  • Another Slicks classic which I uploaded as a tribute to one of my all time favorite bands! I'm no music historian just a fan. Thanks to comments posted by other users I've learned that the video was produced & directed by Richard Fischer at R&R Lighting Studios in Silver Spring, MD with the following musicians; Kim Kane (Rhythm guitar), Marshall Keith (Lead guitar), Mark Noone (Vocals), Emery Olexa (Bass), and Dan Palenski (Drums). And, the recording likely came from the 3rd EP release on Limp in 1979.

Marshall Keith is one of rock's Mighty Lords. How a guy this colossally talented could escape widespread adoration is beyond understanding.
They oughtta blow up the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame and build a statue to him in its place.

Whenever he bursts into a solo (and there is no other way to put it) it's almost as if Luke himself is firing up his light saber. Just... DAYum! :D

I was in a DC band in the early 80's: The Spy-Dels. The Slickees got the Wax Museum, Friendship Station and the Psychidelly on Friday and Saturday. We were a Wednesday/Thursday band. We were booked to open for the Ventures at the Bayou and then the manager for the Insect Surfers convinced the booking agent to boot us in favor of them. Went to the show and they got booed. Glad it wasn't us. Loved Mark Noone, Kim Kane and the Slickees.

One of the best power pop bands ever! The Slickee Boys have truly changed my life in the mid-80s, when punk has gone metal!!! Always love 'em!

Hello to all good people reading this blog and watching the Slickee Boys. I produced and directed this video. The video would be a lot "cleaner" looking and the quality of the sound would have been better if I had copied it from the three quarter inch tape it was originally recorded on. But low and behold the Master tape was stolen. I had hired a guy named Mike Murphy to be one of the cameramen. He showed up so wasted he couldn't even focus the camera. He was replaced by one of the electricians and passed out somewhere in the studio. Murphy showed up a few days later at the R&R Studio's, groveled into the vault and swiped the master tape taking it to New York and got a job passing the production off as his own. Murphy's more honest brother told me where he was working and I called them only to find out he was fired, apparently for not knowing what he was doing. If anyone knows Mike Murphy or if he reads this, the Slickee Boys and I would like the master tape back.

Probably went to more Slickee Boys shows than any other local band in our Scene when I was a teenager. Someday I may write about what it was like going to a punk show at the original 930 Club at 930 F St NW. Those were unforgettable experiences. I could write a whole chapter on the downstairs bathroom alone.

Sounds like everybody here remembers the original 9:30...that long, dark corridor and then the music hit ya!
PS Is anybody old enough to remember seeing all these folks at Fort Reno for free?!

Always loved this band! I worked in some of the punk/alternative clubs in D.C. in the early to mid-eighties. This band sounded great then and I have discovered that they their music has aged extremely well. Still one of my favs!!

It's good - I downloaded it last week and listening to it and realizing how GOOD the Slickee boys were! There were so many great shows in DC in the 80's I did not appreciate them, but listening to this - Great Guitars, Great Singing, Great Lyrics - and ORIGINALITY! Listening to this took me back to 1981 & 82!

Yes, those were the days! Psyche Delly was one my band Discreet's first actual club gigs back in the day. Once after sound check, I went down the street to shop at the second hand clothing store and reached for a t-shirt at the same time as another shopper and was totally blown away when I looked up and it was Kim Kane!!

i'll chime in as a lad about ten years too young to have caught slickee fever here in b-more. i heard that they were legends and i went to a "reunion" show they did in baltimore around '91. kim kane walked past my friend and i, looking basically the same as in this video, though as he passed us he smelled distinctly like an open box of "fruit loops" cereal. we though it was odd that a "rock legend" (local rock legend) would reek of fruit loops...

This is a crappy dub of the version I produced for the Third EP, not as listed as being recorded in MINN, and the U2/Slickee Boys concert was at The Bayou, not The Ontario. Slickee Boys were originally booked as the headliners, but by the time U2s first USA tour got to DC, they became the headliners!

I saw the Slickee Boys at the 35th anniversary of the 9:30 Club where they also played the documentary 930 & F, named after the original location of the club. They were amazing of course! I've also had the pleasure of hanging out with Marshall Keith, at some live music shows, and he is an incredibly nice and humble guy. He also has new music out, check out Something For You online, it sounds great! Here's my tribute to the Slickee Boys and my favorite song of theirs! ua-cam.com/video/S-DodUH9o8k/v-deo.html

Cagney's, One Step Down, DC Space... Ontario Theater - saw U2 there - can't believe it now! I still tell people about that show! And dancing in the lobby at the Gang of Four show. The old 9:30 was a real dive a few blocks from the shooting galleries!

Check out their LIVE CD "Fashionably Late", which was released this year and is different then the aforementioned "A Postcard from the Day" which I just received from my old buddy Dan Palenski, Slickees Drummer. I worked with Dan for over 10 years in the 1980's in the Northern VA. area and he was best-man at my wedding.

This video was not recorded at Nicollet Studios. It was produced and directed by Richard Fischer at R&R Lighting Studios in Silver Spring Maryland. Richard Fischer produced and directed many videos including Tex Rubinowitz and the Bad Boys. You can get in touch with Fischer through Mark Noone.

I think this was filmed in-studio in Minneapolis, by the record company who put this out (their name escapes me). By the way, my favorite places to watch bands were The Psychedeli (which really was a deli!), The Childe Harold at Dupont Circle, and the Ontario Theater. Good times one and all.

20+years ago I was losing my hearing at the original 9:30 Club at 930 F St NW (keep in mind the current 9:30 isn't the original 9:30). And, sporktoast is right--there was a pole near the stage that I used to crash into every now and then.
    Betcha sporktoast did, too.

Geez, these guys were great. Mark Noone (Noonan?) has to be the least likely lookin' rock singer ever and Marshall Keith is a godforsaken wonder of a guitar slinger from the second-wave Brit Invasion mode.
'Wish they'd shot it live-sound rather than synch, 'cause they certainly had it in'em to nail it.

Doesn't look like the 9:30 to me -- there was a club in SW (F Street I think) they used to play. Want to say it was the Space Club or Club Orbit, or something like that. Had a space suit out front. Was a couple blocks south of Air & Space. This looks like that stage. Wish I could remember the name.
