    I spent 41 years driving for UPS, you passed one at the 30 minute mark in this video. As far as "shows", driving around L.A. all those years I saw a lot of crazy stuff. Keep the videos coming, I drove cross country for about 11 yrs of my career, Im sure you have seen the big white UPS sleepers. Im happily retired now but miss hammerin down the highway at times. So your videos are a welcome event.

      @@nightrunner1456 not at first, everything is seniority and you have to work your way up to the better routes or runs. I did 12 hour shifts 5 days a week. I worked local doing pickups at big accounts. Ran around the LA basin and all of southern Calif. Then I went cross country for about 11 years. I ran L.A. to Dallas twice a week, or Chicago or Greensboro etc. Then I ran L.A to Vegas and back every night etc. When you first start out you mostly run trailers into the piggy back yards, all night long and that gets boring. Stay safe, I like the videos. Wish I was still out there, but when I really start to miss it I just park by the Interstate and smell some diesel fumes as they go by.

    Your videos bring home to us here in the UK,just how huge the USA is, we drive for 6 hours here in England we'd have went from one side of the country to the other and be headed out to sea, and half way to France/Holland or Belgium, plus we simply don't have that awesome scenery . Unfortunately we got no deserts or mountain ranges, got a shed load of old creepy castles and a stone henge thingymajig though. America that im seeing from your truck is absolutely breathtaking, and i must thankyou for sharing it with us, Im just a working class Briton, unlikely to ever get to really see this great country in person, but if i ever win the lottery im gonna come over hire a big billy be frigged RV and bop around for 4-6 weeks , na make it 4-6 months, yeah that's the ticket. I 'd love it, just running around these areas that you're showing us . Hey maybe i'll be one of those bods getting in your way holding you up driving slow ?? Ah well , i'm off to get my lotto ticket then. You keep up the good work geezer :D

      It makes you think that if old king George had won that little war called the revolution all this would be yours, but hey, you got Canada, that's a beauty, EH! My auntie Vera was from Liverpool my uncle married her when he was over there during ww2, we've.got a great country here if we can just keep the democrats out of the white house, our founding fathers wouldn't be too happy if thry turned us into a communist socialist nation.

    The story of that lady reminds me of a time long ago. I was driving with my husband on the highway late one night and this semi came up beside us. My husband turned on the interior light and proceeded to pull down his shirt, showing some shoulder. He had long hair and a fair face. The guy in the truck smiled at him. We had a good laugh with that one. Mostly because we weren't sure if the trucker thought he WAS a woman or a man! Fun times back then.

      Waneta, Shotgun is right, definitely best time to take that trip is in Spring/early Summer. In the Been There Done That Dept. I can also testify there are 3 seasons in that part of the world, snow, green and brown. Criss crossing mountain ranges too. Pretty drive but stay alert. Uuuuuuup hill and doooooowwn dale and curves watch out, occasionally people have lost their brakes. That's why they have those safety ramps oof side right on the down slopes and signs saying brake check area. Some of the rest areas in the Summer on I 5 they serve courtesy coffee and snacks, usually some group volunteers like a church, Rotary Club whatever. Mt Shasta area if you can, linger and explore. Dunsmiur is a cute little railroad town that makes a scenic last stop in NorCal, Shasta City stop at the Piedmont Italian Restaurant or this new Chinese place for Dinner. I used to live in McCloud, McCloud High School, all my teachers down there were great. The only zombie of all of them was oddly enough was the drama instructor.
      Hold off if you can until Medford and eat at Witham's Truck Stop. You often get more professional friendly service there. Grants Pass has some more good eateries. Easy on and off highway access too. Overnight? Generally Ashland or Grants Pass, Eugene considering smaller places. Haven't been to Cottage Grove or Roseburg for a long time, used to be nothing to write home about. Years ago stopped some place in Roseburg and god, they were rude! Almost half of the menu items were out and the person taking my order, finally Not, kept interrupting me with the traditional "Sorry we can't help you" routine before I finished a sentence. A couple other customers were getting the same treatment. All three of us decided to stop a little bit north for a bit more brain power and real service. Hope the people down there have gotten more mature since then.
      Down around those parts, there is the Umpqua River, Diamond Lake, and Crater Lake. From late Summer on some places turn brown and dry on the I 5 corridor. Always had to check for fire restrictions of course. From below Portland up to Puget Sound area it generally stays green because staying more westerly in the mountains. SoCal and So Oregon drier because I 5 goes leeward from the mountain ranges. C'mon out and enjoy the trip when you get the chance. Many truckers and tourists enjoy this route and coast or desert can be easily reached on the horizontal highways. Get out your Navigator function and check out places and attraction. Bon voyage to You and Yours.

