Sir which is best 17-70 tamron vs sony 18-105. Video all-rounder. Or any other lens? Suggest
I’d say the Tamron 17-70 :)
Here’s my review of that ua-cam.com/video/Lp71c24Gd7c/v-deo.html
Wtf is wrong with youtube algorithm man, this guy produces marvelous videos. This kind of stuff should be on top when searched for .
Hey, man! Just saw this now.
Wanna say thank you very much. I’m hopeful for that. But in the meantime, these words will forever mean a lot.
Subscribed since 500!
Ey, Sairo! Thank you so much 🔥📦💯
I bought the Tamron with high hopes of replacing my 18-105 and a couple of the Sigma primes. After a week with it I found myself unsatisfied. The 18-105 with its internal focus and power zoom is much better for gimbal work. That point I could get past. What really ruined it for me was picture clarity. Pictures taken during a golden hour photo shoot were consistently soft at every focal length. Night and day difference compared to the Sigmas. I’m hoping I just got a bad unit. I want to minimize my kit and the Tamron is so versatile! I may try again later down the road.
Hi, Caleb.
Were you able to consult the store you bought it from? Coz there was a same concern before about the image sharpness and he had it replaced. Turned out that that particular unit should have not released.
You might want to double check. As far as my experience with this lens is concern, it’s tack sharp. Not so at higher focal lenghts.
I have seen a few of your videos and I have to commend you on a job well done. Informative, entertaining, and practical without being overly technical.
Regarding the focal length of the Sony 18-105mm f4 compared to the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 with VC -- while the Sony 18-105 obviously has a longer reach compared to the Tamron 17-70mm, the Sony has two clear disadvantages:
- "softness" in some use case scenarios
- minimum focus distance
Since the a6000 series camera bodies have Clear Image Zoom, would you say using this feature can offset the shorter reach of the Tamron 17-70 mm lens? Otherwise, in almost all respects, (outside of build quality, weight, and gimbal-friendliness (lens doesn't protrude when zooming)), the Tamron appears to be the clear winner.
Congratulations in reaching the 1K subscriber mark!
Thanks, Rom! Appreciate that. 🔥
Wow, I actually said the same things in my other video - I directly compare the two (ua-cam.com/video/Lp71c24Gd7c/v-deo.html). Super agree with you. 👌🏽
@@DanboxingPH You know what they say about great minds... 😀
nice review bro! been looking for a pinoy owning this lens! hope I can try this out sa a6400 soon!
Hey, man. Thanks so much! A must have lens for aps-c in my opinion. Haha
Tara hang out!
Tara tara!! Tiga saan ka, bro?
@@DanboxingPH @Danboxing PH taga cavite ako broo ikaw?? PM!! ano fb mo?
I watched the video 2x Bro, and I agree with the other comments that the intro is too long. Knowing you, Im sure that you will do something to improve that. I love the use of language, hindi sya ganoon ka lalim at ganoon ka technical for us viewers to google the meaning. I suggest na mag hire ka ng hmua para sa pawis and oil sa face. Overall ganda ng content.happy 1k subs😊
Salamat, brother!!! Yeah, improve natin yan :)
HMUA? Wag muna siguro. Punas punas nalang muna HAHAHA
Salamat salamat!!! 🔥
How would you compare this vs. the Sony 16-55 2.8? Better or worse? The $600 price difference definitely makes me think twice but is the value in the Sony??
Can’t speak much since I haven’t tried the Sony 16-55. But I’d always pick this for two main reasons:
1. Additional focal range
2. In-lens stabilization
Hi Dan..nice video i want to ask is the aperutr is constant at f2.8 when we zoom to 70mm?TQ
Thanks, man!
Yup! Constant 2.8 at all focal lengths. Even at 70mm.
hahaha aabangan ko na lagi yung bloopers sa last scenes! kunti nalang 1k na! advance congrats Dan!
HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Salamat, bro!!! 🔥
@awid hahahaha
brother what picture profile/colour settings did you use haha? need to know! loving the videos.
Hello, bro! SLOG2!
Quality has really improved since the last video of yours I watched. Excellent work! Thanks for the review.
Hey, man! Glad to hear this. Thank you very much :)
If i want to buy another lens with this lens. What do you advise me?
Sigma 16 or Viltrox 13
Did you have to apply lens correction to fix the chromatic abberation at post?
So far, I did it once. Not really a problem in my opinion. Most of the time, the vignetting is what I fix in post.
@@DanboxingPH ah i see!
Hi man.. subscribed😜
Want to know how Tamron VC works for vedios? Better than oss 18-105?
Tamron 17-70mm is easy to use gimbal?
Hey, man. Thank you for subscribing!!! Appreciate that :)
About the VC, I mentioned in my first video (ua-cam.com/video/eBJ8rep8TVY/v-deo.html) that it’s as good as the OSS of the 18-105. In my opinion. Like it’s very very reliable so far.
As for the compatibility with gimbals, the 18-105 for sure is the better option since it doesn’t extend even when zooming in. But this, Tamron lens, isn’t bad at all. Just take note of that.
