argue that I might ove ABR are more than anyone in this comment thread. I believe they're the first metalcore band I ever got into and I absolutely love Jake and have seen them live multiple times. but he's definitely notone of the most powerful vocalists in metalcore. he has very little range and his scream is very quiet and is not much of a scream at all to be honest. I also scream so trust I'm not making it up. Hes not that good. No shade at all
Landon deserves S tier 🤝
Dude is a beast! Seen him way to many times live. I’ve gotten the chills so often from him
Now you guys gotta do metalcore guitarists tier list!!!
Now I’m wondering where they’d place Adam Dutkiewicz. He’s got the attributes.
@@heelgill Or where they'd place Matt Heafy! Or Ryan Siew!
Landon is finally getting some respect in the scene. Dude has always been incredible and the plot in you is super underrated
I really enjoy this video series, it's felt like a big metalcore family getting together. Very wholesome team
So happy the vocalist of Polaris made the list! The are such an amazing band
No Jacob Charlton (Thornhill) tho rip :(
Kinda feel like this was made before the new bullet songs had come out because all the there new singles have been amazing.
Also agree Spencer from INK is definitely high A or S tier
Me too cause i think that if they had really heard all of the most recent ones instead of stopping at parasite then they might have put them more on A tier but If that’s the case then I’m fine with their place because like they said they have had some OG classics all through their career (except maybe temper temper and gravity) but still
Personally, I would have put Jesse in S right next to Howard. Alive or Just Breathing to me is the perfect metalcore album (coming in at a solid second favorite album of all time after Trivium's Shogun), and the dude has been killing it since his return. Phil Labonte's vocals on The Fall of Ideals blew me away the first time I heard that album. If you asked me ten years ago, I'd put him in S, but now, I agree with the B tier placement. Haven't been wowed by him since For We Are Many. While on the topic of metalcore bands from here in MA, I hope to see Trevor from Unearth in part 3.
Jake in C tier? Lmaoooooo
Dude is S for me. Has some of the most passionate mids, unique lows & highs.
Agreeee! In my experience, people who casually/rarely listen to ABR have the same opinions they listed.
Agreed
idk man marcus is gotta be high A or low S for me, dudes got range, hell of a singer, can do the sing screams sam carter does, has a pretty solid normal scream and killer melodie’s. also brian wille from currents kadeem from loathe and garrett from silent planet need to be on this list hoping they’re in part 3
Garrett was on part 1, you can see him in tier B
Still no Kadeem from Loathe, but happy you mentioned the low from sam on the First Problem Child Live version. That recording is so legendary.
Memphis fan here. "I've been there, I've done that and I refuse to go back." Dudes greater than you give him credit for.
YES YES YES, he has some of the best clean singing in all of metal core, super uplifting voice and his screams are godlike wtf
I saw Jason Butler climb on top of one of the buildings to perform a song at Knotfest in Iowa. I had never heard Fever 333 before that day, they gained my respect that day.
Y’all did Marcus fucking dirty. I’m still prefer Adrian personally but have you listened to anything live recently with Marcus in it? He’s by far a high A tier.
Agreed!
Spencer Charnas and Sotelo, should be on the next part
Spencer Chamberlain as well
Sounds like you havent listened to ABR in a while. Everything you said was totally true until like 3 years ago.
Oh snap, almost missed this one. Always happy to see a new DDS vid
Jake Luhrs is at least A tier for me lol
I completely agree. Im shocked they placed him on C tier 😐
Yeah he is fucking monster, great list overall but this is one of few I strongly disagree with them :D
I can’t believe James Harrison is lower than Chris Motionless, like Chris is solid but he doesn’t have much range as compared to James. Really bummed they’d rank him down there
Can't wait for the part 3 and 4 of this list! Hopefully, they do a death metal tier list after this one.
I saw ERRA live at Rebel Rock (before it canceled) and the entire band freaking killed it. J.T. was amazing live and I wanna see them again now lol
I hear you, but let's be honest... Erra isn't metalcore, they are progressive/djent/experimental...
that volumes placement hurt
can't wait to see where y'all placed ma boi Winston from PWD!
His live stuff can be Meh At times tho. High b low a
@@devinbender8428 I totally agree with your placement dude💯💯💯
@@devinbender8428 Yeah if he was consistend he'd probably be a mid A or barely an S even, but he's so inconsistent live it's hard to put him up that high.
@@niki3150 if I had to put him. I’d say high B.
@@devinbender8428 I agree. Definite A tier, possibly lower S if he was more consistent.
If there’s no Spencer Charnas atleast in A or S tier in part 3, I will start riot against this channel!!
still no spencer charnas, he deserves S tier
The new Memphis may fire is actually ridiculously good
Yes!
Marcus Bridge in my opinion should be way higher after that acoustic album northlane put out. One of the best acoustic albums I've ever heard.
I worked the fever stage for blue ridge (where he climbed up) and he actually almost broke our stage 😂 they were absolutely amazing to watch tho!!!