    8hr sleeper resets the 14hr clock to where it was upon entering the sleeper, meaning that whatever hours are picked up on the 70hr clock at midnight are indeed usable, but only up to whatever remains on the "frozen" 14hr clock. That extra 2 hours only serves to reset your 11hr and 14hr clocks

    • @dons8122
      @dons8122 3 роки тому

      That would be a big Negative there good buddy. You can try to do that 8hr sleeper crap but you better still have 2hrs off duty some place you try to run after 8hrs in the sleeper they will hang you at the scales quicker than a side of beef

    • @LavenderSystem69
      @LavenderSystem69 3 роки тому

      @@dons8122 Hey, now. I never said not to bother with the 2 hours, thank you very much. In fact, I seem to recall mentioning precisely WHY that extra 2 hours is necessary.
      That being said, my original comment is outdated and no longer accurate, what with the new 7/3 rule replacing the old 8/2 rule. Now that both breaks stop the clock, it really doesn't matter what order you take them in, whereas I always used to advocate for taking the 2 hr and THEN the 8 hr for the simple fact that the 8 stopped your 14 while the 2 didn't.
      E: BTW, I didn't just "try" to pull off my 8/2 splits... I successfully managed them about once a week for just over a year and a half, with my logs standing up to scrutiny from LEOs every single time they got inspected. I think I know what I'm talking about, good buddy

    The red truck is 'drafting'. The truck in front breaks the air and the flow goes over both. He is saving fuel but that is very tricky if the first truck has to stop or slow quickly. The second truck might panic or run into the other. Done in race cars.

    FYI if you want a faster and better fuel mileage route when going through north Cal through Oregon to Washington Take the hwy 97 from weed up to hwy 58 in Oregon you have less Hills to climb less traffic. I've picked up my best times going that way gaining as much as 30mins and mileage wise you add 3miles if i remember right you also have 3 truck stops along the way Pilot in K falls, a Indian rez one about half hour up the road if i remember right and a pilot in Chemult Just a thought to any of you other drivers that can stray away from your routes.

      unless you have a short trailer or a Log truck it is not a challenge you want. I've seen plenty of drivers that took that exit before that sign was put up have to back up the off ramp to get out. I know your kidding ( i hope) but just keeping it real.

    In Oregon, an annual fishing lcense for nonresidents is expensive, but you can get a one-day license when you are in the state and just have time for a day of fishing. Getting caught fishing without a license wil be expensive and a lot of trouble.

    you get your 11hrs back after you take you 10 off. You do not get your hours back right after midnight unless your 10hrs was up before or right at midnight. I use to play one hell of a Log Book game with the DOT's on the west coast. The part that sucked was that Oregon and Washington Weigh in Motion scales talk to one another and those Cameras are on 24/7 and they read your plates. Only time in 20 years of driving i got caught with a bad log page was when i ran my last 4th of July run i forgot to put what time i was off duty and winged it after 3 days off. and got caught in Oregon in P.O.E NB.

      "How often does Mount Shasta erupt?
      On average, Mount Shasta has erupted at least once every 800 years during the last 10,000 years, and about once every 600 years during the last 4,500 years. The last known eruption occurred about 200 years ago, possibly in 1786.
      Eruptions during the last 10,000 years produced lava flows and domes on and around the flanks of Mount Shasta. Pyroclastic flows from summit and flank vents extended as far as 20 km (12.4 mi) from the summit. Most of these eruptions also produced large mudflows, many of which travelled several tens of kilometers from Mount Shasta.

    Just plan on always doing 10 hrs off instead of 8 hours. Gives you better flexibility for your next day. Just like it is always better to take your 34 hrs off if you are getting short on hours and you have to be off for 24 hours anyway. Planning your clocks is just as important as planning your route and the times you will be rolling through major cities. Avoiding rush hour traffic can save a couple of hour per day.