Thank you 👍🏻
I am so so happy for you that you hit the 1k so fast. Absolutely well earned :)
I found the intro here a bit long with the b roll shots... And i think the lens is not too expensive, considering what it is ☺️ still love the lens
I love the takeouts haha keep it up 👍😂
Sam!!! Thank you for being part of this journey 💯
About the intro, apologies. That might be the result of over excitement HAHAHA
Agree, I still believe it’s worth the price. Super useful for what it is 💯
Thank youuuu 💯👌🏽😂
@@DanboxingPH i hope the feedback was ok. The intro didn't annoy me, it was just a bit too long because I wanted to know about the lens hahahah
And i also whish it would be 105.. if you ever find a lens that works as an addition with more Tele, i would love for you to let me know :)
Yeah!!! Feedbacks are so welcomed! I even thank you for that 😊 will consider that in my next videos 👌🏽
Right? Sure! Will let you know 😊
@@DanboxingPH tamron has the 70-105 i think. It's also new but it's a fullframe lens... And i am not sure if it's the perfect fit.. and the 55-210 from sony is old and cheap but not too sharp and not too good in low light.. come on brands... We need more apsc lenses!!!!
Yeah! This is the only Tamron lens for APSC cameras :((
Hahahaha agree! Come on, brands!!!!! 😂
Thanks for the review update. Still looking at this as an update to my 18-105. Just trying to work out how much extra I would get from it to make it worth its value. All the best from UK.
Woah! You can’t go wrong with this lens, man! Go for it 🔥
Bro i am still confused in Tamron 17-70 or sony 18-105 f4 and sigma 30 do you help me in this
I’d say go for Tamron 17-70 and one from the Sigma Trio :)
Excellent videos with that practical approach!!!! That is we need!!
Thank you so much!!! Hope it helps :)
Do you think Tamron 17-70 f2.8 is a major upgrade to my 18-105 f4 for still photography with a6400?
YES!
Confused with the 2 also. Need for travel:(
Hey,
Just a tip, when you are mounting a mic on a stand, it's a lot easier to hold the mic still and rotating the boom instead (first loosening its screw, obviously). It's not just faster, but you can also immediately adjust its angle as needed, which you can't really do if you are rotating the mic.
Cheers
Woah!! Thanks for this, David. 🔥
Good video! Thank God we recently bought this lens instead of the Sony 18-105mm. Thank you bro, God bless you! 👍🏻🔥😊
Enjoy your new lens! Thank you!
Just discovered your channel! Tanong lang pre, recording your audio and video thru the ipad?
Recording my audio using external mic connected directly to my camera.
Recording my video using a mirrorless camera.
Editing and mixing everything using my iPad.
Torn if I should get this for my a6000 as an all around go to. I’ll be doing photos and video.
Go for it. You’ll never go wrong with this lens!
I’ve watch3d several videos on this lens and you covered some points not brought up by others. Thanks
Good to hear! Thank you!
And also about the VC, do you think it helps a lot in videos? Or is it just doing a minimum job
Bro, it helps big time!!! Really helpful. Like I said in the video, I don’t do handheld vlogging, but with this, I do now hahahaha
@@DanboxingPH thank you thank you!!🙏
I forgot to share, I already made a video sharing how this lens’ VC performs - ua-cam.com/video/p3v5lak1laU/v-deo.html
Another excellent review! Love it!!
Hey, man! Thank you very much 🔥
Hey, thanks for this helpful review !👍
I wonder - what do you think of the Sigma 18-50 ?
Cause that would be 300€ cheaper here in my country, is lighter but has no image stabilization. 🤔
Thank you!
I haven’t tried the Sigma but yes, having any form of stablization is an advantage. Especially if the camera body doesn’t have IBIS.
hard to find this one, any idea where to get this lens?
Where do you live?
C'mon, Dan... I'm THIS close to buying this lens and if I do I'm contacting Tamron Philippines directly to tell them to give you some commission hahaha
Ey!!!! Thank you for this, Marissa!!! This is super encouraging!!! I wish I wish hahaha 🔥💯🔥💯🔥
Nice video! What do you think about Zeiss 16 35 vs this tamron? I have already 70 350 Sony...
Both are great lenses given then both have in-lens stabilization as well. I just find the 17-70 focal range more generous 😊
You helped me decide to get the RIGHT lens, then I watched your videos ever since. Today I subscribed (sorry it took that long hahaha) you deserved it!
Wow! This is so nice! Glad I was able to help you decide. :)
Haha no worries! Thank you so much!
Can you pull focus with this lens, is the manual focus linear?
Hey, man. Nope! In that situation, the Sony 16-50 is the better option.
Just wanna ask sir. Is it necessary to recalibrate ur gimbal when changing the focal length on ur tamron?
Hello! Yes yes because it extends when zooming in.
@@DanboxingPH oh, i see. Thank for ur reply sir, it helps a lot
If i have the tamron 17-70mm f2.8, should i get the sigma 30 f1.4?