No VoM? I'd say they're very metalcore nowadays. Especially if John of DGD makes the cutoff. Good stuff, tho!
Lukas is insane too!
Saw Letlive on a bill with Killswitch and Rise Against. I was the only one screaming the lyrics and everyone was asking who the hell those guys were. They blew everyone's mind that show.
Turbo mad with Sean of MTS being not super S tier angy angy angy emoji. Love you lads
I came here to see where you placed Landon Tewers...he has my favorite vocals of all time 🤘 I'm glad to hear you guys appreciate his talents as well! So underrated
Spencer Charnas belongs here for sure, high A tier at least imo. I'd also move Jake from ABR to gatekeep B tier but damn i feel everything else you guys said basically spot on. few bands im not familiar with but now i have more music suggestions, so still a win.
We will always love the DickeyDines show
My boiiii Mess does some awesome vocal acrobatics in Secret Band if you've never heard him. Spencer Charnas' absence on this list makes me kind of sad.
Oh boy can’t wait to see how long part three will take to come out
I'm so glad to see you guys give Landon so much props. To me he belongs in S tier also but was surprised you guys appreciate what he does. His range is great and even overall as a frontman. The Plot in You is a way underrated band.
Has anyone been desperately wanting more Polaris? They havnt released a song in almost 2 years.
The Death of Me came out in 2020 lol
@@hithere-haveagreatday7609 Yeah. February of 2020. Its going to be 2022 soon you turkey.
@@8JFJK8 fair enough ahah
“It’s been 84 years.” thanks for releasing part 2 guys!
Still waiting on the other parts😭
Ive been waiting for this episode for so long! I needed to see where you would rank Sam Carter! :D
We all knew it would be S ;)
Agreed with most except for volumes.
Ok yeah they are basically the same… but both are really fucking good sounding. Both have the exact kinda scream I wish I had haha
And both good singing with slight edge to Myke
Edit: the on her mind video slapped
I will not accept any Volumes slander, ESPECIALLY from Dickey.
Beautiful edits as always. can't wait to see you guys pump out more content
Im still waiting for part 3 of this tbh lol
I hope the Reflections vocalist pops up in there. Meaty in a all 3 ranges and fuck... the emotion... idk if you can beat that level of sincerity.
Yo you forgot Spencer from Ice Nine Kills and I think that empty spot next to Canehill could've been for Flo from Landmvrks
I think with videos like this you should start with saying who it is clearly each time - I can't see the photos super well so for a bunch of them I had to rewind or listen for the band name or try to hear clues on who you were talking about. Took away some enjoyment of actually just sitting back and listening to your opinions. Especially since I look forward to every video y'all post with bated breath hehe.
i didn’t know dance gavin dance was metalcore hahaha tho i’m not complaining that they included jon here. love that guy
I saw Landon Tewers in the thumbnail and clicked
Same.
Same glad they gave him S tier.
Same
Glad y’all talked about Bloodwork, that album so good. Hoping to see Spencer Chamberlain we shall see
If you’re still taking requests, I’d love to see you rank Dani Winter-Bates & Jason Cameron from Bury Tomorrow!
Jason :(
Don’t know whether I’ll like the new BT without him
Jesse should be joint with Howard for me, I saw Killswitch with Howard, and they were good, but I've seen them Jesse, and they're miles better with Jesse, his singing voice live is absolute perfection, and his stuff with Times Of Grace is absolutely mesmerising, Howards better bands are out of Killswitch for me
Yep. KSE with Jesse have always been some of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.
There are so many names and bands, I need like a good overview for this :D
you guys gotta check august burns reds chop suey cover. i used to think the same of jake, but once i heard that cover, he definitely gained some extra points in my book
Great video guys 🤘😎🤘. I hope Dennis from Any Given Day will appear in next part. He is insane vocalist.
I always preferred Howard over Jesse in terms of raw vocal talent (jesse has improved CONSIDERABLY over the years tho) but for me In terms of lyrics and writing i just prefer Jesse more so. Howard just seems to always talk about lost love in some sort of sense (at least for his time in KSE) which is a fine subject to talk about and has given us classic fucking songs but Jesse seems way more diverse in what he writes about. I think personally Jesse is a High A to low/middle S but in terms of raw vocal talent Howard is better for sure.
Love you guys
Hm, was surprised by low ranking of Marcus from Northlane ngl, dude's underrated for sure)
If I'm not seeing Eddie Berg from Imminence in high S-tier after last 3 singles I'm going in guns blazing😂
High agree… now with 5 singles Eddie still proves he has the BEST cleans
Could you add Scott Kennedy from Bleed From Within on there Austin?
man i love that intro, what a warm welcome
well the thing is, there are metalcore bands with 2 vocalists for cleans and uncleans respectively
You typically don't want co-leads though, is what they're getting at. Like with Born of Osiris, the keyboardist sings, but he also has other shit to do. Two singers who _only_ sing needs a justification.
@@DragonTigerBoss I'm talking dgd, amity affliction, wage war (kinda), etc.
