Shane MacGowan 1957-2023 RIP
Thank you for the music. This Christmas song is an absolute banger.
Kirsty and Shane died 23 years apart.
@@marvinthemaniac7698 Thanks for working it out for everyone
@@work8046 you're welcome
That'd be cool if Bob Dylan and Shane McGowan wrote a song together.
@AberdeenRedpath they absolutely should have done that while Shane was still alive.
The best Christmas song ever as far as im concerned its not Christmas until I hear this on the radio .... like if you agree
Agree. It's rings out Christmas 🎄.
A google of likes my friend , Merry Chirstmas, everyone
It's my favourite Christmas song, it's real life Christmas song.
Farewell to Shane MacGowan. He earned his unique place in the pantheon of great Irish writers.
So true. I hope many more people discover his poetry now.

In My Opinion This Is Truly The Best Christmas Song Of All Time. Still Sounds Brilliant In December 2021 & I Think It Will Still Be Brilliant Forever More.
Agreed.
Totally agree 👍👍
I'm torn between this and greg Lake but today the pogues are edging it 🥇💓🦊
Very true
It wasn’t wrote to be a Christmas song it’s the story of a drunk
I just turned 80. Not much interested in life. Just heard this song for the first time. When I hear it my throat chokes, heart swells along with the emotions. This song may be my only reason for living. 2022. Thanks Shane ... Kirsty - I hope one day to meet everybody's darling. Please RIP. (Australia)

Best comment EVER!!!
Its not xmas without shane and kirsty. Rip you beautiful people, we will think of you and send you love every year
I am a 63-year-old woman. Last year, in the run-up to Christmas, I heard Fairytale of New York for the first time. I didn't know The Pogues until then and thought it was a current song. I cried every time it came on the radio. I researched the group and the singer and was totally shocked that he had died on 30 November 2024 and that the band was by no means new on the market. I can't explain why this man touches me so much. My favourites are now Fairytale of New York, In the summer in Siam and Dirty Old Town. I hear he was a very likeable person. I saw an interview with Kiefer Sutherland. It's so sad that he didn't look after himself well enough. Such a great musician. RIP Shane and Kirsty

I think the "you took my dreams from me.
I kept them with me babe and put them with my own"
Is one of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard.
"I could have been someone"..."well so could anyone"....one of the most poignant.
My life with my ex husband the bastard, exactly..... He took my dreams from me, and a curse on the scumbag!

Don't forget about Madam Kirsty.
“I could’ve been someone, well so could anyone, you took my dreams from me, when I first found you. - I kept them with me babe.
I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone
I've built my dreams around you”
Truly one of the best but if lyricism I’ve ever heard. Really gets you down deep. As a man, as a husband, this line is the most meaningful of all and has me in tears every time.
RIP Shane. You’re a legend forever my friend
Amen to that😢
Moves you to tears
Hope my boyfriend at the time 1979 sadly he passed in his 30,s can now get to meet him RIP Shane and kirsty ... love you to infinity Terry ❤ fran
That’s how real love is. I sometimes wonder how men communicate with women in the younger generation because my generation(Genx) the men did some wonderful true love songs. You don’t really see it so much in music now. I could be wrong but I think men were more romantic back in the day.
@@jujutrini8412they said the same things about your generation and I’m sure generations before that.
I think you’re right in the sense that the most popular music isn’t as romantic as it once was. There’s still great songs out there though and it doesn’t take much digging. It’s just not the stuff you hear all over the radio or TikTok I guess.
It’s not just one of the best Christmas songs of all time, it’s one of the very best songs of all time.
Indeed
I totally agree and so sad.
not one of the best but it's the best christmas song
or one of the best songs ever.

Both reunited to sing in the heavens above ... The best Christmas song ever
"So happy Xmas, I love you baby. I can see a better time, when all our dreams come true." Hits so hard.
RIP Kirsty and Shane. You both made our lives prettier, one way or the other. I raise my Guinness pint to you.😢
Does this song bring anyone else to tears? 😪

This better make number 1 this year. It so deserves it. Should be number 1 every Christmas but this year especially. RIP Shane and Kirsty. Thank you for the best Christmas song ever ❤
I'm not a big fan of Christmas songs generally - but this one is tops, as you say, every year!
I am thoroughly convinced that this may be one of the best christmas songs ever
Without a dout
absolutely with you there
100%
It is at least one of the most honest Christmas carols, not a cheap standard song (bells, snow and all that gossip that everyone loves everyone).
May????.
I went to school with Kristy and I meet shane in the bar in new York and this is mine and my wife favourite Christmas song together
You will never be forgotten by my generation Shane and Kirsty on Christmas Day 25/12/23
Shane was actually born on Xmas day in 1957.
There are beautiful Christmas songs. There are wonderful Christmas songs. There are iconic Christmas songs and there is Fairytale of New York. R.I.P. Kirsty and Shane
My tears declare you're absolutely right, Joe. No one ever struck heart, soul via song like the career Shane, with The Pogues, fashioned, a chemistry that will always stand aloft and alone in its depth and sheer nobility.
No more words
So true and there is - The fairy Tales of New York. My mother would drank whiskey on Christmas Eve and dance to this song all night. I still remember her moves ❤😢
Another Jewel...🔔😌
It's December 2021, let's see how many legends are listening to this classic!
Nothing will ever top this magical Christmas song. RIP Kirsty, taken far too soon. XXX
Every mother thinks that they would put their own body in front of a speeding truck to save their child. But Kirsty actually did that. Love you girl. Bravest mother ever.
I read the wiki page after this comment, R.I.P Kirsty
It was a speeding boat actually. Driven by some rich idiot in a restricted speed area from the sound of it who paid someone to take the blame. Had to pay less than 100 to escape jail and less than 2k to her family to say sorry. No justice and such heartbreak for her family
Strong Mama.
A boat right?
Wait a truck? I thought it was a boat
Ain’t no Christmas without this wonderful song …..
Thank you for creating the best Christmas song in the world
RIP Kirsty and Shane
What a masterpiece. The best Christmas song ever. Sung with emotion and realism x
there wasnt much emotion considering he didnt know where he was for half of it
It’s NOT a Xmas song, it just came out then,,
Sure the song is set on Christmas Eve
You taking the piss? The guy sounds drunk at the beginning
The miming is so so bad in this video. It’s literally the original played back and they are pretending to sing it. It’s awful.

I'm someone who has actually woken up in the drunk tank.. In Reno, Nevada on Christmas day 1978. Of course I was a boy of 17 who lied and said I was 18, so I didn't go to the kiddie jail but the real deal. This song is dear to my heart and always has been! They kicked me out when I sobered up. RIP Shane and Kristy, thanks for the memories.
Hope you're well. Merry Christmas

@@rubydawn1 I was in there with a bunch of old drunk guys. The walls were padded and on the ceiling there was a huge pink elephant!@ I'm glad I only made it there that one time, but kids will be kids, and we all had a good time.
