Great setup for traveling and overnight stays, even with the slides in you maintain accessibility to bed, bath, and kitchen appliances. Not everyone wants a 40 foot, twenty slide model that takes a week to setup and then break down, sometimes simple and efficient is better.
This Fifth Wheel by Rockwood should be a winner for many potential customers. A shorter option is a must have as some campground sites are far too small for a typical sized 5th Wheel type.

Josh! You forgot to show us the garage! 🙂 I really like this rig. The numbers work really well with my 3/4 ton and it's gonna work at any national or state park. I love the integrated cargo rack on back to mount a generator, etc. for extended boondocking. My only is the dual sewer outlets. I *hate* that but totally get why they did it. Since that time Bish has taken outstanding care of them on their purchase of a used RV, pretty unheard of ,especially on used. They are extremely happy. That's what l was waiting for, for you to say a theater seating was available. Who-ya! Hugh walk in shower who-ya! Shower miser kool! Love the side tables in the bedroom and no closet on each side of the bed! I can't find anything wrong other than having to climb stairs to go to the bathroom! Great road mode! Dang! I have a half ton! An old half ton. So it means I have to buy a new truck as well. (Sigh) I love my 1/2 ton long bed pick em up truck!
In our Rockwood we collapse our kitchen table and booth into bed mode when we're traveling. We have more storage that way but we also don't have to worry about that table bucking around.
Josh, You are the greatest at providing useful and unbiased information. We are in the process of upgrading from a small TT to a sub 30ft FW. This Rockwood is on the shortlist. Are small fifth wheels stable in cross winds with their large sail area and light weight? Travel access is must for us and this has it. The over the bed access would be nice with struts but not a deal breaker.
This one is my 2nd choice. I live the 2442 bs with the counter. But this is great too. I would get the booth and put in a table that would raise to bar height for prep and choose theater seating for movie night. The only thing these two are missing to make them perfect is the floor sweep vacuum system!
Liked comments on kitchen nook appliance storage, adjustable table height, theater seating. Kitchen corner at an angle great spot for fold up top. Fireplace sounds great as well. Bedroom passenger side night stand, why not match other side?. 101" wide would be great as well. Thanks for the information and it's always informative 👍
3/4 ton truck on this one. Nice size for the design. Inverter is small. I think 2k inverter is minimum with solar use. 200 or 300 watt solar panel minimum too. The poop setup looks good, shower seems plenty good. We are still thinking on downsize from 39 footer 5th wheel to a 32 foot unit. I would keep my F350 DRW diesel truck tho. Thanks Josh. That corner gets a coffee maker and a toaster. Theater seat would be a must. Good job on the pocket door bath and the queen bed is fine. Travel access is exceptional. How many batteries? Generator prep? I could see me in one of these.
No factory batteries. That's stuff we can assist with on a per-client basis since different people want different batteries Gen Prep isn't something this brand offers as it turns out
That diagonal cabinet at the entrance might be a good spot for a small fireplace. Supplemental electric heat is nice to help extend propane usage. Think a bigger TV would fit if you were to remove some of that excessive wood trim.
I love just about everything about this one. To improve it a bit the shelf in the floor cabinet closest to the entry door should be removable. This would make an optional space for a tall kitchen trash can. Josh, I like that you have been pushing shades on entry door windows. But I would rather see the manufactures offer them like some class A motor homes have. Just hang a standard roller shade inside over the screen door. That way you can open / close the shade without opening the door. That would be an option I would be happy to pay for. Thanks for all the great vids.
I've often wondered when the wall isn't available to mount a TV why do they not do flip down system? Just wondering if there was a reason not like it wouldn't hold or something?
Josh did they change the type of auto leveling system on this from the Lippert? I don't see the rear jacks at all behind the rear wheels and where is the auto level controls now, they used to be in the wet bay?
I like this so much. For that corner in the kitchen, suggest to the mfr to put a tambour door there, making it an appliance garage. If they aren't going to put struts on the doors, they should open sideways so it's not an issue. The towel ring should be next to the sink, not over the toilet. There should be a towel bar or a couple of drunk octopus hooks above the toilet. would like a tootsie toaster, but I can see why they didn't put one in. I'd go with the cinema seat and a hybrid dinette with the bench on one side and chairs on the other.
Josh, so I have the bunk house version of this and that turning point hitch is problematic. I used to have a Reese goosebox and my trailer rode great. So I am hooked up on a 5th wheel now and roads beat the crap out of this unit because the hitch overrides the suspension. Last trip I lost the trim over the slide. I lose the fireplace front every trip. (We take it off now). And they could use brass inserts in their plumbing instead of plastic. Love my camper ....but the little things aggravate.