Hey Daxter. That would be a great combo for sure. Any of the Sigma Trio to be honest. It’s good to have one for extreme low lights situations. Me personally, I’m looking at Sigma 56mm to pair with my Tamron 17-70.
You might want to check out my other video, Tamron 17-70 VS Sigma Trio. Let me know your thoughts:

Does your lens also have a pretty loud rattle?
Hello, I’ve heard this issue before. Good thing I never experienced it.
@@DanboxingPH so there is no Noise when you turn the lens around or shake it a bit?
Totally none.
Let's goooooo 1K subb💯💯 amazing review dude. How bad do you think the softeness between 50-70mm is? (10 being the sharpest "sharp like sigma 16mm" , 1 being super soft)
Thanks, man!!! 🔥🔥🔥
For the sharpness, I’d say it’s around 6 or 7. It isn’t that bad. But had to mention it to manage expectations :)
@@DanboxingPH thank you for your feedback! Keep making dope vids 🤙🔥💯
For sure, man!!! Thank you for the support 👌🏽
Recently I started watching your videos and already subscribed... Great content...
Thank you so much :)
does focal length can be lock?
Nope!
Hii dan I'm planning to get a sony a6400 what should be my 1st lens according to you "I'm planning for 16mm1.4 please suggest it will be really helpful for me, should I get 17-70 " I'm planning to make travel films "
Hey, man. I suggest you go for the lens with stabilization as the A6400 doesn’t have any form of stabilization.
That being said, between the Sigma 16 and the Tamron 17-70, if you don’t have a gimbal, I highly suggest the Tamron 17-70. But if you have a gimbal, the Sigma 16 is equally very good plus it’s cheaper.
In addition, you might want to consider the Sony 35mm - ua-cam.com/video/A7vUxYmAcCA/v-deo.html
Is this Lens good for videography?
Super! :) good focal range and with stabilization.
Thank you :)
Im a wedding photographer/videographer and sony a6400 with sigma 16mm stays as my 2nd camera. I want to buy 56mm but do you think tamron 17-70 will be a good replacement for both?
Oh man, this one is tough. :(
I personally love the 56mm from Sigma hahaha
But in my opinion, if you have a gimbal, keep the Sigmas. Otherwise, go for a lens with stabilization, Tamron’s VC is fantastic 😊
Sigma 56mm f1.4 is the beast... if u have 2 boddies of apsc camera.. i think prime lens give u sharper image.
But if i were u..having 1 camera only.. i think Tamron 17-70 is all i need.
some reviews say that the vc is zittery ? is it true
Not really for me :) you might want to see for yourself. I made a video of using the lens handheld entirely - ua-cam.com/video/p3v5lak1laU/v-deo.html
Good review. I need a lens for outdoor shooting always on a gimbal. From your review, it appears the Sony lens might be the better choice. Great comparison ... Thanks
Just subscribed, Dan, go on that way with your videos like thrilla from Manila! I‘m gonna get the tamron After your recommandation. Best wishes from Berlin, Germany, amigo 😎📷
Hello, Amigo!
Thank you for watching, for subscribing and for trusting my review 🔥

Saan po makakabili nito? Salamat po
Check out Tamron PH on Instagram
natakot namn ako sa 3 seconds...ayon na sub na
Haha salamat, brooo!
I'm thinkimg this is a better buy than the 18-105, although.... I saw the 18-105, BRAND NEW, for $499 on EBay, and so.. Is f2.8 worth the difference of approx $300? Probably. I think yes... Although... OSS... There's that, too... Oh well... First world problems. ;)
17-70 + a6700 i dont like the result in low light
Why?
Dapat eto din bibilhin kong lens eh. Kaso baka eto na ipakain sa akin ng asawa ko hahaha. Kaya I went for 18-105. Siguro by next year . Sana makabili.. Oh BTW congrats to your 900 subs malapit na ma monetize channel mo.
I see! Hindi nga kasi siya mura noh? Hahaha
Ah wow, super not bad, bro. I came from 18-105 as well. Did a lot with that lens too. Nahirapan nalang ako sa low light kaya I upgraded. But the focal range of that lens is something to treasure hahaha
Yes, man! Thank you. 🔥🔥🔥
Should I get the 18-105 muna? Since I’m budgeted. Found a 21k in marketplace. But confused ako if I should go straight to Tamron
Medjo mahaba ang intro hehe. Ganda ng quality ng vid! Mgnda rin colors. Pero sigma 16mm 1.4 or this?
Na excite! Napahaba hahahaha
Thank you thank you!
THIS all day :) but I might consider buying the Sigma 16 if my camera has IBIS.
Thanks for this review 😃 If you could only have one lens then this probably is the one ❤️
Thanks, man! Oh yeah, I mentioned that in my first review of this lens. Hahaha
@@DanboxingPH Do you think the sharpness of this lens would affect the image quality? Planning to buy one and pair it with an a6400. Thanks and btw Great Content and More Videos to come!
Not at all. In opinion, the softness at 70mm is tolerable 😊
Thank you very much! 🔥

Hi, already have this lens which replaced my 18-105 and very happy with it.
