Thanks for posting the repair video. My 1993 XJ was rolled, so yeah, it was totaled. But the underbody was still rust free... Since I wanted another XJ, I found a nice 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport in the Solar Yellow. My main concern was the drive train, and the underbody condition. Everything runs great, and the underbody is rust free. Windshield Washer Pumps, or any of that dumb stuff, I can deal with. It's my wife that's freaking out about it... Calm down dear, calm down......
I’m doing this tomorrow on mine. Glad I found the video, because I woulda pulled off my cowl plates and wondered where the hell the washer pump was . lol 😂
Great video. Easy to follow. Just one problem. You clearly stated you were replacing the motor on top for the REAR wiper motor. At the end, however, you only showed us the pump working great for the front wipers which the motor was not broken to begin with! lol
I just wanna to say thank you for your video. I had just finished replacing both front and rear washer pumps on my cherokee 1999, and it went almost exactly how you showed. I read the instructions that came with the pumps and they were so off base Lord knows what would have happened had I not watched your video first. Thanks again. -dave-
I bought these pumps from Rockauto, they offered several brand of pumps some specified front or rear, but the ones I bought said they'd fit either, there was a wire adapter (that came with the pumps) that I put on the rear (if I remember correctly) but the pumps were the same.
They are basically the same pump but the front comes with a little wire adapter. You can either buy a front or rear or just 2 fronts and you will be fine.
Austin, You make great videos. Here is a suggestion for your next one. I purchased an aokur 4.3" backup camera from Amazon for $39.90 It is a direct-connect model, I wired it ignition hot to not have to wait for the image to appear. I mounted the LCD screen on the passenger column post above the seatbelt connection, I mounted the nice small camera inside the XJ centered on the plastic moulding strip. It's out of the weather and works perfectly thru the top of the rear window. It comes on with the ignition and stays on, no need to shift into reverse to see behind you. All wiring is hidden under the console, carpet and trim. The LCD is in a natural viewing position and does not interfere with driving, so wiring a camera to the reverse light is not the way to do it.. This aokur model is way better than the cameras that send a radio signal to the LCD which takes too long for the image to appear, you've already backed up 10 ft. before it come on with a clear picture. This is the third backup camera that I've installed, now I have it perfected. After watching your videos, I'm confident that you can turn this into a great video. Thanks ~ Maurice
I just did this on mine, the spot on lower pump where hose connects broke and leaked, so I swapped both while I was in there. Napa sells a replacement pump (part # BK 6653902) that fits perfectly for both front and rear pumps and the motor is painted so it won’t rust as fast, nicer than the brass counterparts I saw on Amazon or AA. Also it wasn’t as easy to get in there as I thought haha
Thanks for the instructions. Do you know if the same washer pump is on the model before 97 and on 97? Mine just died on 97 and my friend have older XJ for parts...
I have an 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee I think it's limited with a 6 cylinder front and rear of about that one know anything about that thanks have a great day evening
Question. Are the grounds for both pumps attached together? Both pumps quit working and I haven't located a fuse issue. Because both pumps are located on different switches, I'm speculating that a circuit is not completing. Ideas? Anyone, anyone, Buehler, Anyone?
I believe they share a ground. But it is not apparent at the pump end. They splice into each other further in the wiring harness then it grounds out to the inner fender on the drivers side. There should be a screw that grounds a few wires from the harness there, behind the ECU towards the firewall. But I would start at the pump end and test if you are getting power with a multimeter.
Yes they are both basically the same, only difference is the front pump comes with a wire adapter but the rear pump wont need it. So buying 2 front pumps to do both works fine.
I went straight to your channel when I lost washer pump. You're the best jeeper on UA-cam for diy!
You just simplified my angst. I thought I was going to have to do a bunch of work. Great tutorial.
Excellent instructions. Would never have expected to find the pump inside the fender liner.

Thanks a ton! You have a new subscriber. I just inherited a 2001 XJ. Had a 1993 for 21 years... best vehicle ever in my stable.
You're a really good teacher! Thank you for the video, looking forward to learn more from you
Once again you made a how to vid that makes sense and gets to the point! Thank you! =D
I’ve got to do both thanks for your videos yours are the ones I like the best.
Awesome! Thank you!
I just replaced the front washer pump today thanks for the help
Great video! Very helpful and easy to follow!
My next project on my 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport, thanks for posting. 👍
Good video. I've started to fiddle with my rear wiper and wouldn't be surprised if I have to replace the motor.

are they the same pump for front and rear?

I'll look into it for sure, thanks for the info.
Push in, little centre pin, while prying! I used a small Allen key, and vice grips, as a handle.
Thank you good video.

GReat job thanks very helpful
Great video ,Thanks
Thank you very much!
Thanks Man !
What was the wheel and lift specs in this video?
Thanks for the instructions. Do you know if the same washer pump is on the model before 97 and on 97?

They will not transfer over. The wiring may be the same but the connection to the tank is different.
@@OutJeeping thanks! 👍

Hey @OutJeeping I have a question I'm trying to restore my 1993 XJ's winshield washer nozzle can you make a video on how to remove and replace it
If I get the opportunity I'll see if I can make one
The rear motor was the one that wasn't working, so you need to show the rear washer to demonstrate that the new motor worked!
What you don't believe me? lol
Can you pull the entire reservoir out this way?
Yep, just need to remove a few more bolts and the filler neck.
Good deal man thanks for getting back to me
So will one part work for both or do I need to get two different ones? Like the 174347 and 174348 from ACI.
They are pretty much the same. I think just one comes with a different wire plug but you can reuse the old one.
You are awesome!!!!!,🔴🫢🤫
Are they the same motor? So I just have to buy two of the same one?

@@OutJeeping that was helpful. I will test at the pumps first.

Only thing that drives me nuts is you only replaced one haha same labor for one or two and only a few bucks for two. Nice video though thank you
I hooked mine back up and knocked the hose off to squirt at cars that get on my ass!
lol
😂 they think it’s funny too is the problem! But, they get the point. They normally point and laugh and then pass.