My contention is the use of the turning point hitch with it's bolt pattern instead of a more base hitch that can easily upgrade to a more common goosebox or gen y exec. With my goosebox we had nothing move around.
We just toured the 2023 model last week at a local dealer. It had the lighter Newport Ash interior. We prefer the darker wood tone in this unit. We would get it with the table and chairs. I liked the theatre seat until I realized that in this model it’s a shorter version and the center arm doesn’t tilt up out of the way, so no snuggling. I have two disappointments with this model. 1. The lack of struts on the bedroom overhead cabinets. 2. The bed is offset towards the door side making it very tight to walk beside the bed especially with the elevated wiring channel on the floor and the valance over the window. One thing I noticed that I’m not sure about is that the only heat vents for the living area are the 2 in the stair risers and there is no electric fireplace. IMO, you’ll definitely want to have some additional heating source like a portable ceramic heater.
Love it. Only wish list item would be a factory installed 5-gallon, separate drinking water faucet in the kitchen. I wish all RV's had one. I think this would save a lot of water for bathing, cleaning, and washing clothes (if equipped)

We just bought this one in the lighter color. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. Do you know if it is ok to sit in the dinette when the slide is not open? I saw somewhere that if you sit in the slide while closed you could break it? Loved the video, and the truthfulness of not towing with a half ton/ F150
Unlike motorized RVs towables are not built with the intention of being used when the slides are closed. As a result no mfg nor supplier tests to see if you can safely use slides when closed Which means literally nobody can tell you "yes you can do that" and MFGs don't warranty against damage caused from that kind of use since they don't guarantee it.
That is a super short 5th wheel with a great floorplan. NO tow with a 3/4 ton and be happy. And that dinette slide looks like it is on a rack/pinion mechanism meaning you can partially extend it and use?
Correct on the dinette slide. It's rack & pinion But for clarity - you can extend it partially to access things in the rv but you shouldn't occupy and use the slide when partially extended
Can you swaption out the hide a bed for theater seating? I would like both sides of the bed to be the same so either raise and do drawers (I would like). This is on the list.... Coffee maker or portable no hook ups counter top dishwasher.
So close, washer and dryer would be awesome, even if it was in the front by the hitch or the pass through. Other then that it looks good. Oh yeah, is the roof pvc? And true gellcoat would be good also.
Hi Josh, I'm seeing some 2023 models of this Rockwood line, and the Flagstaffs as well, that are Ultra Lite and Signature. In the Flagstaff line, Super Lite and Classic. The front caps are labeled one way on one, the other way on another....confusing. The factory brochures separate them that way as well, with the Signature/Classic still shown as the upper line. Is this a case of the brochure department not getting the memo on the new build change? And if so, when we see them on a dealer's lot should we now sort of assume them to actually be identical?

Rockwood beats all the others in this price category. We shopped all the 30'ish 5th wheels over the past year, and Rockwood just seemed to be the best one out there. I'll take the table as shown and a theater seat. That toilet is tight, but the headroom in the shower is great. The water heater under the awning space isn't good. My last MH had that and I didn't care for it. The RV industry needs to step away from the half ton names. Too many dealers will put people in danger just to make a sale.
I cringe at some of the towing advisory I offered in the past before I knew more about how it all worked. I shared as I was instructed but often it's a case of the blind leading the blind And I think many of us see it daily in things like owners groups
I really like this one. Checks off all the boxes in a shorter unit. One question I have, is that hitch weight number including the optional front ac unit?
So...I have a crazy idea and I want feed back! What if you took away the upper cabinets above the sofa and made it a bunk. Could be a great small 5th wheel for a family OR just a big open storage space for those that dont need the sleeping area. Great for Grandma and Grandpa to bring some grand kids too! Am I crazy?? Is the space big enough to have a bunk above the couch??

