Had the same issue on my 89, replaced sending unit and it fixed the problem and the huge leak. To check your wiring to the gauge, if you ground the wire that hooks up to the sending unit the gauge should peg out. If it doesn’t then it will confirm it’s the wire and not the sending unit. But my stars man, with the looks of that wiring mess I’d start there anyway. 🤣 Good luck.
That wiring harness is an electrical fire waiting to happen, replace the wiring before the thing catches fire while you’re out with your loved ones. American Autowire has the best kit and it’s super easy. Best of luck
The unit is just a fancy idiot lite, I replaced it out with a mechanical sending gauge and hard line routed to center console shows true pressure
Were you able to buy just the bulkhead connector and re-wire a new one? Or did you have to buy the whole wiring harness?
I only replaced the sending unit itself in this video. I suspect the wiring and am just a couple of weeks away from a complete painless rewire.
