- It's new seat day! I'm focused on a long distance trip I'm headed on this June and I need a new seat. I also wanted a great seat for two-up. the Saddlemen Step-up is perfect for both. In this video, I talk about why I chose the Saddlemen step-up, installing it, and then go for a ride to give my first thoughts.
You can buy your very own Saddlemen Step up at Amazon by clicking here: amzn.to/2G2gJxr

Great stuff love the videos. I’m looking into an 883 as my third bike im so into the fact the sportsters can be switched to endless styles both cosmetically and even different styles of riding. Down here in south Florida I see a lot of guys riding them off-road then hitting the streets and popping the clutch. Man you can’t beat that. Ride safe and keep the videos coming!
Thanks man! It'd be fun to buy a really old sporty and mod it out to a scrambler. The iron is perfect for popping the clutch. Thanks for watching!
Killing me with that seat! I need one immediately. Give me an update after you have a few miles on it.
Dude, I will for sure. I've only put 20 miles on it and I already love it.
Great Egret they aren’t giving away those seats are they. I thought my mustang was pricey. Love the looks of it. What is the pan made of?
Hell no, I wish. The pan is fiberglass and it feels harder than my steel-panned LePara.
Great Egret my mustang is fiberglass also. Only way to go holds its shape and doesn’t flex.
Damnit man, your video just cost me 500 bucks. Trigger pulled can’t wait. New saddle for the spring riding season. 👍
Thanks for the shoutout! New seat looks good. Great video! 👍🏻
Not a problem. Others have done the same for me and when I see a creator headed in the right direction, I'll pay it forward. Keep up the good work, man!
Great Egret i should be doing a video this weekend. I will be sure and do the same! 👊🏻
Are you able to ride? 16° and tons of snow here today.
Great Egret weather hasn’t been great. Had cold rainy and windy days lately. Saturday will be in the 50s. Should be out and about.
Man that seat looks so good with the green paint.
Man, I agreed. So good!
You just made me order that seat for my Iron 883!
Leo, it's such a great seat! Check out the video I did after about 15K miles on the seat.
Must have recorded this just prior to the fresh snowfall throughout WI. Good video.
Thanks Vetter! You know it. This was recorded on March 1.
I ordered the Saddleman Step up with red stitching on the diamonds from Dennis Kirk today. You should totally get credit for the purchase! I've watched this video several times and many of your Rte 66 videos which cemented my decision. I would have ordered the Burly Bar but they aren't going to be in stock until the middle of next month.
Thanks Joe!
Man, I can’t believe I missed this comment. Sorry for the late reply. How do you like the step up?
@@GreatEgret I found it to be exactly how you described it, break in and comfort. I think it is the perfect all around seat for an 883. It isn’t too small and it doesn’t look like it belongs on an Electra Glide.
That’s really great to hear! Definitely like that it doesn’t looks like it belongs on an Electra Glide.
@@GreatEgret Oh, and the Burley Sissy bar arrived a while back. I want to get it on the 883 this week. Its been a crazy couple of months for me. I hope your Holiday Season is awesome and not too stressful!
@@pinkiewerewolf you’re going to love that sissy bar. It’s pricey, but worth every penny. I have this whole week off from work so I’m going to spend it with my family, dream about motorcycling in the spring, and pump out a bunch of videos! I hope your holidays are wonderful!
I have a 93 sportster n i just rebuild then engine n got the step up seat too, gonna ride from San Antonio Texas back home to Santa Ana California
That’s badass doing that ride on a 93! Let me know how the ride goes!
Another great video. I always feel good after watching your vids. Great vibe. Thanks brother.
Thanks man! That mean a lot to me.
Dude thanks to your video I just ordered one! I have a saddlemen on my lowrider and love it picked up an 883 to practice wheelies on lol
I'm 100% going to start practicing wheelies now.
That is a nice looking seat! I do like the look of a solo seat on a cruiser, but that makes a nice fit!
My ass will like the gel for sure
I looked at that exact Burley sissy bar and it says not for passengers only to hang things like packs. The bar I bought looked almost exactly like it and one of the bars broke in half after 800 miles and it says for passengers. I was blessed my wife hadn’t rode with me yet with that bar. She would have went right off the back. I measured the metal thickness and was only 14 gauge tubing. I think sissy bars and handle bars should be DOT approved. It was bad engineering as the metal just fatigued from the vibration of my Streetbob. It wasn’t even a weld that broke. The one I got now is solid metal and not lightweight tubing.
Yeah, these type of bars are definitely not for passengers.
I suppose Tony Cox sent me? I forgot to subscribe awhile back and had been wondering if you were still making videos! Man does your bike look good with that seat!