While I loved my purchase experience from cold water, MI location the TPMS was not set up. I am technology challenged and this is not easy to do. It would have been nice for it to come preset up.
This may be really dumb but I’ve been curious about this for over a year and I’ve never seen anyone address it. It’s the countertop thing. The knocking on the countertop thing. You mention we may have noticed that the kitchen countertop in this unit is solid surface. How? Then there’s also other types - foil wrapped and Corian and another I’m forgetting. How in the world can I tell? Can it be just visually? I understand Corian surfaces but are there other hard surfaces? The last 3 rigs I went in were with a salesman who admitted he didn’t have a clue, just that the rigs had the best. (He also had never heard of CCC/cargo carrying capacity so I maybe should’ve stopped right there.) I am struggling to get myself educated.
From just a video it's mostly visual. • Solid surface tends to be more shiny and reflective than the others. • "Solid Surface" is a general collection of counter types. Corian, LG, etc • Thermofoil tend to have more rounded edges, aren't quite as shiny • T-Molded has a fairly obvious piece of trim around the counter top edge Here's what I'll say: Asking questions is how we learn. Please don't feel like a bother. If you have 10 questions, then drop 10 comments and I'll do my best to answer each one (a different comment for a different question is a lot easier to track and manage btw) and I don't care what video you leave them on. If it's a keystone video and you have a jayco question _I don't care. Just ask away!_
Would be perfect if the booth dinette was a 67" theater seat, switch to tv and microwave and replace the 60" hide-a-bed with a little table and chairs or 2 person booth. Similar to the Grand Design 270bn design. The suspension on the Rockwoods is A+ and sets them apart from many other manufactures.

@@JoshtheRVNerd They're not even close to the same. The 270bn has a 78" theater seat in the slide and a breakfast nook (bn) as you enter the front door. To me this is the perfect couples living area. A coach with the GD 270bn living area and Rockwoods 2442BS or WS bathroom, bedroom and torsion suspension would be the perfect set up.

Solar only charges batteries. Nothing else really 12v fridge is battery powered so there’s a connection but solar doesn’t really do anything but battery charging
@@DailyDriver. In the case of 12v fridges it's a non-issue. Even if you didn't have a battery the charge line from the vehicle can run the fridge in transit with no solar required. Seems to be a common misunderstanding about them. They're an ideal fit for traveling.
As Charmaine said above, that cubby corner is screaming for a coffee maker. If this has a 3k lbs tramdem trailer hitch this is very doable for me (rigig tamdem trailer for my motorcycle)...
Very nice but the wife has to have a fireplace! 😮😮😮. Under 30 foot fifth wheels can be tricky as to how they set them up and this one is done pretty good! I’d also go for the theater seating! You can get those struts on Amazon for the cabinets and they are inexpensive. If you can find the 1/2 ton heavy duty tow package it will tow one of these just fine, I know from experience. Never use a standard 1/2 ton to tow something like this! Never!
If someone were to build a true half-ton towable fifth wheel they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand. But then again Cherokee had a real winner in the 255RR and they no longer make it.
Its all about pin weight…. while it is possible , to build a fiver that marginally falls within the capability of some 1/2 tons, there are always compromises that have to be made especially to the upper deck to accomplish this. No 2nd AC…no bedroom slide , often low headroom, tiny bathroom… or no bathroom on the upper deck etc… In other words, they are rare because you can actually make a much nicer 1/2 ton capable travel trailer than you can in a fifth wheel.
That's nice and all, but is it SUV towable? It'd look really nice behind Cousin Ricky's '59 El Camino, wouldn't it? Well, once he duct tapes the bumper back on.
My biggest problem with this RV and others like it as there's no place to put a kitchen wastebasket. I wouldn't want to waste basket sitting out it would be a deal breaker for us. That said has a lot of other nice features. Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan

The smaller the rig the less it'll be affected by wind
Longer wheelbase vehicles will also resist crosswinds better btw
I would rig up some sort of cargo bar system for that end counter space to hold appliances in transit

The closet slide is why the bedroom stuff doesn’t match. It has to be a symmetrical.

Goosebox is the name of a specific hitch conversion from a FW kingpin to a gooseneck ball coupler

Yeah that bed offset is due to the closest slide coming down so far. Necessary but annoying

Can you swaption out the hide a bed for theater seating? I would like both sides of the bed to be the same so either raise and do drawers (I would like). This is on the list.... Coffee maker or portable no hook ups counter top dishwasher.

Hi Josh, I'm seeing some 2023 models of this Rockwood line, and the Flagstaffs as well, that are Ultra Lite and Signature. In the Flagstaff line, Super Lite and Classic. The front caps are labeled one way on one, the other way on another....confusing. The factory brochures separate them that way as well, with the Signature/Classic still shown as the upper line. Is this a case of the brochure department not getting the memo on the new build change? And if so, when we see them on a dealer's lot should we now sort of assume them to actually be identical?
Short answer: They're two names for the literal same thing.

Rockwood beats all the others in this price category. We shopped all the 30'ish 5th wheels over the past year, and Rockwood just seemed to be the best one out there.

