F4 and F2.8 makes them very different beasts. Sony is great for outdoor walk-around but anything low light and more DOF you are going to want the Tamron
Great video! Super helpful. I currently have the Sony 18-105, and while it has performed well for me, I just want some more light and bokeh. This video has convinced me that the Tamron is worth the buy!
I like the saying, you get what you pay for. I've had the Sony 18-105 for years, and would replace it with the Tamron but, I already have the Tamron 28-75, and may money would be better served buying the 17-28. I do have a FF camera too hence why I have the 28-75. I was just talking to someone today and recommended him to buy the Tamron 17-70.
Definitely getting both. Since im new ish to Sony, I'd get the Sony18-105 f4 first just to start to have better glass in this range then later if I have the budget the Tamron 17-70 f2.8. Nice that Tamron made the range 17-70mm since they already have the 70-180mm f2.8.
Hi sir can i ask which lens is much better for Product Reviews? As well as talking heads? I am really keen on getting the 18-105 due to its range and OSS capability for broll
Good comparison! I have the 18-105 but definitely considering the 17-70. Does the picture quality of the Tamron blow away the Sony? If it’s close, was thinking to hang on to the 18-105 for a bit and get the Sigma 56mm for the sharp bokehliciousness
In my opinion, YES. The image quality the Tamron produces is way better than the 18-105. Especially in term of the image sharpness. Thanks for watching :)
@@DanboxingPH does that apply to video as well, or just stills? I've heard that video is more forgiving when it comes to sharpness in general. Do you think you get a sharper video image?
Nice and entertaining comparison. Way to go 👌😉 I have two primes from Sigma for my A6400. 16 & 56. Right now my top options are Tamron 17-70 or Sony 35 1.8. If anyone has some experience with these lenses, that would be a great help.

Having a variable zoom was great for vacation travel and I never swapped lenses. The 35mm is also a great lens that takes incredible shots but you have to zoom with your feet. Hard choice but if I had to choose one, the Tamron is more versatile.

Hi Dan, nice video as always. Need a bit of advice from you about these two lenses. I'm looking to upgrade from my Zeiss 16-70mm f4 since its sharpness is absolute dogs$#!t especially in larger focal lengths. Currently stuck between these two and the Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6mm. Thank you, buddy! I’d go for the Tamron 17-70. Sharper, faster and larger aperture. Plus it has nice colors too. As least for me. It’s jus that, it’s the most expensive of the three.

For hand-held videos, Is the image stabilization on the Tamron smoother than the Sony when using an unstabilized camera like the Sony a6100 ?
For some reason, I find it fairly similar. Nothing better, nothing worse.
