How to fix a stretched/squished screen/desktop (Resolution)

Today Im going to show you how to fix your stretch/squished screen/desktop. (other words: Resolution)
There are 2 ways to fix your resolution:
1. Changing it manutally
2. Installing your video drivers (which many explain why your screen settings were not correct)

@@owo551 It happened to me to! I fixed it by restarting computer and then clicking "auto" on my monitor just as log on screen appeared

Ever since I updated to windows 8 its stretched my screen and sometimes it goes black
The long winded computer nerd narrator rambled on and on about drivers, etc. but neglected to put "on your desktop" after "right click." I wonder whether others who kept clicking in the wrong place simply concluded the instructions didn't apply to their particular version of Windows and just put up with the stretched screen.
none of my options say recommended and I only have 2 choices please help
well if you still have the same problem it should say detect somewhere and that is the same as recommended if that still doesn't work then just flip through them until you find something comfortable
Optional update look for nvidea or raedeon install graphics driver and run program

I know my computer monitor is going to seem weird for a while, but I'm an artist, and it was really frustrating drawing something on my computer and having it be super thin on my phone. I thought it was just a weird device thing (my phone is one of the taller models), but it was the computer's screen the whole time! Thank you! Now people can view my drawings the way they were meant to be seen :D

This saved me from a full blown panic attack i was falling into. I somehow changed the resolution on my laptop from the keyboard and had no idea how to fix it. So helpful!
Hi! i have a Windows 7, I tried to download a game called Valorant but it said that i had to restart (i dont remember why) so i did, i waited for my pc to finish starting up but when i came back something called a StartUp Repair is ongoing, i reboot my pc again hoping it would go away but it still won't, i've rebooted it countless times, but i think me not paying attention to it while its booting up caused me to not notice something. I reboot it but this time i pay attention, there was this black screen that gave me 2 options, either do the startup repair again or start it normally, ofc i picked to start it normally, then theres some kind of disk check, one of the actions that appeared was "deleting index entry", i let it sit for a few minutes to finish the disk check then it finally booted up normally, but this time the screen was super squished and some files appeared as if they didnt have a program to be opened on e.g microsoft word and google chrome. I tried adjusting the resolution but it was still squished, i checked for updates but there was some kind of error.
last place where i would look for help, nothing else works... Thanks so much better than windows website help xD
You can just restart your computer too! If it doesn't work, then idk. But it worked for me!!!

There should be a 'Personalize' button, click that and there's a list of settings you can fix. At the end, there's display Settings and click that. Then you can fix you screen by adjusting it. Hope this helped :/

I'm thinking the reason why my computer got squished in was because of my Sims 4. Imma try restarting it, if that doesn't work i'll unplug it and plug it back in. You all should try it it might fix the problem. ^^

What if it’s big from the beginning
I have a dell dimension 2400 and it pisses me off its only 800x600 16 bit color and it wont give me any other option i will try the windows update you mentioned so i will be back in 2 days when i get home

Resolution may not be the fix for a stretched screen. These people will need to change the scaling. Something i cant figure out on my amd ryzen 3 2200g
Just an advice, your viewers finding videos like these, will most likely come from having a problem wanting to fix it, not because they are one of your subscribers. So it would make sense not to talk to your subscribers in the beginning of the video, since this is irrelevant to those who come here to fix their screen

This happened to me when the cat walked over my laptop keyboard. I did a system restore. I later found a simpler solution: hold down Fn key, press space bar, use space bar to move to 'normal' setting.
I uninstalled my intel graphic driver with ddu now i got this terrible screen

Bro help me PLSSSS!!!! I only have 1024x768 and 800x600, I reformat this laptop cause it has many problems and before the reformat i have many resolutions including the recommended one. But after i reformat my laptop it only have 1024x768 and 800x600 resolution.. Reply ASAP.....

Start menu search bar device manager find the model of gpu go to nvidia or r whoever website check series eg 660ti that's a 6 series find one that matches download and run

Help,i buyed an new Video Card(GPU) and,my monitor cable was not compatible with my GPU and to fix that,i went to a service and they told me that i need to get a new monitor cable,and they recommended me a VGA cable,and now all my resolution is broken and i don't get the recommended resolution,i have all my drivers UP TO DATE and i am still having this problem! I can't seem to find the right resolution for my new PC, it's all stretched beyond the screen. When I used this same monitor to project my laptops screen it's resolution was 1024x768, but now when I use this resolution (and the recommended resolution) it's too small lengthwise and too long height-wise (recommended is too big both height and lengthways.)

I need your help one day i just turned my ocmputer on and it was squashed from up and down and bigger to left and right how u said and now i cant go in any games it just sends me a black screen with message USE 1366x768@60Hz i did 60Hz but i cant find 1366x768 i can only find ones that start with 1360 not 1366

I have to picket Recomaded resolution on my PC but my video is still too wide cuts of sides and you keep having to moving it left to right. I was trying to an absolute in Excel (f4 key) and it keeps making wider and wider how can I fix that Thanks

If you have one picture and you have dual monitors and you wish to put a picture across two monitors then right click > Personalise, then under Choose Fit > Span. You're welcome.

i was watching this video because my 2nd screen doesnt show the 1920x1080 and at the same time i think a fix for my 2nd monitor , to just download again the drivers and i was watching the video and downloading the drivers and i got scared because my monitors just got black BUT! i am ok with my monitor because of the re-download of the drivers :D
dude when i try to install NVIDIA display update my laptop shuts down{not actually shuts down ,instead it shows a black screen with the power button still on} ,,i waited for it for hour but still the same problem
thank you so much! right click screen then go to screen resolution. I had to fix my screen because I guess one of the plugs had a weak wire and so it was staticing and I tried to fix it by pressing one of the buttons on my monitor. i had to adjust the wire to fix it. have had my compoter for a while now i guess its getting old
doesnt work, i changed my resolution to 1680 x 1050 to get a bigger screen but when I changed it the icons were slightly stretched

the problem was my VGA cable was so fucking retarded the whole screen was blurry and resolution was fucked up

Hey i found weird thing does in my computer . When i was browsing firefox keeps like loading and then stop and then loading again . When i open avast it say protected .then i push the window button than keep disappearing and appear . I was so scared . And shut down
mines a 10 so it dont show up BUT i did click display and there it was , the resolution 13 something x something and i fixed it please pin so many can see
