  • excellent canadian garage track...
for the benefit of ylaski, i couldn't find a printed copy of lyrics but i think below is roughly right. if anyone can correct anything feel free. the odd word varies in versions and i'm sure i've heard an extra verse on one.
Walking down the street, on a foggy night...
Saw a young girl standing under a light...
Her face was pale and her skirt was tight...
Had a five dollar bill, I felt alright...
If I had my car, I would go for a drive...
I had no car but I had my five...
Walked over to her, said what's your name...
My names Mary Jane, I live down the lane...
I looked down the lane, at the end I could see...
A room full of clowns looking back at me...
A line of executives formed to the right...
And if I'd stayed, I would have stood all night...
She opened up the door, and said go on in...
I walked in first, pulled down the shades...
She said take it easy, don't be afraid...
You got nothing to lose, you're at a penny arcade...
CD reissued on Voxx VCD2012, with bonus material, tracklisting -
    1. 1-2-5
    2. shake
    3. horror show
    4. untie me
    5. i can only give you everything
    6. eight o'clock this morning
    7. 1-2-5 (original version)
    8. out of time
    9. searching for my baby
    10. a message to pretty
    11. twist

    13. porquoi (talk talk)
    14. vapeur mauve (purple haze)

Simply bruisin'! The keys are period perfect. The fuzzed-up guitar gets it. The bass has that groovy "wooly" tone to it. The percussion is crisp and precise. The harmonica is bluesy and tough. I remember this one very well. This band and The Quiet Jungle (from Yorkville) were big medicine in Canada.

Since this is a psychedelic song with wonderfully kaleidoscopic fragmented and obtuse lyrics it made sense to me that this would be the kind of stuff you might encounter after ingesting a four-way tab... but then again, I'm not Canadian! I love this song! We used to cover it in my High School garage band daze... "You got nothin' to lose, you're at a penny arcade..."

For the last 28 odd years I'd been thinking the opening lyrics were "Walking down the street on a four way tab, I saw a young girl standing under glass" .glad I finally got that straight .

I saw them at the 1st of 2 rock concerts at the Autostade in 1970 (??). They blew the place down and played many songs from the "Are You Experienced" album by Hendrix. They were great. They were not outmatched by other bands like the Who, and Mitch Ryder. I can't remember the other bands (Our Generation maybe, a local band).

Out of curiosity I looked for the 45 on E-bay. The Amy version just sold for $377.09. Of course it's the promo copy so that must justify it.