Tony has some great content, so it's truly an honor to have him mention me. I love that seat. Perfect balance between form and funtion. That's for subscribing!
Ah man I’m glad I found your channel!!! You already gave me so many ideas coming up for my sturgis trip!! Please whenever you can make an update for this seat. If you believe is good for long rides I’ll pull the trigger on one because I need something better than stock! You said you are in Madison WI!! If you ever do a ride towards Kenosha I would love to come and ride with!!!
Dude! That should be an amazing ride for you! I'll definitely have a full review video well before Sturgis in August. I ride a ton, so it'll likely not be very long before I put it together. Let's try and get together for a ride. There are a few others in Wisco that are subscribers that I'd love to ride with too. Maybe a ride to the H-D museum this summer for a bunch of us?!
Great Egret awesome!! I can’t wait for you to come up with the video!! Sturgis I know!! It’s gonna be something else!! Let me know when are you getting together with ppl and I will get the day off to go to Madison!!
Dude! I'm itching to ride with others. Want to make plans to ride soon?
Great Egret yess!! Hahaha just let me know ahead of time! I have slight bad news though. I sold my iron to my brother and I got an older street glide.. but that doesn’t stop me from goin on a ride.
That seat kind of looks like my stock seat on my new 18 fatbob! Love it!
You went with the Fatbob rather than the Lowrider S? Congrats man! So jealous!
Good content man. I've been looking for a good review of this seat. Subbed
Matt Murphy thanks man! Glad I could help out. Once I get more miles on it, I'll have a full review. Likely after my cross-country trip this summer
Just dropped 500 on this seat it was a lil more than online since I had the gel added to the Passanger seat as well should be ready by the end of the week to pick up can't wait
It ain't cheap, but so worth it compared to other seats. Let me know how you like it.
Definitely buying a saddlemen for my 883. I’m trying to decide between the tuck&roll and the cross stitch pattern
Cross stitch baby if you can find any!
Definitely agree with cross stitch over the tuck & roll. In Saddlemen speak, this is called lattice-stitch. I’ve had both and I’m about to buy my third. Definitely going LS.
Nice seat, I really like that style. Looks great!
Thanks Jim! I hope all is well in PA and you get some late winter/early spring riding in soon.
Thank you for your review, it's help me make up my mind & buy the saddlemen for my sportster.
You're welcome, brother! Let me know what you think after you get some miles on it. 👍🤘✌️
Great Egret - yeah I will most likely make a video review on it.
Nice! Looking forward to it.
Hundred miles on the roads of Maine will break in a plywood seat! Thanks!
Im in Minneapolis, swing by and ill ride with you out to the West Coast! Got an 04 sporty with a 1250 kit i need to break in hahaha
Riding brothers are aways welcomed. I really want to upgrade to the 1275 kit Tony Cox did. Waiting for the warrenty to end in 2019 will be hard.
Great Egret do it, its insanely fun to do and ride!
Hi, what's your passanger review of the seat?! I just thinking of getting one, but don't know if it's confortable for the passenger. Great video.
If you plan on riding with a passenger, definitely pay a little extra to get the gel on the passenger part of the seat. You’ll have to special order it, but without it, long mikes for a passenger might be uncomfortable. With that said, it’s way more comfortable than the other options out there.
Great looking seat. I am looking at Corbin for my Scout. Saddlemen does not make one that fits my bike. I was curious how it would look, think I am convinced to move forward. Thanks for a great video
What color is your Scout? I think a tan or brown Brave Fastback would look pretty good on a black or green Scout.
Great Egret it is silver and black. Link to photo of the same bike I own.... cherokeecycles.net/Motorcycles-Indian-Scout-Sixty-ABS-2017-Greer-SC-665bb6fd-0688-4103-a87f-a7cc0148e23f
M Shep that's a mean looking bike. What Corbin are you thinking about?
Great Egret Thanks. I am looking at this seat. corbin.com/indian/isctb.shtml. Would love your thoughts and feedback. You won’t hurt my feelings unless you tell me my kids are ugly. Lol 😀
www.rolandsands.com/product/507/rsd-2-up-scout-boss-seat/black. Kinda so so on this one
💯 subscribers!!! Good job 👍
Thanks man! Coincidentally, the 💯 th subcriber is the marketing manager at Open Road Harley where I bought my bike. 👍🤘✌️
Great Egret Nice 👍
101 now :)
You know it, Cal. Thanks for coming along on the ride. 👍🤘✌️
I’m picking up this seat tomorrow after watching this ! I’ll let you know what I think
Sweet! Definitely let me know what you think!
