Great information, my question is does it have to be 200 consecutive miles? My smog guy told me drive the 200 miles but stop just over 50 miles, turn off car wait a couple of minutes and do that 4 times.

Either way is fine, the rule is 209 miles and 15 warm up cycles. Warm up cycles include the engine cooling off for a while not just turning it off and then restarting.

@@RANDOMFIX I waited for engine temperature to be 104, then started and rev till temperature was 180. No change is warm-up counts. Instead of rev do I drive around?

@alunatick12 I’m sure you are driving the vehicle, have any warm up cycles been recorded?

@@RANDOMFIX 1 this morning, but I don’t know what is making it work. Started car in morning, turned on ac/ rear defrost, radio. Let it run for 3 minutes. Then drove streets and fwy totaling 40 miles. It’s getting really tired driving, I’m disabled bad back and knee. Drives are to long.

Does permanent code triggers limp mode? Its hard to drive 200 miles on limp mode though.....

    • @RANDOMFIX
      @RANDOMFIX  3 місяці тому

A limp mode code could be a present pdtc or permanent diagnostic trouble code. You have to fix the issue with limp mode and then complete 200 miles and 15 warm cycles so vehicle can learn that issue has been fixed. If the pdtc is still present then the smog technician can verify that the 200 / 15 rules has been met and allow you pass.
I hope that helps and good luck

I just tried your method did not work, 2012 gmc terrain. Cold start 104, 2k rpm ECT normal about 176, I ran it to 180. No change in warm starts count. BS or is the only for Prius?

      Thanks for the feedback?”
Maybe one size doesn’t fit all?
Does your vehicle show any warm up cycles completed from normal driving?

@@RANDOMFIX yes, but only 3. My battery died on Monday. All obdll information lost. Drove around all inc are now complete, but I have stored code that I need to get reset. I’ll be driving tomorrow and will have well over 200 miles. Need to know how to do warm cycle. Thanks

UPDATE: This did work for me with a few tweaks, lowest temperature I tried was 107, idle for about a minute then drove my car for 4.5 miles looping home, engine temperature was 176-180. It did count as a warm-up cycle. I can do this about 3 maybe 4 times a day depending on outside temperature. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

You know you have to actually correct the issue that is causing the permanent code or it will just keep showing up. If all you are doing is trying to delete a permanent without correcting the issue the code will come back. The resister and alligator leads will clear a permanent code, some manufactures may have implemented the ability to store the code on a memory chip and not just in memory in which case you will have to use a computer to erase the permanent code.

Yes, it’s agreed that issue that caused the pdtc has be address.
I know that permanent codes can not be deleted or erased. If you have a computer program that can do it please let me know about the program. Additionally I have tried this on other vehicles with the outcome.
I welcome your response and I hope you prove me wrong.

Please say in your videos that there is really only one reason to attempt any action to get rid of the Permanent code. That is to pass a state emissions test. And even than many states do not even care about them. If you do not have a test to pass just leave the Permanent code alone. With the check engine light off there is no reason to do anything with a permanent code. It's not hurting anything being in there. And for gods sake do not spend any money on parts in an attempt to "fix" anything. Nothing is broken with just a permanent code present.

car dealers like us who wholesale cars..always try to get rid of the permanent code before auction, and it is a pain in the ass to drive every car 50-100 miles. The best are Hondas, they go away fast.
