  • Here's a very rare Robert Wadlow interview from 1937! I typed what they were saying to the best of my ability, so some words may be a little off. Nevertheless, enjoy!
    This is on a CD that you can buy here: www.altonmuseum.com/html/gift_...

      These videos you've posted are absolutely great finds! I too have been fascinated by Robert Wadlow and his story...not just his phenomenal height but about what he was really like as a person. It truly sounds like I'd have liked to have been his friend. I look forward to visiting your new webpage!

      @@britishchick09 Goliath was over 9 ft tall.
      He was 9'9".
      Imagine somebody or someone who is tall as Goliath like over 9 ft tall like 9'7" or 9'9" or short of 10 ft
      How would you guy's react if somebody's as tall as Goliath like way taller than Robert Wadlow?
      And how much that person weigh if he was like the same height as Goliath like 9'9"?

      +Nathan Kerr I watched the documentary about Robert, and it said he had an outlook on life that was pretty rare, especially for somebody his age. I have a feeling he knew that his life would be short, and that's probably why. I would have loved to have met him, or at least even seen him, with my own eyes. Alas, he died before two of my grandparents were even born.

      Nathan Kerr I feel one of the very unappreciated things about bobby was his ability to strike a bond with someone who he had barely met, for example one of his defensive partners VALAK. Valak isn’t the easiest of lasses to get along with, but Robert managed to engage in a moving friendship with the interdimensional demon in a matter of minutes. R.I.P Bobby Wadlow - 37 AA - 409lbs - 272cm - 8’11.1 (correction 490lbs)

      @MVK123 4 роки тому +7

      His voice wasn't deep. He never went into puberty. This is what made the case so curious as he is the only known sufferer of a hyperactive pituitary gland not do so eventually. More importantly, not reaching puberty is why he never stopped growing, as it is what causes the brain to signal the gland to stop vertical growth. There are examples of other people with hyperactive pituitary glands who went through puberty in their early 20s, so it's possible he would have too had he lived.

    • @MVK123
      @MVK123 4 роки тому +36

      @@LS-jk3fk His height is what indirectly caused his death. His heart struggled to circulate blood through his growing body and the poor circulation led to numbness in his lower legs. So when he got a blister on his foot which later became infected, it wasn't detected in time as he couldn't' feel it. He sadly then died from that infection.

      @@MVK123 I came here to second what you said. While we can't prove this irrefutably of course, it stands to reason that cardiac insufficiency and peripheral vascular issues were likely contributing factors to his demise for the reasons you just mentioned. We see that all too often in larger people.

    • @jivejudd1023
      @jivejudd1023 7 років тому +80

      Its because as a result of gigantism which is what Robert had. He had a tumor in his pituitary gland and symptoms of these included a thickened facial frame, and also a thicker larynx, which is why him and women of very tall height, sound so deep :)

    Its interesting that people with Gigantism or pituitary gland syndrome, as both may be, i am not a doctor, have a similar tone to their voice. Oddly, its like its slowed down in tone. Sounds almost fake, but we have all heard Andre. This is so amazing, i love it beyond my belief. To put a voice to the pictures i saw as a child to the face is something special to me. And so wondrous. Thank you for putting this up on UA-cam :)

      It's partially because acromegaly causes the size of the vocal folds and tongue to increase, creating a deeper voice, and dysarthric speech.

    Wow, this is a GEM of an audio recording!!! This is SUPER-RARE!!! A 19 year old ROBERT PERSHING WADLOW...WOW!!! Just think, he was 8'7 here. He was 8'11 at 22 years old. He grew 4 more inches by that time. So that means he GREW OVER AN INCH each year, until the time of his death. Robert, may u REST IN PEACE. He was truly a GENTLE GIANT!

This interview probably made him feel just like everyone else. And it was awesome how proud of his little brother he was.

      Circuses were a big thing back in the early 20th century. They would have wanted to promote it and get people intrigued. Since being a part of the circus was similar to getting into Hollywood back then. You needed skill or natural talent.

    His voice is not on a lower tone than the voice of the interviever. its just different formats, eg. overtones, that give the different sound. While the Interviewer has his palate sail and tonge up his nose, bob has has te tonge down his throat.... that wat makes them sound different,.

    • @alyshan.mccarty5885
      @alyshan.mccarty5885 7 років тому +2

      No no,he has a really low Voice.Its not just the Format.My voice is similiar to Roberts but im only 6 foot 6 inches tall.Most people are scared of my Voice.Ive had alway much Bass since i was 19 years old,mbut then i started to smoke much Marihuana and drunk a lot of Beer and now i am 35 years old and my Voice is ultra deep like roberts or Andre the giants.I like my Voice.

    • @patrickberger9708

      Alysha.He is talking bullshit.His and my Voice are low because weve have very large Adamsapple.When i was 14 years old my adams apple was twice the size of an 30 year old Male.My mother saw my apple and she said to me.When you grow up you will have a very deep voice.The Human Voice is made by your lungs,adams apple and Testosteron.

      Patrick Berger
      It doesn't really mean that much to me. Perhaps It is hard to fully guage the type of voice sometimes because the microphones of the time didn't pick up all of the little nuances. The microphone could have been making both people sound higher pitched than they actually were, or it may not have been able to pick up on the bass in Robert's voice. To me, his voice sounds pretty normal pitched, maybe even a little high in some spots...but it could just be the microphones. Another thing to consider is that the sound has to go through UA-cam conversions (notice the highest quality available is 240p), which could distort the sound and make it higher pitched. I don't know all about audio, but it seems like a reasonable theory.