Okay I have about 200 miles in the step up .....it just gets better....easy change and great results! Locked in but still very comfortable. I like that it is narrower. Gel is incredible. If you’re ever in Mesa/Scottsdale area let me know.
That's awesome, man!that seat really is one of the best things I've changed on my bike! It's highly likely that I'll be in that area in the future. I was there 3-4 over the last few years.
Awesome video, bike looks nice, what kind of windshield you got on your bike?
Thanks man! That's the Memphis Shades Del Rey Sportshield. I have a review video of it on the channel and I'll have a long-term and long distance riding review of it soon.
Going to that seat, your bike sounds awesome, what pipes are you running.
That seat is amazing. I have the Vance & Hines Big Radius
I had bought one of those seat lock screws but the Iron883 has that bracket with the nut welded to bracket underneath the fender. Also the third/last hole to screw down the step up seat is not the same as the usual seat hole. Did you just reuse the screw that was originally there or do you have recommendations on hardware to use the secure the seat?
Is this the “profiler” saddlemen?
I have a 2014 Iron 883 & I bought the seat you linked in a different video but it didn't fit. However, I bought the seat you linked in THIS video. I'm hoping it will fit on my motorcycle. Do you think I'm putting the seat incorrectly? I'm confused because in THIS video I have the seat you are installing and it works but it didn't on mine?
Also, you have linked a different seat in this video than the one you have shown in the video
Let me know what you think
Thanks for the content.
Mine is a 2017. The 2016 and up have a bit different rear design than the older 883s because of the upgraded shocks. I’m sure though that won’t affect the step-up on the 2014. I just used the fit guide at Amazon and double checked the model number at Saddlemen Truthfully, I’ve never put a seat on a 2014, but with the cross checking I did at Saddlemen the Step-up I’ve linked here should fit your bike. Good luck!
@@GreatEgret Yes, the link in this video does state the seat will fit on my 2014 883 according to the fit guide on Amazon. Thanks for the feedback
Ok I have to ask now because I didn’t see it in the comments below. What model helmet is that? Looks nice.
That's the Shoei Quest. They don't make it anymore, unfortunately.
Is that all it fits by just the 1 screw at the back and nothing holding it in the middle?
The long tongue in front holds it much better than the stock seat and design holds it in place with just the bolt in the rear. Super stable. I rode 25K miles on mine without issue.
The guys that wheelie and drift harleys prefer these seats
99 subs!! Who's going to be lucky 💯?
I started the channel to show my family and friends I'd be safe on a motorcycle. I honestly didn't think any more would watch but them. 😀
Does it fit on a 48? I couldn’t tell from the online stores. I also think the La Pera Kickflip is kick ass!
I think the tank is too small on the 48 to make it fit. Give Saddlemen a shout to find out for sure. That Kickflip is definitely kick ass!!!
Any care advice. Seat soaked a lot of water when washed the bike.
Mine got wet in the rain on a long trip a few years ago. Grab a large towel and dab it against the seat to soak up most of the water. Then put it in the sun as soon as you can. You can use a hair dryer, but I wouldn't make it a regular thing.
@@GreatEgret Thanks. Did that and have kept in an air-conditioned room to get all the moisture out.
I need something that sits lower than stock. Do you have any recommendations? Please note I like the look of the step-up.
For your lowrider, right? I love the Step-up, but if you're looking to go lower, the Step-up is not for you. It will position you similar to stock. Going lower is easier if you only need a solo seat. How much lower are you looking to go and do you need a 2-up? I can give you some suggestions based on that.
Yes, for my low rider. I’m 5’6”. 1” lower would be perfect. I do need 2 up.
Your options are pretty limited right now. I think the closet thing that you'd want that would lower you, allow for 2-up, and be similar to the Step-up would be the Corbin Widowmaker. The LePara Cherokee or Maverick could also work. The Daytona could also be an option, but from what I've heard and read it's not so comfy for the passenger. Let me know what you go with. Also love to hear what works and what doesn't for other riders.
I like that jacket. Where is it from?
Thanks for watching! It's made by Milwaukee Leathers. It saved my skin in a lowside crash last October. Great jacket. I got it from Amazon. Here's a link: amzn.to/2JoGtFf
Thanks alot! Really appreciate.
Next month I'll be getting that seat..... Ride hard or stay home😎
Love it, dude!
Hey when you installed this was your back hole on the fender keyholed or was it just round mine is just round and I cannot get the nut plate in just curious
Mine just has the hole as well in the back. I just used the nut and bolt below it and made sure it was tight but not too tight to damage the fender. Check it after few rides and every few hundred and you should be good.
