I remember Montana's "reasonable and prudent" speed limit system in the 90s. That was for cars, trucks had a definite speed limit which, ironically, was lower than that of Washington. Seemed like the natives did drive reasonably and prudently. It was the visitors being reckless, and those you'd see pulled over all the time.

Greetings! To answer one of your questions, in 1987 Professor Harry Hurt of the Univ. of SoCal published what since has become known as the "Hurt Report". The study was intended to assess existing data on motorcycle accidents, however it also answered one of your questions. In the report Hurt states that speed is not the major killer, it is speed differential. So when you mentioned states that have different speed limits for cars and trucks, these are the states that do not know what differential speeds mean. Your reaction times vary little with speed, however the reaction distance is necessarily longer with higher speeds. Therefore when a vehicle moving slower than you, and increasingly with slower speeds, does something which affects much faster drivers, these faster drivers cannot react fast enough and slow quickly enough to avoid impact.

Hi Mike,I'm associated with the creator/executive producer of the mid 1970's NBC TV series Movin'On.This was a trucking show filmed on location in the Western and Eastern United States from July 1974 to December 1975.Five episodes were shot in Oregon.[Astoria/Seaside/Portland/Hood River/The Dalles/Troutdale/Shaniko Oregon]..One of those episodes is titled "Grit" and was partially filmed at the old Burns Brothers truck stop there in Troutdale. That truck stop is long gone.It was once located at or beside the McDonalds restaurant were you were at this videos opening.Another episode titled "Lifeline" was partially filmed in The Dalles Oregon. The cast/crew stayed at the old Portage Inn in The Dalles.....Enjoying riding shotgun with you!....Check out the series here on UA-cam=MOVIN'ON...Season 1 and 2.

As to the video quality, there was quite a bit of artifacting (blocking) even though TubeYou claimed it was 720P, it would sometimes look like potato-cam. I don't know what camera you use, but if it supports manual focus, then set it auto-focus, zoom to the most distant object you are likely to wish to see, let it focus, then switch to manual focus, and zoom out. Now everything will be in focus and there will be no hunting.

14:30 differential speeds for trucks and cars. In New Zealand, the general Open Road and Motorway speed limit is 100Km/Hr (62.5 mph). For Busses and Heavy Goods Vehicles (above about 5,00Kg) it is a limit of 90Km/Hr (56mph). The cops give very little leeway above those figures and speed cameras are used widely -- both fixed and mobile units. Bastards!

In the days of Lewis & Clark, the westbound expedition along here couldn't stomach the fish, so they had to eat caballo, purchased from local indigenous people. If anyone goes west, out near Astoria Oregon, go see Ft. Clatsop! It was the winter-quarters for that expedition! Umbrella if in Winter!

Another fort, Fort Vancouver, used by the Hudson Bay Company back in 1829 as a trading post is also in Vancouver across the water from Portland. Reconstructed at the same spot it gives people the opportunity to see the real size and dimentions of those earlier dwellings. Almost laughable that they could keep anybody out but then no handy ladders around or someone trained in pole vaulting back then so I guess it worked for them in the wilderness.Vancouver has large original military buildings & housing called 'Officers Row'. If anyone comes to take in the falls you should come in the summer during the Rose Festival's Fleet Week in Portland. US Navy ships as well as the Coast Guard bring in ships for show and even the Royal Canadian Navy has shown up. ~Or if you like cooler weather just come in winter when the Oregon Zoo is dressed up for Christmas at night with lights, a train and hot cocoa. Portland International Raceway has it annual 'Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show' which is a huge display of lights, animation and special events. There is also a parade of boats dressed up in Christmas lights and pagentry going up & down the Columbian River. Make it at these times to feel the areas local charm.

I didn't want to fly so we got a sleeper on Amtrak. Took the stress out of driving. My husband was able to see the sights. I guess this is why you are videoing your trips..and catching the houses, cars, and sights as you pass by. One question I have for you (you can answer while trucking down the road) of all the places you have traveled, which one do you regret not stopping in and spending some time?

The roads in Great Britain, even the motorways, are not as conducive to high speeds as the interstate highways in western America. Likewise, the Midwest America is more congested with traffic and smaller roads, due to the fact that they were built/inhabited back when horses and coaches were the mode of transportation. It would be insane to drive semis at 75 mph in a state like Ohio.

Here in the UK, the speed limits vary but max for cars is 70mph and 'trucks' is 60mph, depending othe classification of road. Speed cameras everywhere but where there isn't, the police don't trouble you if you're seen to be driving safely at 80mph in a 70 limit when it's quiet (and no cameras). They're only interested in the idiots who put others at risk.

It's definitely more dangerous for fourwheelers and tractors to be set at different speeds. You have to remember that the government morons who set these rules have never been in a tractor. And too they probably are lousy drivers to start with. I know I used to be a long-hauler before I retired.

I believe dual speed limits would be more common in Democrat run states because socialists like creating regulations and policies that sound good to their supporters, even if there is little evidence to support the policies effectiveness.
Doing what makes sense to an intelligent person is less important than giving their supporters the illusion of safety and making themselves appear useful. Many of their proposed gun control policies are along the same lines, they might sound good superficially, but when you honestly analyze them they would have no positive effect.

We all got sick of your constant moving the camera. There is no need to see every ml of scenery that you are passing. No biggie but we are done with this. Have a nice day.

Sorry I am & most always been a slow driver ..Plus law behind me I mostly always pull over..& if they also pull over with me ..I honestly tell them ` I do so because they make me nervous & i may mess up my driving so i let them pass` Today letting a cop & 3 cars behind him go by..as i pull over ..the cop pull beside me.And said ` the speed limit on these county roads is 50 mph `..But then he added something about OK to go slower if being cautions or ? .... I had been going 38 mph ...