That toilet is tight, but the headroom in the shower is great.
The water heater under the awning space isn't good. My last MH had that and I didn't care for it.
The RV industry needs to step away from the half ton names. Too many dealers will put people in danger just to make a sale.
I cringe at some of the towing advisory I offered in the past before I knew more about how it all worked. I shared as I was instructed but often it's a case of the blind leading the blind

Hitch weight is from the mfg. usually represents a total base unit

Great for Grandma and Grandpa to bring some grand kids too! Am I crazy?? Is the space big enough to have a bunk above the couch??

While I loved my purchase experience from cold water, MI location the TPMS was not set up. I am technology challenged and this is not easy to do. It would have been nice for it to come preset up.

This may be really dumb but I’ve been curious about this for over a year and I’ve never seen anyone address it. It’s the countertop thing. The knocking on the countertop thing. You mention we may have noticed that the kitchen countertop in this unit is solid surface. How? Then there’s also other types - foil wrapped and Corian and another I’m forgetting. How in the world can I tell? Can it be just visually? I understand Corian surfaces but are there other hard surfaces? The last 3 rigs I went in were with a salesman who admitted he didn’t have a clue, just that the rigs had the best. (He also had never heard of CCC/cargo carrying capacity so I maybe should’ve stopped right there.) I am struggling to get myself educated.
From just a video it's mostly visual.
• Solid surface tends to be more shiny and reflective than the others.
• "Solid Surface" is a general collection of counter types. Corian, LG, etc
• Thermofoil tend to have more rounded edges, aren't quite as shiny
• T-Molded has a fairly obvious piece of trim around the counter top edge

Gould have built that countertop all the way out to the entry door.
Would be perfect if the booth dinette was a 67" theater seat, switch to tv and microwave and replace the 60" hide-a-bed with a little table and chairs or 2 person booth. Similar to the Grand Design 270bn design. The suspension on the Rockwoods is A+ and sets them apart from many other manufactures.
Rockwood has been making that for years. It’s the 2622RK! I lack updates footage currently though

@@BrianVanLoocke you may simply look at the 2622RK Rockwood. It's the 270BN floor plan. It's been around for years but always flies under the radar.
@@JoshtheRVNerd They're not even close to the same. The 270bn has a 78" theater seat in the slide and a breakfast nook (bn) as you enter the front door. To me this is the perfect couples living area. A coach with the GD 270bn living area and Rockwoods 2442BS or WS bathroom, bedroom and torsion suspension would be the perfect set up.
Back kitchen will be destroyed fast with the roads conditions! About talking of Lippert failed frame on fifth wheel on a video? Must of them cracked after a while…..what are the options of frame built?

Solar only charges batteries. Nothing else really
12v fridge is battery powered so there’s a connection but solar doesn’t really do anything but battery charging

@@DailyDriver. In the case of 12v fridges it's a non-issue. Even if you didn't have a battery the charge line from the vehicle can run the fridge in transit with no solar required.
Seems to be a common misunderstanding about them. They're an ideal fit for traveling.

As Charmaine said above, that cubby corner is screaming for a coffee maker. If this has a 3k lbs tramdem trailer hitch this is very doable for me (rigig tamdem trailer for my motorcycle)...

Very nice but the wife has to have a fireplace! 😮😮😮. Under 30 foot fifth wheels can be tricky as to how they set them up and this one is done pretty good! I’d also go for the theater seating! You can get those struts on Amazon for the cabinets and they are inexpensive. If you can find the 1/2 ton heavy duty tow package it will tow one of these just fine, I know from experience. Never use a standard 1/2 ton to tow something like this! Never!
Yeah it seems like Rockwood has phased out those struts all over. Kind of surprising to me
If someone were to build a true half-ton towable fifth wheel they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand. But then again Cherokee had a real winner in the 255RR and they no longer make it.
Its all about pin weight…. while it is possible , to build a fiver that marginally falls within the capability of some 1/2 tons, there are always compromises that have to be made especially to the upper deck to accomplish this. No 2nd AC…no bedroom slide , often low headroom, tiny bathroom… or no bathroom on the upper deck etc… In other words, they are rare because you can actually make a much nicer 1/2 ton capable travel trailer than you can in a fifth wheel.
There's a couple of fiberglass 5th wheels that are, but they are really smaller, under 22 feet, like the Escape 5.0.
That's nice and all, but is it SUV towable? It'd look really nice behind Cousin Ricky's '59 El Camino, wouldn't it? Well, once he duct tapes the bumper back on.

My biggest problem with this RV and others like it as there's no place to put a kitchen wastebasket. I wouldn't want to waste basket sitting out it would be a deal breaker for us.