As I Lay Dying has Tim for dirty vocals and Josh Gilbert for cleans
Please listen to northlanes live stuff now and you will realise how great Marcus bridge is, doesn’t even feel like he takes a breath and his screaming has improved like crazy.
J.T. , John, Landon, and courtney are my current favorite screamers on the scene but vessel from sleep token and tilian are my 2 fav clean vocalist
I ain't gonna freak out or nothing, but jake does Highs, Mids, Lows, spoken word, sing-scream, and has a ton of energy. Especially their last 2 albums. Idk, just seems wrong
Definitely agree. If you’ve listened to all their albums front to back you’d know that. I think people who just casually listen to ABR wouldn’t know that is all. Which is fine, everyone has their taste. I just don’t think they listen/like ABR too much.
Dude is extremely talented live, in studio, and lyrically. Such a wholesome dude as well.
@@YenShively yeah, and I'm not even the most hardcore ABR fan out there. I got into metal around 2016 and they were one of the first bands I got showed. Naturally like Phantom Anthem and Gaurdians the most, definitely have way more plays on those albums than their others combined. I wouldn't even say their sound is my particular taste anymore but I live right near their hometown and have gone to a lot of their concerts, and I've heard a lot of both live and studio metal vocalists at this point and Jake is defintely up there. Especially on stage. I'll always be rooting for the guys
@@Glaedr11 fair enough! I get they’re not some people’s taste. Everyone has different preferences :) my favorites are basically everything from Constellations and onwards. Not one miss for me 🤣 but yeah exactly, you can’t not root for these guys. They’re just such wholesome people from what I can tell from my experiences meeting them and others as well. Jake is def one of my top 3 fave metalcore vocalists, if not my favorite. My other top has a lot of controversy around him so I won’t say 😅 I’ve been listening to the genre since the early 2000’s so I gravitate more towards their sound and others that are similar.
That’s so awesome that you live near their hometown and prob got to see some amazing shows! I’ve seen them about 7 times but all in the southeast. Nothing cooler than hometown shows! I’m lucky to have been able to grow up with Whitechapel and be around since their beginning, having been from the same general area as them. Cool stuff!
@@YenShively ronnie is good too 😉
@@Glaedr11 Ronnie who? Haha 😅
Lucas Magyar from Veil of Maya is one of the best live vocalists I’ve ever seen
Seriously? I was left disappointed when I saw them last. I dunno if it was jet lag but low on energy and vocals weren’t great.
@@mrsbeard5225 oh really? When/where did you see them?
Dude hell yeah Landon is who I aspire to sound like with those crazy emotional vocals. Fuck yes. He so good
Ben Duerr and Will Ramos are vocalist sent by the Gods
Facts - but we're leaving metalcore here ngl
And Dickie Allen and Derek Conolly were sent by Satan
they should be in the deathcore tier list video
Spencer from INK is S tier and im so so so so so glad that a billion people in the comments agree with me on this. Been listening to them since 2007 and they have definitely improved a ton.
Best metalcore albums Tier list next please
Great list, very accurate in my opinion. A few improvements: I would love to have seen Spencer Sotelo of periphery (obviously) and Danny Worsnop (unless I just didn't see them on there). especially Spencer though his vocals are incredible and has one of the best ranges in a voice I have ever heard. Would love to see him attempt some new screaming techniques though he mainly two screaming sounds and would love to hear some more. But both of these vocalists definitely deserver to be on there. Great list though.
I just checked and I didn't see AA on there so probably no Danny. I think I also personally checked for Jinjer since I'm pretty sure they're metalcore, though they sound basically like Opeth Lite, and didn't see them either. I'd love to also see Knocked Loose there but I guess they made it clear they don't like Bryan's vocals, which is a shame, because he's one of my favorites.
I would’ve personally put Jake Luhrs in a mid-low B tier. Dude can sing now too
His highs have vastly improved in their newer stuff too
@@andrewgreiner4681dude right?! His highs had my jaw dropped in the death below album
Breaks my heart that ya'll put Jake Luhrs on the C tier 😥
It's all good though, this is just me because I'm a huge fan of his
Great stuff as always! Really fun especially with the explanations of why everyone was ranked the way they were.
I can't believe you guys didn't put Taylor Swift though! /S
Holy fucking hell what took so damn long Ive been blue balled for WEEKS
For me, Mike Hranica deserves an S placement. I've been a staunch defender of Prada throughout all their genre shifts because it's been some of the best "Core" music out there. He's so unique vocally and I love how raw he gets, where sometimes he doesn't give a fuck if he sounds "solid" but cares more about the emotion behind his words. Deserves more love if you ask me.
Jared just goes along with whatever Austin says
No Spencer Charnas, Tim Labesis, or Matt Heafy you guys missed some good vocalists.
Cory from Norma Jean and Hundred Suns
Give some love to the clear vocals too
They better put spencer from Underoath in A or I’m gonna shit my pants and cry