Ok that’s what I did as well just worried about damage to fender but looks like it will be fine thanks. Keep up the awesome videos
Cut the fender back with the new seat
Roadster is a two seater
what's a good shock upgrade for riding two up on the 883?
I jokingly want to say, "buy a bagger" 😂 I don't have the knowledge to answer your question because I've never upgraded, but I'm putting touring model shocks on my bike soon. We'll see how that goes.
Whatcha gunna do with them seats. You let them go with your iron?
Sold the Aviator shortly after this video and I’ll be using the Step-up on another bike soon! 😎
@@GreatEgret NICE!! That’s awesome news. I can’t wait to see what you have in mind. Stay safe
Thanks, man! I should have a new video with the Saddlemen later this week.
@@GreatEgret I’ll be sure to like the video and comment.
Any idea if this fits the 2019-2020 sportster? Thanks
You bet it does. It’s a great seat!
@@GreatEgret guess it’s different for the 3,3 gallon than the 4,5 tanks right?
It is. Sorry, I wasn’t aware that you have a 4.5. They make models for both. If you’re shopping on Amazon, it might be a good idea to cross reference the model number over at Saddlemen.com.
Great egret, can I fit softail seat for sportster48? Thanks
Hi Duc! For sure! The same seat I have is for all Sportster models.
I get bad tail bone pain on the stock how is this one ?
Man, I have about four videos talking about just the Step-up and how amazing it is and a full Route 66 series with about 40 videos where I rode 4500 miles on it. Just an amazing seat all around. It’s on sale at Amazon now with the link in the description.
@@GreatEgret sorry man I stumbled on this by a random UA-cam algorithm. I haven’t watched the others
No reason to apologize. I’m glad you stumbled upon it. Just letting you know how amazing a seat it is and letting you know I have other videos on it. Thanks for watching.
off topic but what brand bike jacket is that?
Ain't no such thing as an off topic question in the comments section of a UA-cam video :-) That is the Milwaukee Leathers Disstressed Brown leather jacket. I've had it for three years and I love it! Here is a link to buy it on Amazon: amzn.to/3782C6y
Nice beats!
Thanks! Seemed fitting for this vid
Whats the longest ride youve been on with that bike?
Without stopping for fuel, about three hours. With several fuel stops, I've ridden eight or more hours. The last long ride was last September heading back from the Midwest Moto Meetup. That was about seven hours.
@@GreatEgret Thats awesome! Ride. Safe keep up the videos
Does that seat fit on the Sportster 48 ?
It does! It's a perfect seat for the 48.
What air cleaner kit is that?
It's the Joker Machines High Performance Finned air cleaner. You can get it from Amazon here: amzn.to/2KVIOqZ
I just subscribed
Thanks, bro! I’m working on a new Sporty build using another Step-Up. Such a great seat!
Will this fit a 2019 48 special?
You bet it will! It would look damn sexy on it too!
Man I want that
Ha! I responded to your previous message before seeing this. The Step-Up is an amazing seat. Let me know what you decide to go with.
the seat always comes lose after a while
You have the Step-Up or another seat? Front bolt or far rear bolt? Use a little lock tight on the bolt if you're really having issues. Also, make sure the the bolt holes are not loose under the fender. The hole for the OEM seat is that metal piece I removed with a shoelace in this video the hole for the Step-up is a plastic piece under the fender. Finally, make sure you have the tongue in front securely grooved in under the tank. If it's not set right, you'll get too much movement no matter what seat you use. Especially if you move around on the seat a lot like i do.
stock seat with pillion seat
I’ll buy your old seat lol
Woo hoo....you go cheese head!
Is my asigio showing? 😁
I live in Milwaukee.....gotta support my fellow Wisconsinite.
I have been debating the step-up for my 2018 Fatboy. Your video is very helpful.
You going to make it to the 115th Anniversary? Work is going to be busy for me then, but I'm going to try and get there.
I work for the motor company. I will be at the House of Harley doing demos during the anniversary celebration.....working as well.
Nice! I really hope to get there. Thanks for subscribing and watching!
Saddleman seats made out of plastic and fiberglass...no leather!! No thanks!!
Most seats are made out of marine grade vinyl. It holds up much better than leather. There's a good reason leather isn't used in wet environments. Your motorcycle seat is no different.
@9:42 I wish you could pull on the throttle to, but since your all outfitted in your Baahaahaa sons of malarkey Trade marked matching bandana / Flannel. Im pretty sure thats out of the question there bevis. Awkward. How did the Hell did I stumble apon watching a dufuss with a gay83 anyways , when I was just looking for Saddleman's geeeshhh...
I bet you TONS of fun at parties. The title says Iron 883 🙄, so this one is on you.
Is this the “profiler” saddlemen?
Step-up
